Derrick Henry Note
Derrick Henry photo 7. Derrick Henry RB - BAL (vs . LV)
Henry finished Week 1 with a disappointing 13 carries and 46 rushing yards. His touchdown saved his fantasy day, but his 46% snap rate and lack of pass-game involvement were concerning. Henry only played 33.3% of the passing down snaps as Justice Hill gobbled up all the passing game work. Unless this changes, Henry will be an extremely game script-dependent back for 2024. Henry only forced missed tackles on 8% of his rushing attempts with 1.77 yards after contact per attempt in Week 1. Neither of these numbers are fantastic by any stretch of the imagination, but let's keep it real. It was one game, so don't hit the panic button just yet. The Ravens are heavy favorites this week, so Henry should get more work in Week 2. If the Raiders are as bad as their Week 1 showing as a run defense, they could be in trouble this year. Las Vegas allowed 176 rushing yards (fourth-most) while also giving up the ninth-highest explosive run rate and the 13th-highest yards after contact per attempt. This looks like a good venue for Baltimore to get this offensive line and Henry going.

Jordan Mason Note
Jordan Mason photo 11. Jordan Mason RB - SF (at MIN)
Mason crushed the Jets and every expectation anyone should have had for his first starting performance. Mason finished with an 81% snap rate, 29 touches, and 152 total yards as the RB5 for the week. Among 34 qualifying backs, Mason ranks 10th in missed tackles forced per attempt and 11th in yards after contact per attempt. In Week 1, Minnesota was again a brutal rushing matchup, not allowing an explosive run with only a 5% missed tackle rate and 2.19 yards after contact per attempt. These numbers look eerily similar to last season when Minnesota surrendered the lowest explosive run rate and the eighth-lowest yards after contact per attempt and rushing yards per game. Mason has a tough hill to climb, but he can overcome it with volume, talent, and one of the best offensive minds in the NFL.

Jahmyr Gibbs Note
Jahmyr Gibbs photo 13. Jahmyr Gibbs RB - DET (vs . TB)
James Conner Note
James Conner photo 14. James Conner RB - ARI (vs . LAR)
Conner finished Week 1 as the RB8 in fantasy with a 67% snap rate, 19 touches, and 83 total yards. His efficiency on the ground was concerning as he ranked 20th in missed tackles forced per attempt and 31st in yards after contact per attempt among 34 qualifying backs. I'm willing to explain this away as small sample variance, as Conner was one of the most efficient running backs in the NFL last year on a per-touch basis. It was good to see that his offensive line got a decent push up front, ranking seventh-best in yards before contact per attempt. The Rams defensive line got pushed around last week by the Lions, allowing the third-highest yards before contact per attempt. If the Cards line is for real they could open up holes again this week for Conner. The Rams also had the second-lowest stuff rate and the ninth-highest missed tackle rate last week. Conner is an RB1/2 again this week.

James Cook Note
James Cook photo 15. James Cook RB - BUF (at MIA)
Cook was the Bills' workhorse in Week 1, playing 61% of the snaps with 22 touches and 93 total yards. Sadly, he didn't score in Week 1, but his red zone usage was slightly encouraging. Yes, he only accounted for 33% of this red zone touch usage in this offense, but he clearly led the running back room with three opportunities (Ray Davis and Ty Johnson each one). Cook also received the only carry inside the five-yard line while he split the inside the ten-yard line work with Allen (two rushing attempts for each). Cook also dominated the red zone snaps for the backs with 52.9%. Among 34 qualifying backs, Cook ranked 15th in explosive run rate and 11th in missed tackles forced per attempt in Week 1. Miami's Week 1 showing as a run defense gives Cook hope. Last week, the Dolphins allowed the eighth-highest explosive run rate and the 11th-highest missed tackle rate. This stands opposed to their 2023 ranks, where they were stifling to rushing attacks, holding teams to bottom five metrics in explosive run rate, missed tackles, and yards after contact per attempt. Also worth noting is that in Week 1, 58% of Cook's runs were with zone plays, and last year, Miami allowed the 11th-highest success rate to zone runs.

De'Von Achane Note
De'Von Achane photo 16. De'Von Achane RB - MIA (vs . BUF)
Achane led the way for the running back room, playing 52% of the snaps with 17 touches and 100 total yards. Achane led the Dolphins backfield duo in rushing attempts, snaps, targets, routes, and red zone touches. This was exactly the type of usage you wanted to see if you drafted Achane this season. His 18.9% target share sent a tingling feeling throughout my entire body as Achane rolled up most of his yards through the air (76). Achane should find more running room in Week 2. Buffalo allowed the third-highest explosive run rate in Week 1. Last year, their run defense was the weak link of their defense, giving up the seventh-highest explosive run rate, the fourth-highest yards after contact per attempt, and the 12th-highest yards per carry to gap runs (Week 1 Achane 60% gap). Buffalo also allowed the 11th-most receptions and the fifth-highest yards per reception to backs last season, so Achane should be able to take advantage through the air as well if he is active. Achane is dealing with an ankle issue and has been listed as questionable/game-time decision. If you have Achane, you should have already picked up Jeff Wilson or Jaylen Wright to cover yourself for the possibility that he is out.

Justin Jefferson Note
Justin Jefferson photo 17. Justin Jefferson WR - MIN (vs . SF)
Josh Jacobs Note
Josh Jacobs photo 18. Josh Jacobs RB - GB (vs . IND)
Jacobs finished Week 1 as the RB25 in fantasy points per game, playing 73% of the snaps with 18 touches and 104 total yards. It's only one game, but Jacobs' tackle-breaking juice looks to have returned for the 2024 season. Among 34 qualifying backs, Jacobs ranks eighth in missed tackles forced per attempt and fifth in yards after contact per attempt. While Malik Willis could hurt the overall efficiency of the offense, this could be a week for Green Bay to ride Jacobs and lean on their offensive line. Last week, Indy was steamrolled up front by Houston's offensive line, finishing with the third-lowest stuff rate and the fourth-highest yards before contact per attempt. They still held Joe Mixon to the ninth-lowest explosive run rate, but Houston played bully ball on the ground. Green Bay could do the same. Last week, their offensive line was second in yards before contact per attempt and ranked 11th in run-blocking grade. Expect Green Bay to lean on Jacobs this week.

Amon-Ra St. Brown Note
Amon-Ra St. Brown photo 19. Amon-Ra St. Brown WR - DET (vs . TB)
Alvin Kamara Note
Alvin Kamara photo 20. Alvin Kamara RB - NO (at DAL)
Kamara walked away from Week 1 with a wonderful stat line as the RB6 for the week. He played 52% of the snaps (influenced by the blowout) with 20 touches and 110 total yards. While all of that is amazing, it could be false window dressing. Kamara's per-touch efficiency was frightening, with only a 7% missed tackles per attempt rate and 1.93 yards after contact per attempt. Kamara's tackle-breaking metrics were horrendous last year as well, so this isn't just me freaking out over a one-game sample. Kamara could struggle to find room to operate this week against a Dallas run defense that allowed the 13th-lowest explosive run rate; the second-lowest missed tackles per attempt, and the 10th-lowest yards after contact per attempt last year.

Rhamondre Stevenson Note
Rhamondre Stevenson photo 21. Rhamondre Stevenson RB - NE (vs . SEA)
MONDRE bullied the Bengals run defense in Week 1 to the tune of 28 touches, 126 total yards, and an RB7 finish. He played 78% of the snaps while putting up a monster tackle-breaking performance. Among 34 qualifying backs, he ranked first in missed tackles forced per attempt, third in yards after contact per attempt, and ninth in explosive run rate. The jury is still out regarding the skill of the Seattle run defense for 2024. They were a bottom-five unit last year, but in Week 1, they had the fourth-highest stuff rate and the ninth-lowest yards after contact per attempt allowed while sitting at 16th in missed tackles per attempt. This was also against a putrid Denver passing attack, but the New England passing attack isn't much better, so Seattle could load the box. The biggest concern for Stevenson is that his offensive line didn't do him any favors last week, with the third-lowest yards before contact per attempt generated. Stevenson will have to do it all himself again this week in a tougher matchup.

Travis Etienne Jr. Note
Travis Etienne Jr. photo 22. Travis Etienne Jr. RB - JAC (vs . CLE)
Etienne had a ho-hum start to the 2024 season, playing 70% of the snaps with 14 touches and 59 total yards as the RB30 for the week. His tackle-breaking metrics are something to note but not get overly concerned about after only one game. Among 34 qualifying backs, he ranks 16th in missed tackles forced per attempt and 28th in yards after contact per attempt. The Browns were a low-key mediocre run defense last year, but after one week of football, they look to have improved. Again, it is only a one-game sample, but they allowed the 12th-lowest missed tackle rate, zero explosive runs, and the 10th-lowest yards after contact per attempt. Etienne will need all the help he can get from his offensive line that opened the season, ranking 12th in yards before contact per attempt.

David Montgomery Note
David Montgomery photo 23. David Montgomery RB - DET (vs . TB)
Montgomery continued the steady RB2 production that we have come to love from him during his time in Detroit. He was the RB17 while playing 47% of the snaps and rolling up 18 touches and 93 total yards. Predictably, he played 60% of the rushing play snaps in Week 1, but what's also interesting is that he only had a 40% snap rate in the red zone as Gibbs took the lead. Among 34 qualifying backs, Montgomery ranked sixth in missed tackles forced per attempt and 17th in yards after contact per attempt. Tampa Bay still looks like a team in 2024 that you can't run on. In Week 1, they allowed the ninth-lowest missed tackle rate and the third-lowest yard after contact per attempt. Last year, they gave up the seventh-lowest yards after contact per attempt, the eighth-lowest explosive run rate and rushing touchdown rate, and the fifth-lowest missed tackle rate. Montgomery needs a touchdown to pay off in fantasy this week likely.

Mike Evans Note
Mike Evans photo 24. Mike Evans WR - TB (at DET)
Deebo Samuel Sr. Note
Deebo Samuel Sr. photo 25. Deebo Samuel Sr. WR - SF (at MIN)
Samuel led the way in Week 1 with a 31% target share, a 29.5% air-yard share, 2.08 YPRR, and a 31.8% first-read share as the WR12 for the week. He should do so again in Week 2 against Minnesota's two-high defense. In Week 1, Minny utilized two high on a crazy 83.7% of their coverage snaps to lead the NFL. Last year, against two high defenses, Samuel was a target hog with a 26.3% target share, a 21.5% air-yard share, 3.23 YPRR, and a 36% first-read share. Last year, among 104 qualifying receivers, Samuel ranked 35th in separation against two high. Samuel will run about 50% of his routes against Stephon Gilmore (2023: 56.8% catch rate and 90.4 passer rating) and Shaquill Griffin (2023: 63.8% catch rate and 82.5 passer rating).

Rachaad White Note
Rachaad White photo 26. Rachaad White RB - TB (at DET)
Different season, but the same result. White was the clear workhorse for Tampa Bay, as he was awesome in the passing game and forgettable as a rusher. He swallowed up a 20% target share while producing 3.75 YPRR with 75 receiving yards. He finished with a 70% snap rate, 21 touches, and 106 total yards as the RB16 in fantasy. Among 34 qualifying backs, he was 18th in missed tackles forced per attempt (13%) and 30th in yards after contact per attempt. White had the fourth-highest stuff rate among sampled backs. He'll have to do most of his damage through the air again in Week 2. The Lions fielded a stellar run defense in Week 1 which continued a trend they started last year. They allowed zero explosive runs or missed tackles, with only 1.70 yards after contact per attempt. Last year, Detroit allowed the second-lowest explosive run rate and yards after contact per attempt and the second-fewest rushing yards per game. White will be a volume play.

J.K. Dobbins Note
J.K. Dobbins photo 27. J.K. Dobbins RB - LAC (at CAR)
Dobbins stepped in and became the immediate workhorse for the Bolts. In Week 1, he played 58% of the snaps with 13 touches and 139 total yards. He ran 17 routes versus Gus Edwards' six routes. Dobbins also crushed in efficiency metrics. Among 34 qualifying backs in Week 1, he was fifth in missed tackles forced per attempt and seventh in yards after contact per attempt. I was so skeptical that Dobbins could return from the myriad of injuries that have crushed him over the last few years, but he made a huge step toward doing so in Week 1. Shout out to Andrew Erickson, who screamed at people all offseason to draft Dobbins. After one game, he looks incredibly right about this call. Dobbins should steamroll a Panthers run defense that was crushed in Week 1 by the aging Alvin Kamara. In Week 1, Carolina had the eighth-lowest stuff rate while giving up the third-most rushing yards, the seventh-highest yards after contact per attempt, and the 13th-highest yards before contact per attempt.

Ja'Marr Chase Note
Ja'Marr Chase photo 28. Ja'Marr Chase WR - CIN (at KC)
Brian Robinson Jr. Note
Brian Robinson Jr. photo 29. Brian Robinson Jr. RB - WAS (vs . NYG)
Robinson Jr. finished last week as the RB14 in fantasy points per game, playing 56% of the snaps with 15 touches and 89 total yards. His tackle-breaking metrics weren't great, but it's a one-game sample, so I'll wipe it away because he was extremely good last year in a larger sample. Among 34 qualifying backs, he was 24th in missed tackles forced per attempt and yards after contact per attempt. His offensive line didn't do him any favors either, ranking 20th in yards before contact per attempt. Robinson could easily be a strong RB2 with borderline RB1 numbers this week against a Giants' run defense that allowed the seventh-highest explosive run rate, the fourth-highest missed tackle rate, and the sixth-highest yards after contact per attempt in Week 1.
Najee Harris Note
Najee Harris photo 30. Najee Harris RB - PIT (at DEN)
Harris was the RB35 in fantasy Week 1 as he played 56% of the snaps, logging 21 touches and 79 total yards. Among 34 qualifying backs, he was 16th in explosive run rate and 12th in missed tackles forced per attempt. Harris has more of the backfield work this season, at least through one game, than he did last year. He had a 70% snap rate on rushing plays and a 41% snap rate on passing downs (Warren 48%). When the Steelers entered the red zone, Harris had a 64% snap rate, and when they were inside the 10-yard line, that snap share still stood at 60%. Harris should post RB2 numbers (at least) this week against a Denver run defense that allowed the second-highest explosive run rate, the 13th-highest missed tackle rate, and the 12th-highest yards after contact per attempt in Week 1.

Garrett Wilson Note
Garrett Wilson photo 31. Garrett Wilson WR - NYJ (at TEN)
Aaron Jones Note
Aaron Jones photo 32. Aaron Jones RB - MIN (vs . SF)
Jones looked in vintage form in Week 1 as the RB9 for the week. He played 55% of the snaps for Minnesota with 16 touches and 109 total yards. Among 34 qualifying running backs, he was second in explosive run rate, missed tackles forced per attempt, and yards after contact per attempt. If he can stay healthy all year, Jones could be one of the best values of draft season. Jones quietly has a solid matchup this week against the 49ers. In Week 1, they allowed the 14th-highest explosive run rate and the fifth-highest missed tackles per attempt and yards after contact per attempt. This lines up well with last season when San Francisco gave up the 11th-highest explosive run rate and the seventh-highest yards after contact per attempt.

Jerome Ford Note
Jerome Ford photo 33. Jerome Ford RB - CLE (at JAC)
A decent amount of Ford's production last week occurred in garbage time, but hey, fantasy points are fantasy points. The big takeaway is that Ford was the clear workhorse for Cleveland, playing 75% of the snaps with 18 touches and 69 total yards. He was the RB17 for Week 1. Ford was ok but not outstanding in tackle-breaking metrics. Among 34 qualifying backs, he ranked 15th in missed tackles forced per attempt and 16th in yards after contact per attempt. Ford can volume his way to another solid day in Week 2, but the matchup is tough, so don't expect a monster game. In Week 1, Jacksonville didn't allow an explosive run while giving up the fifth-lowest missed tackle rate and the 11th-lowest yards after contact per attempt.

Tony Pollard Note
Tony Pollard photo 36. Tony Pollard RB - TEN (vs . NYJ)
After watching Week 1, I don't think we gave Pollard enough credit in the offseason for how much of this backfield he could possess in 2024. Pollard finished Week 1 as the RB11 in fantasy, playing 61% of the snaps with 19 touches and 94 total yards. Among 34 qualifying backs, Pollard ranked 13th in explosive run rate and 10th in yards after contact per attempt. This is an average matchup for Pollard if Levis can somehow keep the Jets from stacking the box. In Week 1, New York allowed the seventh-highest missed tackle rate and the ninth-highest yards after contact per attempt while lining up well with 2023. Last year the Jets allowed the 11th-highest missed tackle rate, the ninth-highest yards after contact per attempt, and the second-most gap rushing yards (Pollard 68% gap in Week 1).

Brandon Aiyuk Note
Brandon Aiyuk photo 37. Brandon Aiyuk WR - SF (at MIN)
Last week Aiyuk wasn't nearly as limited as we were led to believe walking into Week 1. He had a 75.8% route run rate with a 17.2% target share, a 19.1% air-yard share, 1.12 YPRR, and a 13.6% first-read share. That first-read share ranked fourth among the 49ers' starting skill players. We shouldn't be surprised by that, though, as Samuel was slated to lead the passing attack with the coverage matchup that they faced in Week 1. It should be much the same this week, with Samuel doing the heavy lifting. In Week 1, Minny utilized two high on a crazy 83.7% of their coverage snaps to lead the NFL. Last year, against two high defenses, Aiyuk had an 18% target share, a 35.3% air-yard share (15.5 aDOT), 2.58 YPRR, and a 25% first-read share. Aiyuk is still getting his legs under him after missing most of the offseason with trade rumors and contract issues swirling. Aiyuk will run about 80% of his routes against Stephon Gilmore (2023: 56.8% catch rate and 90.4 passer rating) and Shaquill Griffin (2023: 63.8% catch rate and 82.5 passer rating). I expect his route share to trickle up, but this could be another sleepy week for Aiyuk.

Devin Singletary Note
Devin Singletary photo 38. Devin Singletary RB - NYG (at WAS)
Singletary finished as a middle-of-the-road RB3 last week (RB34) despite playing 70% of the snaps with 14 touches and 52 total yards. He didn't manage an explosive run or a missed tackle forced, but he was sixth in yards after contact per attempt. The Giants' line was offensive, logging in with the fifth-lowest yards before contact per attempt. This is another week of Singletary being a low-ceiling RB2/flex play against a run defense that, in Week 1, allowed the sixth-lowest missed tackle rate, the second-lowest yards after contact per attempt, and the ninth-lowest yards per carry. This all happened despite Tampa Bay last week finishing with the eighth-highest yards before contact per attempt. Singletary will get swarmed as soon as he gets the handoffs.

DeVonta Smith Note
DeVonta Smith photo 39. DeVonta Smith WR - PHI (vs . ATL)
Zack Moss Note
Zack Moss photo 40. Zack Moss RB - CIN (at KC)
Moss finished Week 1 as the RB22 in fantasy while playing 65% of the snaps with 11 touches and 61 total yards. This could be a game where Cincy leans on their ground game. In Week 1, among 36 qualifying backs, Moss ranked 10th in missed tackles forced per attempt and 13th in yards after contact per attempt. Last year, Kansas City allowed the 10th-highest explosive run rate and the 13th-highest yards after contact per attempt, and it had the second-lowest stuff rate. The Bengals line did a good job at opening up holes up front last week, ranking 10th in adjusted yards before contact per attempt. Let's see if they can do it again versus Kansas City. The Chiefs allowed the 10th-highest yards before contact per attempt last year.

Jaylen Waddle Note
Jaylen Waddle photo 41. Jaylen Waddle WR - MIA (vs . BUF)
Last Week, Waddle made the most of his target volume as he posted 109 receiving yards and 3.89 YPRR while only drawing a 13.5% target share and a 32.1% air-yard share. This didn't stop Waddle from finishing with 16.2 fantasy points. Waddle should see some of the target volume move back in his direction this week. In Week 1, Buffalo utilized two-high on 68.4% of their defensive snaps (the fifth-highest rate in the NFL). This lines up with their usage of two-high last year (59%, third-highest). Last year against two-high, Waddle had a 22.9% target share, 3.14 YPRR, and a 24.5% first-read share. Starting Waddle is a bet on talent against a tough opponent. Last year, Buffalo allowed the seventh-lowest PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers. Waddle will run about 82% of his routes against Christian Benford (2023: 68.9% catch rate and 87.7 passer rating) and Rasul Douglas (2023: 61.3% catch rate and 73.1 passer rating).

Zach Charbonnet Note

DJ Moore Note
DJ Moore photo 43. DJ Moore WR - CHI (at HOU)
In his first game with Williams under center, Moore had a 27.6% target share, a 30.1% air-yard share, 1.20 YPRR, and a 30% first-read share. This only led to five grabs and 36 receiving yards, but we have already discussed Williams' struggles in Week 1. Moore and Keenan Allen operated as a 1A/1B. If Williams bounces back in his second start then Moore is coming along for the ride. Fire him up as you would usually. He will run about 73% of his routes against Kamari Lassiter (33% catch rate and 42.4 passer rating) and Derek Stingley Jr. (50% catch rate and 56.3 passer rating).

D'Andre Swift Note
D'Andre Swift photo 44. D'Andre Swift RB - CHI (at HOU)
Swift finished Week 1 as the RB44 in fantasy, playing 70% of the snaps with ten touches and 30 total yards. It's a small sample, but his tackle-breaking is a mild concern. Among 34 backs in Week 1, he ranked 21st in missed tackles forced per attempt and 18th in yards after contact per attempt. Houston should put the clamps on Swift in Week 2. Against this run defense in Week 1, Jonathan Taylor only had 3.0 yards per carry and 48 rushing yards. Last year, Houston allowed the sixth-lowest explosive run rate and the 14th-lowest fantasy points per game, and it managed the third-highest stuff rate.

Malik Nabers Note
Malik Nabers photo 45. Malik Nabers WR - NYG (at WAS)
In his first NFL game, Nabers finished as the WR32 in fantasy with a 16.7% target share, a 27.5% air-yard share, 1.38 YPRR, and a 31.8% first-read share. Among 78 qualifying receivers, he ranked 27th in separation and 53rd in route win rate. This is the perfect matchup for Nabers to show the world his talent if Jones can get him catchable targets, which is a massive question. Last week, oddly enough, it wasn't as 85.7% of his targets were catchable. Nabers will run about 88% of his routes against Benjamin St. Juste (75% catch rate and 131.8 passer rating) and Noah Igbinoghene (career: 56.5% catch rate and 110.3 passer rating). Nabers is dealing with a knee issue, but he has been deemed good to go for Week 2. He was limited in practice on Thursday before upgrading to a full session on Friday.

DK Metcalf Note
DK Metcalf photo 46. DK Metcalf WR - SEA (at NE)
I was worried about Metcalf in Week 1 getting shadowed by Patrick Surtain lll and it happened. Surtain lll shut down Metcalf as he followed him on 96% of his routes, allowing only 29 scoreless receiving yards. The same could happen in Week 2. Last week, Christian Gonzalez followed Ja'Marr Chase on 90% of his routes, and only 25 scoreless receiving yards were allowed. Overall, to open the season, Metcalf had a 16% target share, a 32.3% air-yard share, 1.21 YPRR, and a 22.2% first-read share. In Week 1, New England ranked ninth in two high usage (54.3%). Last year against two-high, Metcalf had a 14.9% target share, a 30.3% air-yard share, 1.72 YPRR, and a 20.4% first-read share. This isn't a week to expect a ceiling game from Metcalf. He likely needs a touchdown, or it'll be another quiet week for fantasy.

Chris Olave Note
Chris Olave photo 47. Chris Olave WR - NO (at DAL)
Olave's Week 1 was among the biggest unexpected flops of the fantasy landscape. His 8.3% target share, 5.6% air-yard share, and 11.1% first-read share were surprising. The data backs up his rough Week 1 outing. Among 104 qualifying wide receivers, he ranked 55th in route win rate. That's not a coffin nail, but it's not what we expected entering this season. Considering Olave is in the prime of his career, and he ranked 24th in YPRR and 16th in FD/RR last year, I'm willing to write off his Week 1 performance, but it deserves monitoring. This week could be more of the same for Olave against Dallas's new look two high defense. In Week 1, they ranked tenth in two high rate (50.9%). Last year, among 104 qualifying receivers, Olave ranked 49th in separation and 51st in win rate against two-high. Last year against two high, Olave had a 19.4% target share, a 35.6% air-yard share, 1.45 YPRR (yikes!), and a 27.6% first-read share. Olave will run about 76% of his routes against Trevon Diggs (66.7% catch rate and 30.6 passer rating) and Caelen Carson (55.6% catch rate and 105.8 passer rating).

Marvin Harrison Jr. Note
Marvin Harrison Jr. photo 48. Marvin Harrison Jr. WR - ARI (vs . LAR)
One of the most concerning stat lines last week was Harrison Jr.'s box score. He had only a 9.7% target share, a 16.4% air-yard share, 0.12 YPRR, and a 14.3% first-read share. He secured only one of his three targets for four receiving yards. The per-route data isn't any kinder. Among 78 qualifying receivers for Week 1, Harrison Jr. was 68th in separation and 72nd in route win rate. For a legendary prospect, this is the stuff of nightmares. We'll see if this is an isolated sample or if Harrison Jr. becomes 2024, Quentin Johnston. My hope is this is just a one-game hiccup, but only time will tell. I'm not willing to sit him or bury him in the ranks after only one game. Harrison Jr. will run about 75% of his routes in Week 2 against Akhello Witherspoon (2023: 50% catch rate and 79.2 passer rating) and Tre'Davious White (66.7% catch rate and 149.3 passer rating), so the sledding doesn't get any easier versus the Rams. Last year the Rams allowed the 14th-lowest PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers.

Drake London photo 49. Drake London WR - ATL (at PHI)
My worry about London's Week 1 outlook came to fruition. He was shadowed by Joey Porter Jr. on 65% of his routes and held to one reception for seven yards in his coverage. Overall, he had an 11.5% target share, a 17.1% air-yard share, 0.65 YPRR, and an 11.8% first-read share. Cousins was averse to driving the ball in Week 1, as only Darnell Mooney had an aDOT higher than 10.0. Among 78 receivers last week, London finished with the second-lowest separation score and route win rate. I hope London bounces back this week, but tread carefully with this passing attack. In Week 1, Philly utilized single high at the sixth-highest rate. Last year, among 84 qual wide receivers, London ranked 60th in separation score and 64th in route win rate against single high. London will run about 73% of his routes against Darius Slay (2023: 64.3% catch rate and 84.3 passer rating) and Quinyon Mitchell (55.6% catch rate and 88.2 passer rating) in Week 2.

Sam LaPorta Note
Sam LaPorta photo 50. Sam LaPorta TE - DET (vs . TB)
Gus Edwards Note
Gus Edwards photo 51. Gus Edwards RB - LAC (at CAR)
Edwards is a touchdown-dependent flex play with a great matchup this week. Last week, he played 42% of the snaps, with 12 touches and 28 total yards. Edwards only ran six routes to Dobbins' 17, so don't expect any pass-game involvement for Edwards weekly. The sad thing for Edwards is that he is likely just keeping a seat warm for Kimani Vidal in this offense. Edwards didn't manage one explosive run or one missed tackle in Week 1, with only 1.73 yards after contact per attempt. He could finish as an RB3 this week, though, if he falls into the end zone. In Week 1, Carolina had the eighth-lowest stuff rate while giving up the third-most rushing yards, the seventh-highest yards after contact per attempt, and the 13th-highest yards before contact per attempt.

Chris Godwin Note
Chris Godwin photo 52. Chris Godwin WR - TB (at DET)
Godwin came out the gate swinging last week as the WR8 in fantasy scoring. He commanded a 26.7% target share, a 22.3% air-yard share, and a 29.2% first-read share, producing a cool 3.77 YPRR. Godwin ran out of the slot on 50% of his snaps, which was a little low, considering all of the off-season reports discussing his return to heavy slot usage. I do think that probably ticks up, depending on the matchups moving forward. Detroit had the ninth-highest single high usage last week (60.8%). Last year in Weeks 14-18, against single high, Godwin led the team with 2.45 YPRR and 0.125 FD/RR and was second behind only Mike Evans in target share (19.1%) and first-read share (21.1%). Godwin will match up with Terrion Arnold (80% catch rate and 90.4 passer rating) and Carlton Davis (69.2% catch rate and 122.0 passer rating) when on the perimeter in Week 2.

Xavier Worthy Note
Xavier Worthy photo 53. Xavier Worthy WR - KC (vs . CIN)
Well, that didn't take long. Worthy exploded immediately in fantasy with a WR11 showing in Week 1. Yes, some of it was flukey as he scored on a rushing attempt from 21 yards out, but he's also an explosive receiver who can be a splash play merchant. Worthy was a full-time player with a 76% route share, a 10.7% target share, a 27.3% air-yard share, 2.04 YPRR, and a 14.3% first-read share. Rashee Rice operated as the clear WR1, but there's plenty of room for Worthy to continue to produce in this offense. In Week 1, among 78 qualifying receivers, he was 34th in separation and route win rate. Worthy could blow up again in Week 2 while running about 56% of his routes against Dax Hill (career: 68.9% catch rate and 115.3 passer rating) and Cam Taylor-Britt (career: 54% catch rate and 78.0 passer rating).

Amari Cooper Note
Amari Cooper photo 54. Amari Cooper WR - CLE (at JAC)
Cooper walked away from Week 1 with only two receptions and 15 receiving yards despite earning a solid volume clip. He had a 20% target share, a 47.7% air-yard share, and a 22.9% first-read share despite 0.31 YPRR. This is partially a Watson problem, but Cooper's per-route metrics are also frightening. Among 78 qualifying wide receivers in Week 1, Cooper had the 23rd-lowest separation score and the tenth-lowest route win rate. We'll see if this is an isolated finding that clears up quickly, but it had to be mentioned. Getting back to Watson, though, he is definitely part of the problem, as only 44.4% of Cooper's targets were deemed catchable. If Cooper still has the juice, he should have no problem taking advantage of the Jags outside corner duo this week. He'll run about 78% of his routes against Ronald Darby (83.3% catch rate and 158.3 passer rating) and Montaric Brown (career: 69.2% catch rate and 123.2 passer rating).

Davante Adams Note
Davante Adams photo 55. Davante Adams WR - LV (at BAL)
Adams walks out of Week 1 as the WR37 in fantasy scoring with an interesting market share profile. Against the Chargers, he had an 18.2% target share, a 41.1% air-yard share, 1.69 YPRR, and a 30% first-read share. While Adams led the team in first read rate, he was behind Brock Bowers in target share. There's no world where Adams should be behind anyone on this team in market share. I get Bowers was an amazing prospect, but this should never happen in 2024. We should see this normalized moving forward, possibly as soon as Week 2. The matchup for Adams is tough, though. Last week, Baltimore utilized Marlon Humphrey in the slot, but he could be pushed back to the boundary this week with Adams running on the perimeter. Adams will match up with Brandon Stephens (2023: 63.6% catch rate and 82.4 passer rating) and Marlon Humphrey (2023: 52.5% catch rate and 69.2 passer rating) all day.

Ezekiel Elliott Note
Ezekiel Elliott photo 56. Ezekiel Elliott RB - DAL (vs . NO)
Elliott split the work essentially evenly with Rico Dowdle in Week 1. Elliott played 51% of the snaps with 12 touches and 49 total yards. He saw the only red zone touch for the Dallas backfield. I don't know how long Elliott will retain his hold on half this backfield if his Week 1 efficiency numbers stay this bad. He was stuffed on 60% of his runs with zero missed tackles forced and only 1.80 yards after contact per attempt. This looks like a matchup to run away from for Elliott in fantasy. Last week, New Orleans allowed zero explosive runs, only a 10% missed tackle rate, and 1.40 yards after contact per attempt. This lines up with their numbers last year, as the Saints were 17th in explosive run rate with the 11th-highest stuff rate and the fifth-lowest rushing touchdown rate allowed. Sit Elliott.

Tank Dell Note
Tank Dell photo 57. Tank Dell WR - HOU (vs . CHI)
In Week 1, Dell shared the field stretching role (16.3 aDOT) with Collins as he saw a 21.9% target share, a 46% air-yard share, and a 23.8% first-read share with 1.29 YPRR. Dell only converted the volume into three receptions and 40 receiving yards. When Houston faced single high coverage in Week 1, Dell was the second in command behind Nico Collins with a 17.6% target share, a 37.4% air-yard share, and a 20% first-read share. Dell should be the second option in the passing attack this week that will run about 67% of his routes against Jaylon Johnson (33% catch rate and 2.8 passer rating) and Tyrique Stevenson (33% catch rate and 46.8 passer rating).

Zay Flowers Note
Zay Flowers photo 58. Zay Flowers WR - BAL (vs . LV)
Flowers' Week 1 usage was quite similar to his 2023 season. Baltimore still funneled underneath looks to him with a 6.1 aDOT and a 40% designed target rate. Overall, Flowers had a 24.4% target share, a 20.8% air-yard share, 0.79 YPRR, and a 30.4% first-read share. The yards per route run jumps off the page, but the Chiefs were clamping down on these underneath passes all game with increasing success as the game moved along. Flowers could find more success with the short passes in Week 2, though, against a defense that had the 11th-most missed tackles last year while also giving up the third-most yards after the catch. Flowers will run about 76% of his routes against Jakorian Bennett (2023: 65.6% catch rate and 102.3 passer rating) and Jack Jones (2023: 60.6% catch rate and 68.1 passer rating).

George Pickens Note
George Pickens photo 59. George Pickens WR - PIT (at DEN)
In Week 1, Pickens soaked up some ridiculous volume numbers with a 30.4% target share, a 74.4% air-yard share, 4.25 YPRR, and a 33.3% first-read share. He finished the week as the WR22 in fantasy. What's even more impressive with these numbers is that A.J. Terrell shadowed him on 80% of his routes. With Terrell in his back pocket, he secured four of his five targets for 80 yards. The problem, though, is he will get shadowed this week by Patrick Surtain, who just shadowed D.K. Metcalf for 96% of his routes, allowing only three receptions and 29 receiving yards. Keep your Pickens expectations reasonable for Week 2.

Stefon Diggs Note
Stefon Diggs photo 60. Stefon Diggs WR - HOU (vs . CHI)
In his first game as a Texan, Diggs had an 18.8% target share as the underneath option (1.3 aDOT). He finished with six grabs, 33 receiving yards (1.0 YPRR), and two scores that saved his day. Diggs was third in first read share with 19%. When the team had single-high looks in Week 1, he only had an 11.8% target share and 10% first-read share. This matters because, in Week 1, Chicago utilized single high at the 10th highest rate (60.5%). I expect a quieter game for Diggs in Week 2 as he'll run about 63% of his routes from the slot against Kyler Gordon (career: 77.3% catch rate and 102.1 passer rating).

Jameson Williams Note
Jameson Williams photo 61. Jameson Williams WR - DET (vs . TB)
Williams was flat-out amazing in Week 1. This was the version of Williams that I saw as a prospect. It was so glorious to see him crushing cornerback's souls in Week 1. Williams was the WR5 in scoring, hogging a 32.1% target share, a 68.1% air-yard share, and a 42.9% first-read share with 4.32 YPRR. While his aDOT was 15.4, six of his eight targets came within 19 yards of the line of scrimmage (50% within nine yards of the line of scrimmage), so don't look at him as a field-stretching-only option. Williams will run about 73% of his routes against Jamel Dean (2023: 67.5% catch rate and 116.0 passer rating) and the combination of Christian Izien (2023: 80% catch rate and 104.8 passer rating) and Bryce Hall (2023: 58.3% catch rate and 49.3 passer rating). Williams could easily stack another monster outing to begin his 2024 campaign. He has been listed as questionable (ankle) after practicing on a limited basis all week.

Travis Kelce Note
Travis Kelce photo 62. Travis Kelce TE - KC (vs . CIN)
Javonte Williams Note
Javonte Williams photo 63. Javonte Williams RB - DEN (vs . PIT)
Williams had a tough Week 1. He played 52% of the snaps but only had nine touches and 23 scoreless yards to show for it. Seattle's defense didn't respect the pass and clogged the running lanes which could easily happen again this week. Williams has an interesting tackle-breaking profile that we'll have to continue to monitor to see if he's back to his pre-injury form. Among 40 qualifying backs in Week 1, he was 10th in missed tackles forced per attempt, but he was also 28th in yards after contact per attempt and didn't manage one explosive run. His offensive line also didn't do him any favors, as they had the seventh-lowest yards before contact per attempt. If Nix can keep the Steelers run defense honest (big if), then he could find some running room this week against a team that allowed the fourth-highest missed tackle rate, the sixth-highest yards after contact per attempt, the 13th-highest gap yards per carry (Williams 63% gap Week 1), and the 12th-highest gap success rate last year.

Trey McBride Note
Trey McBride photo 64. Trey McBride TE - ARI (vs . LAR)
Michael Pittman Jr. Note
Michael Pittman Jr. photo 65. Michael Pittman Jr. WR - IND (at GB)
Pittman remains the clear WR1 for Indy. A heavy infusion of target volume didn't save Pittman from finishing last week as the WR58. He did gobble up a 42.1% target share, a 24.7% air-yard share, and a 38.9% first-read share with 1.55 YPRR last week. Among 104 qualifying receivers, Pittman ranked 22nd in route win rate. Green Bay opened the year with the 11th-highest rate of single-high (59%). Last year, Pittman was also their go-to against single-high with a 29.6% target share, a 31.1% air-yard share, 2.09 YPRR, and a 37.3% first-read share. Pittman could get shadowed this week by Jaire Alexander (2023: 71.8% catch rate and 107.1 passer rating). Alexander followed A.J. Brown last week on 69.4% of his routes. Brown burned him in the open field for a long score, but Pittman doesn't have those type of wheels after the catch. It should be a good matchup.

Terry McLaurin Note
Terry McLaurin photo 66. Terry McLaurin WR - WAS (vs . NYG)
In Week 1, McLaurin wasn't the target hog we were promised during draft season. He had only a 16.7% target share, a 64% air-yard share, 0.68 YPRR, and a 22.2% first-read share. Washington's offense looked like a unit that is still finding its way and will mature as quickly as their rookie quarterback does. Daniels took off running and checked down for most of the day, so I'm not hitting the panic button yet. This is a good get-right spot for Mclaurin. Last year, the Giants allowed the 12th-most receiving yards per game to perimeter wide receivers. McLaurin will run about 88% of his routes against Deonte Banks (60% catch rate and 138.3 passer rating) and Adoree’ Jackson (2023: 65.9% catch rate and 98.3 passer rating).

George Kittle Note

Zamir White Note
Zamir White photo 68. Zamir White RB - LV (at BAL)
White's Week 1 stat line was sobering. White played only 38% of the snaps, with 15 touches and 46 total yards. He only posted an 8% missed tackles forced per attempt rate and 2.0 yards after contact per attempt, but let's not freak out after one week. His 2024 tackle-breaking numbers as the starter were solid. It was more concerning that he conceded the passing downs to Alexander Mattison, who played 73% of the passing down snaps. White did have a stranglehold on the early down work with a 68% snap rate on rushing plays. On paper, White's rushing matchup against Baltimore doesn't look imposing. Last week, Baltimore ranked 15th in explosive run rate allowed and stuff rate while giving up the fifth-most missed tackles per attempt. A lot of these numbers track with their 2023 performance, as the Ravens allowed the 13th-highest explosive run rate and the eighth-highest missed tackles per attempt last year. The biggest concern for White isn't the rushing matchup but rather getting game scripted out like last week.

Brian Thomas Jr. Note
Brian Thomas Jr. photo 69. Brian Thomas Jr. WR - JAC (vs . CLE)
In Week 1, Thomas Jr. finished as the WR20 in fantasy, drawing a 19% target share, a 26.7% air-yard share, and a 25% first-read share (tied for the team lead) with 2.61 YPRR. His touchdowns helped his fantasy outing immensely. Among 85 qualifying receivers, he ranked 43rd in route win rate. I'm not bullish on the rookie's outlook this week against the stellar perimeter duo of Denzel Ward (2023: 51.5% catch rate and 77.3 passer rating) and Martin Emerson Jr. (2023: 49.3% catch rate and 53.3 passer rating). He will run about 72% of his routes against them. Last year, Cleveland allowed the third-fewest PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers.

Christian Kirk Note
Christian Kirk photo 70. Christian Kirk WR - JAC (vs . CLE)
The Jaguars' insistence on running the ball in Week 1 hurt Kirk, but his market share numbers were ok. He only saw four targets, securing one for 30 yards. He had an 80% route run rate with a 19% target share, a 29% air-yard share, 1,50 YPRR, and a 25% first-read share. Among 78 qualifying receivers, he ranked 31st in separation and 41st in route win rate. These aren't amazing, but they also aren't diarrhea-inducing numbers. In Week 1, the Browns utilized single-high at the highest rate in the NFL (85.7%). Last year against single-high (among 84 qualifying receivers), Kirk ranked 21st in separation and 31st in route win rate. Kirk will run about 70% of his routes against Greg Newsome (2023: 59.7% catch rate and 80.8 passer rating). Cleveland was near league-average against slot receivers, ranking 20th in PPR points per target allowed.

Mark Andrews Note
Mark Andrews photo 71. Mark Andrews TE - BAL (vs . LV)
Isaiah Likely and Andrews' usages were flipped last week. Andrews had a 70% route run clip, with 72% of his snaps coming from the slot, so it's not like he wasn't out there. Unlike Flowers, though, Andrews didn't have any designed targets. Andrews finished with a 4.9% target share and an 8.7% first-read share. I don't see either of these metrics continuing as his norm moving forward unless there's an injury or underlying reason that hasn't been shared publicly by the team. The Raiders utilized single high on 53.8% of their defensive snaps in Week 1. Last year, Andrews was second on the team in target share (18.5%) and first-read share (20.3%) against a single high. Last year against single-high, among 40 qualifying tight ends, Andrews ranked fifth in separation score and second in route win rate. Last season, the Raiders allowed the ninth-most receptions to tight ends while ranking 17th in fantasy points allowed to slot tight ends.

Calvin Ridley Note
Calvin Ridley photo 72. Calvin Ridley WR - TEN (vs . NYJ)
Ridley was fed a monster market share in Week 1 and is likely to get similar usage in Week 2. Last week, he had a 21.9% target share, a 70.6% air-yard share (yes, you read that correctly), 1.56 YPRR, and a 28% first-read share. The problem is that with Levis struggling as badly as he did, it didn't matter much, as Ridley was the WR58 for Week 1. That's likely the case again for Week 2. Ridley will run about 83% of his routes against Sauce Gardner (2023: 56.9% catch rate and 76.5 passer rating) and D.J. Reed (2023: 61.4% catch rate and 85.1 passer rating). Last year the Jets allowed the fourth-lowest PPR points per target and the fewest receiving yards to perimeter wide receivers.

Jayden Reed Note
Jayden Reed photo 74. Jayden Reed WR - GB (vs . IND)
Reed had an insane performance in Week 1 as the WR1 for the week. On top of rolling up 138 receiving yards, he took a rushing attempt 33 yards for a score. Crazy sauce stuff. He had a 17.1% target share, a 34.4% air-yard share, 5.31 YPRR, and a 16.7% first-read share (second on the team). In Week 1, among 104 qualifying wide receivers, Reed ranked 42nd in separation and 49th in route win rate. Last week, Indy was second in the NFL in Cover 3 rate (52.6%). Last year, Reed ranked fourth on the team in separation and route win rate against Cover 3. Reed ran from the slot on 88.5% of his routes in Week 1. Last year, Indy allowed the ninth-lowest PPR points per target and the second-lowest receiving yards to slot receivers. Reed will have to deal with Kenny Moore (2023: 79.3% catch rate and 98.3 passer rating) all day. There's plenty of reasons to consider sitting Reed this week related to the quarterback play, but considering the matchup as well, it just adds even more on top of that vibe. Reed has been listed as questionable (calf, shin) after being downgraded to a limited practice on Friday. He logged full sessions on Wednesday and Thursday.

Austin Ekeler Note
Austin Ekeler photo 75. Austin Ekeler RB - WAS (vs . NYG)
If you need a desperation flex play, then Ekeler is in the conversation. He played 53% of the snaps last week with six touches and 62 total yards. He accrued most of that production through the air (four receptions, 52 receiving yards). A lot of that had to do with Daniels' reluctance to go downfield (second-highest check down rate), but that volume could easily dry up this week. Ekeler looks spry with the touches he received, but I'm not a big believer that his volume will be sustainable week to week. The other worry is his touchdown equity in this offense, as he only played 28.6% of the snaps inside the red zone. The Giants allowed the fewest receptions to backs last year but they did concede the ninth-highest yards per reception.

Ladd McConkey Note
Ladd McConkey photo 76. Ladd McConkey WR - LAC (at CAR)
McConkey exits Week 1 as the WR19 in fantasy points per game after scoring with his only end zone target. I don't say that to diminish his Week 1 performance, but that's what helped him in the fantasy scoring department, as he only managed five grabs and 39 receiving yards outside of it. He did command a strong market share with a 26.9% target share, a 25.8% air-yard share, and a 25% first-read share. He produced 1.86 YPRR with his 6.6 aDOT. His underneath targets will hurt his weekly upside unless he breaks one for a big gain. McConkey is a solid PPR flex that will run about 61% of his routes against Troy Hill (2023: 63.6% catch rate and 100.3 passer rating).

Brandin Cooks Note
Brandin Cooks photo 77. Brandin Cooks WR - DAL (vs . NO)
Cooks finished Week 1 as the WR21 in fantasy with the touchdown he scored doing much of the lifting there. Cooks did have a 21.8% target share, a 28.1% air-yard share, 1.60 YPRR, and a 24% first-read share. All of these are solid statistics from a volume standpoint. Last year, New Orleans had a 53.9% rate of single-high. That climbed to 66.7% in Week 1, which was the fifth-highest rate in the NFL. Last year, Cooks had a 19% TPRR, 1.79 YPRR, and a 17.3% first read-share (second-best on the team) against single-high. Cooks will run about 77% of his routes against Paulson Adebo (2023: 56.8% catch rate and 69.9 passer rating) and Kool-Aid McKinstry (2024: 66.7% catch rate and 109.7 passer rating).

Chuba Hubbard Note
Chuba Hubbard photo 78. Chuba Hubbard RB - CAR (vs . LAC)
Hubbard is a low-end flex play that is best left on the bench this week. Last week, he played only 54% of the snaps with six touches and 14 total yards. He failed to force a missed tackle and only managed 1.50 yards after contact per attempt. The Chargers run defense was stout last year, and they continued that trend into 2024. Last week, the Bolts didn't allow an explosive run while holding the fifth-best stuff rate and the fourth-lowest missed tackle mark in the NFL. Sit Hubbard.

Rashid Shaheed Note
Rashid Shaheed photo 79. Rashid Shaheed WR - NO (at DAL)
Shaheed finished Week 1 as the WR15 in fantasy points per game while leading the team with a 20.8% target share with a 42.7% air-yard share, 4.29 YPRR, and a 22.2% first-read share. Among 104 qualifying wide receivers, he ranked 15th in separation. This isn't the week to look at Shaheed as a high-end flex option, though, against Dallas's new look two high defense. In Week 1, they ranked tenth in two high rate (50.9%). Last year, against two high, he drew a 12.9% target share with 1.36 YPRR and a 15.4% first-read share. Among 104 qualifying wide receivers last year against the coverage, Shaheed ranked 73rd in separation and 83rd in route win rate. Shaheed will run about 61% of his routes against Trevon Diggs (66.7% catch rate and 30.6 passer rating) and Caelen Carson (55.6% catch rate and 105.8 passer rating).

Courtland Sutton Note
Courtland Sutton photo 80. Courtland Sutton WR - DEN (vs . PIT)
Sutton was the clear alpha for Denver in Week 1, with a 28.6% target share, a 62.9% air-yard share, and a 31% first-read share. While that volume looks great on the surface, Sutton also had only 38 receiving yards (0.93 YPRR), partially because only 41.7% of that target volume was catchable. Sutton is a sit this week as he'll likely see shadow coverage from Joey Porter Jr., who followed Drake London on 65% of his routes last week. Porter Jr. held London to one reception and seven receiving yards.

Diontae Johnson Note
Diontae Johnson photo 81. Diontae Johnson WR - CAR (vs . LAC)
The Panthers got the doors blown off by the Saints in Week 1, so it has muddied some of their usage metrics as the team sat players late. In the first half of their Week 1 contest, Johnson had a 33.3% target share, a 49.3% air-yard share, and a 37.5% first-read share. Those market share numbers are bonkers, but we can't be surprised, considering Johnson's talent and the receiver depth chart around him. Last year among 144 qualifying receives, Johnson ranked second in separation and first in route win rate. If the team can keep this game close, we should see Johnson fed in Week 2 against the Chargers two high coverage. In Week 1, the Bolts ranked fourth in two high usage (77.5%). Last year, Johnson was also amazing against two high, ranking second in separation and first in route win rate. Johnson will run about 67% of his routes against Asante Samuel Jr. (2023: 64.7% catch rate and 98.0 passer rating) and Kristian Fulton (2023: 72.5% catch rate and 129.3 passer rating).

Khalil Shakir Note
Khalil Shakir photo 82. Khalil Shakir WR - BUF (at MIA)
Shakir's Week 1 numbers look eerily similar to his stats when he assumed a full-time role last year. Shakir was third on the team with a 70% route per dropback rate while running from the slot on 81% of his snaps. Shakir has always been dynamic when on the field, but he has yet to prove that he can be a heavy target share earner, and that was true again in Week 1. Shakir had a 13% target share as he ran underneath routes (3.3 aDOT). Shakir managed 2.0 YPRR and 0.095 FD/RR, but he only commanded a 12.5% first-read share. Shakir has another plus matchup this week against a Miami pass defense that allowed the seventh-highest PPR points per target and the sixth-most receptions to slot receivers last year. Shakir will match up with Kader Kohou (2023: 83.5% catch rate and 132.9 passer rating) all day.

Tyjae Spears Note
Tyjae Spears photo 83. Tyjae Spears RB - TEN (vs . NYJ)
Spears is a decent flex play this week. In Week 1, he played 45% of the snaps with eight touches and 32 total yards. He was the Titan's primary passing-down back, accounting for 58% of the snaps on passing plays. The problem is he only managed 25% of the snaps when they got to the red zone, so the touchdown upside here is slim unless Spears breaks a long play. Spears had a 12.5% target share and 20% TPRR in Week 1. His pass game usage is his best route to flex appeal this week. Last year, the Jets allowed the 13th-highest receptions and the seventh-highest receiving yards and yards per reception to backs.

Keon Coleman Note
Keon Coleman photo 84. Keon Coleman WR - BUF (at MIA)
Coleman led Buffalo with an 86% route per dropback rate while drawing a 21.4% target share, a 28.1% air-yard share, and a whopping 31.13% first-read share. Coleman's 1.96 YPRR was more impressive in Week 1 than his 0.077 FD/RR. The full-time status for Coleman was a nice sign as he drew one of only two end zone targets for Week 1. It's nice to see Josh Allen lean on the rookie so early. Coleman won't have an easy time this week as he runs all of his routes against Kendall Fuller (67.1% catch rate and 101.9 passer rating) and Jalen Ramsey (54.8% catch rate and 52.9 passer rating). Coleman should still see enough volume and high-leverage usage to turn in a flex-viable game.

Demarcus Robinson Note
Demarcus Robinson photo 85. Demarcus Robinson WR - LAR (at ARI)
Last week, after Puka Nacua left the game (2nd quarter through OT), Robinson had a 17.4% target share, a 19.6% air-yard share, 2.00 YPRR, and a 16.7% first-read share (second on the team tied with Tyler Johnson). Robinson should assume the WR2 role with Nacua out. In Week 1, among 78 qualifying receivers, Robinson ranked 33rd in separation and 13th in route win rate. These numbers check out as he was 18th in separation and 42nd in route win rate last year (among 125 qualifying receivers). Robinson will run about 66% of his routes against Sean Murphy-Bunting (2023: 65.2% catch rate and 91.9 passer rating) and Starling Thomas (career: 78% catch rate and 139.7 passer rating). Last year, the Cardinals allowed the third-highest PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers. They could easily be in that area code again in 2024.

Jaleel McLaughlin Note
Jaleel McLaughlin photo 86. Jaleel McLaughlin RB - DEN (vs . PIT)
What the surface box score doesn't tell you is that McLaughlin played more on rushing plays and less on passing downs than Javonte Williams in Week 1. McLaughlin had a 50% snap rate on rushing plays (Williams 40%) and a 30% snapshare on passing downs (Williams 55%). Some of that could be related to pass pro because McLaughlin still earned a 42% TPRR and 11.9% target share (five targets) in Week 1. McLaughlin was still effective with the work that he received on early downs, ranking 16th in missed tackles forced per attempt and 17th in yards after contact per attempt (among 40 qualifying backs). Yes, I know you're wondering how I can say this, looking at his box score, but his offensive line only managed 0.20 yards before contact per attempt on his carries. Basically, as soon as he got the ball, a defender was already in his face. It's nearly impossible to expect a back to produce in any offense when that's the case every snap. Overall, McLaughlin played 35% of the snaps with 15 touches and 28 total yards. If Nix can provide decent quarterback play, we could see McLaughlin's numbers improve in Week 2.

Dalton Kincaid Note
Dalton Kincaid photo 87. Dalton Kincaid TE - BUF (at MIA)
Kincaid's Week 1 stat line was disappointing, to say the least. He only had a 4.3% target share, 3% air-yard share, and a 6.3% first-read share despite having an 80% route share and running 58% of his routes from the slot. Better days are ahead for Kincaid, though. Playing time was the big worry entering the year with Dawson Knox back in the fold. Knox only had a 43% route share, so Kincaid is the clear starter. Let's remind ourselves of Kincaid's talent before freaking out over a one-game sample. Last year in Weeks 7-18, he ranked seventh in target share (19.0%), ninth in receiving yards per game (50.5) and first-read share (21.0%), and 12th in YPRR (1.85). Fire Kincaid back up this week against a Miami defense that last year allowed the seventh-most fantasy points per game, the 11th-most receiving yards, and the sixth-most receiving touchdowns (tied) to tight ends.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Note
Jaxon Smith-Njigba photo 88. Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR - SEA (at NE)
Week 1 wasn't the type of game I thought Smith-Njigba would open the season with. He finished with an 8% target share (two targets), a 3.5 aDOT, and a 5.6% first-read share. Among 104 qualifying wide receivers, he ranked 46th in route win rate. This week could bring better things for Smith-Njigba. In Week 1, New England ranked ninth in two high usage (54.3%). Last year, against two-high, Smith-Njigba had an 18.2% target share, 1.58 YPRR, and a 22.7% first-read share. He ranked 25th in TPRR against two high. Smith-Njigba should run about 86% of his routes against Marcus Jones (career: 65.1% catch rate and 90.7 passer rating).
Tyler Lockett Note
Tyler Lockett photo 89. Tyler Lockett WR - SEA (at NE)
Lockett only had a 65% route rate in Week 1, but he made the most of it with a 24% target share, a 42.6% air-yard share, and 4.28 YPRR as the WR22 in fantasy. In Week 1, New England ranked ninth in two high usage (54.3%). Last year, against two-high, Lockett had a 20.4% target share, a 41.5% air-yard share, 1.73 YPRR, and a 23.3% first-read share (led the team). With Gonzalez stuck to Metcalf, Lockett should see Jonathan Jones (2023: 57.4% catch rate and 86.0 passer rating) for most of the game. Geno Smith should lean on Smith-Njigba and Lockett this week.

Christian Watson Note
Christian Watson photo 90. Christian Watson WR - GB (vs . IND)
Downgrade the entire passing attack for Green Bay until Jordan Love is back under center. Last week, Watson had a 65% route run rate with a 14.3% target share, a 21.4% air-yard share, and a 16.7% first-read share (second on the team). Watson led the team with three end-zone targets. He snagged one of them for a score as the WR39 in fantasy last week. Last week, Indy was second in the NFL in Cover 3 rate (52.6%). Last year, Watson led Green Bay in separation and route win rate against Cover 3. Among 92 qualifying receivers last year, Watson ranked 21st in separation against Cover 3. Watson could lead the way this week. Watson will run about 61% of his routes against Dallis Flowers (61.1% catch rate and 98.1 passer rating) and Jaylon Jones (54.4% catch rate and 106.6 passer rating).

Isaiah Likely Note
Isaiah Likely photo 91. Isaiah Likely TE - BAL (vs . LV)
Likely went bonkers in Week 1 with a 29.3% target share, a 38.2% air-yard share, and 3.58 yards per route run. His 26.1 fantasy points will likely be a season-high, but we can't dismiss Likely's usage. He will remain involved heavily in this offense, but these market share numbers aren't sustainable unless Andrews isn't as healthy as we've been led to believe. Likely only had a 60.8% route participation. The Raiders utilized single high on 53.8% of their defensive snaps in Week 1. Last year against single-high, among 40 qualifying tight ends, Likely ranked eighth in separation score and 11th in route win rate. Last season, the Raiders allowed the ninth-most receptions to tight ends while ranking 17th in fantasy points allowed to slot tight ends.

Rico Dowdle Note
Rico Dowdle photo 92. Rico Dowdle RB - DAL (vs . NO)
Dowdle was the 1B in this backfield last week with 44% of the snaps, nine touches, and 32 total yards. The blowout nature of last week's game does kind of distort the numbers, but Dowdle's per-touch efficiency wasn't much better than Elliott's, but it was better. Dowdle also didn't have an explosive run or missed tackle forced while also being stuffed on 50% of his runs with 2.13 yards after contact per attempt. Dowdle is also a sit this week in a terrible matchup for the Dallas ground game.

Chase Brown Note
Chase Brown photo 93. Chase Brown RB - CIN (at KC)
Brown didn't have the role that we heard out of camp out of the gate. He was the clear backup and not 1B in this offense. Brown only played 33% of the snaps in Week 1, logging six touches and 23 total yards. Hold him on your rosters if you have room, but don't consider starting him anytime soon unless there's any injury to Moss.

Gabe Davis Note
Gabe Davis photo 94. Gabe Davis WR - JAC (vs . CLE)
Davis will also have to deal with Denzel Ward (2023: 51.5% catch rate and 77.3 passer rating) and Martin Emerson Jr. (2023: 49.3% catch rate and 53.3 passer rating) on about 73% of his routes, but I'll say between Davis and Thomas Jr. I'm a little higher on Davis this week. In Week 1, Davis had a 14.3% target share, a 27.3% air-yard share, 2.95 YPRR, and a 12.5% first-read share. In Week 1, the Browns utilized single-high at the highest rate in the NFL (85.7%). Last year against single-high (among 84 qualifying receivers), Davis was 26th in separation and 16th in route win rate. These numbers stand out. With Davis' 16.0 aDOT, his looks likely come downfield which hurts his outlook. Last year, Cleveland allowed the lowest passer rating and the third-lowest adjusted completion rate to deep passing. It's a mixed bag for Davis in Week 2, but I won't be surprised if he does haul in a deep target for a score.

Joshua Palmer Note
Joshua Palmer photo 95. Joshua Palmer WR - LAC (at CAR)
Better days are ahead for Palmer. He led the team with a 96.4% route run rate with a 15.4% target share, a 25.3% air-yard share (11.3 aDOT), and an 8.3% first-read share. The first-read share isn't great by any stretch of the imagination. He did struggle in Week 1 to gain consistent separation, but it's a one-game sample, so I'm willing to give Palmer a mulligan. In Week 1, among 104 qualifying receivers, he ranked 54th in separation and 59th in route win rate. Last year, among 144 receivers, Palmer ranked 24th in separation and 23rd in route win rate. If you're targeting a Bolts' wide receiver to consider flexing this week, it's McConkey, though, as Palmer's matchup on the perimeter isn't great. Palmer will run about 67% of his routes against Jaycee Horn (2023: 60.7% catch rate and 88.2 passer rating) and Mike Jackson (68.8% catch rate and 93.5 passer rating). Palmer was limited in practice on Wednesday and Thursday before missing Friday’s session (knee). He has been listed as questionable.

Jeff Wilson Jr. Note
Jeff Wilson Jr. photo 96. Jeff Wilson Jr. RB - MIA (vs . BUF)
Last year, Wilson's workload was limited (41 carries). He wasn't particularly good when he got volume, either. Last year, among 77 qualifying backs, Wilson ranked 69th in missed tackles forced per attempt and 51st in yards after contact per attempt. Wilson can take advantage of this matchup if called upon this week if Achane is out. In that scenario, I would expect Wilson to lead the backfield, especially playing on passing downs, as Jaylen Wright factors in on early downs to share the workload. The Bills are a softer matchup on the ground. Last year, they gave up the seventh-highest explosive run rate, the fourth-highest yards after contact per attempt, and the 6th-highest yards per carry to zone runs (2023: Wilson 56.1% zone). Wilson should be a decent flex if Achane plays. If he's out, he could return RB2 value.

Jerry Jeudy Note
Jerry Jeudy photo 97. Jerry Jeudy WR - CLE (at JAC)
Jeudy opened the 2024 season with a WR33 finish, which was heavily influenced by him getting in the end zone. He did have solid market share metrics with a 17.8% target share, a 31.4% air-yard share, and a 20% first-read share, although all he did was post 0.58 YPRR. His per-route numbers, though, do portray a receiver that was held by bad quarterback play. In Week 1, among 78 qualifying receivers, Jeudy ranked 18th in separation and 21st in route win rate. If Cooper is cooked, Jeudy could be the receiver in this offense to emerge with a big game in Week 2, running about 65% of his routes against Ronald Darby (83.3% catch rate and 158.3 passer rating) and Montaric Brown (career: 69.2% catch rate and 123.2 passer rating).

Brock Bowers Note
Brock Bowers photo 98. Brock Bowers TE - LV (at BAL)
In Week 1, Bowers led the team with a 24.2% target share, 2.0 YPRR, and 0.103 FD/RR while ranking second in first-read share (25%). He finished the week as the TE3 in fantasy while running 55.2% of his routes from the slot with a 72.5% route run rate. Bowers has a tough matchup incoming, but his target volume and usage will keep him among the TE1 ranks. Last year, Baltimore allowed the 10th-lowest yards per reception, the second-fewest receiving touchdowns, and the ninth-fewest fantasy points to tight ends.

Jakobi Meyers Note
Jakobi Meyers photo 99. Jakobi Meyers WR - LV (at BAL)
Meyers isn't in consideration for fantasy lineups until his volume increases or this passing offense looks like it can support multiple weapons. Meyers was productive with the volume he earned with 1.97 YPRR, but he only had a 9.1% target share and a 10% first-read share; even with his 13.7 aDOT, that's just not good enough. Hold him in deeper leagues if you need the wide receiver depth, but he's a cut candidate in shallow or normal 12-team leagues.

Greg Dortch Note
Greg Dortch photo 101. Greg Dortch WR - ARI (vs . LAR)
Harrison Jr.'s loss was Dortch's gain in Week 1. Dortch ranked second on the team with a 25.8% target share and 31.8% air-yard share. He produced 1.96 YPRR and handled a 28.6% first-read share. He finished as the WR35 for the week in fantasy. Last year, he was a WR3 or better in four of the seven games in which he played at least 64% of the snaps. This could easily be an isolated incident, as he was 89th in separation and 116th in route win rate among 125 qualifying receivers. Dortch is a decent flex play in PPR leagues that will run about 75% of his routes against Cobie Durant (65.2% catch rate and 101.1 passer rating). Last year, the Rams allowed the 13th-lowest PPR points per target to slot receivers.

Tank Bigsby Note
Tank Bigsby photo 102. Tank Bigsby RB - JAC (vs . CLE)
Adonai Mitchell Note
Adonai Mitchell photo 103. Adonai Mitchell WR - IND (at GB)
Mitchell is a weekly high upside flex swing, but he carries a substantial amount of risk if Downs is active. Mitchell could split snaps with Pierce as the outside receiver opposite of Pittman, with Downs working in the slot. Mitchell could also be a full-time player operating between the slot and perimeter with Downs and Pierce limited. There’s no way to tell how this situation will work out if Downs is active for Week 2. If Downs is ruled out, Mitchell should play a full-time role in a similar way to Week 1. Last week, he and Richardson almost connected on a beautiful deep ball with which he would have waltzed into the endzone. That would have changed the complexion of his fantasy week massively. Mitchell had a 26.3% target share, a 26.9% air-yard share, and 27.8% air-yard share.

Dallas Goedert Note
Dallas Goedert photo 105. Dallas Goedert TE - PHI (vs . ATL)
Last week, Goedert was the TE12 as he saw a 14.7% target share and 15.8% first-read share with 1.19 YPRR as the clear WR3 in the Philly offense. Goedert should again post TE1 numbers in Week 2. In Week 1, Atlanta utilized single high at the eighth-highest rate (62.1%). In 2023, among 28 qualifying tight ends, Goedert ranked eighth in separation score and 11th in route win rate against single high. Last year, Atlanta allowed the fourth-highest receiving yards, the 13th-highest yards per reception, and the sixth-highest fantasy points to tight ends.

Andrei Iosivas Note
Andrei Iosivas photo 106. Andrei Iosivas WR - CIN (at KC)
In his first game of the season, Iosivas disappointed. The training camp hype fell flat quickly. He was a full-time player with a 96% route share, a 20.7% target share, a 24.7% air-yard share, 0.79 YPRR, and a 17.4% first-read share. The problem was simply that he couldn't gain any separation. In Week 1, among 78 qualifying receivers, he ranked 70th in separation and 61st in route win rate. Not good, Bob. Not good at all. Hopefully, better days are ahead for Iosivas once he transitions back to the slot when Tee Higgins returns, but he's a tough player to consider putting in your lineups until he moves back to the slot. Iosivas will run about 73% of his routes against Joshua Williams (2023: 41.4% catch rate and 74.4 passer rating) and Jaylen Watson (2023: 54% catch rate and 104.3 passer rating). Last year, Kansas City allowed the fifth-lowest PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers.

Jaylen Warren Note
Jaylen Warren photo 107. Jaylen Warren RB - PIT (at DEN)
Warren is a player to hold on benches, but it's tough to start him in any format after the workload we saw in Week 1. Warren's snap share was only 31%, as he got only four touches, totaling 20 yards. He might not be fully healthy, as well, as he only managed 1.0 yards after contact per attempt and zero missed tackles forced in Week 1. Those aren't numbers we are used to seeing for Warren.

DeAndre Hopkins Note
DeAndre Hopkins photo 108. DeAndre Hopkins WR - TEN (vs . NYJ)
In Week 1, Hopkins only had a 23% route run rate and one target. That probably ticks up this week, but we can't assume that he will be a full-time player. Add that to a tough matchup against the Jets' secondary, and he's an easy must-sit player for Week 2.

Wan'Dale Robinson Note
Wan'Dale Robinson photo 109. Wan'Dale Robinson WR - NYG (at WAS)
Robinson surprised last week with a 26.2% target share (11 targets), a 33.3% air-yard share, and a 36.4% first-read share. Now, he only finished with 1.38 YPRR (44 receiving yards) with his 5.2 aDOT, but volume is volume, especially in PPR leagues. Robinson was the WR31 in fantasy last week and could out-kick that finish this week. He'll run about 84% of his routes against Mike Sainristill (85.7% catch rate and 139.0 passer rating).

Allen Lazard Note
Allen Lazard photo 110. Allen Lazard WR - NYJ (at TEN)
Lazard popped off for a huge game in Week 1. While we can poke holes in the fantasy finish (WR3), as one of his scores came in garbage time, the usage was fantastic. Lazard had a 90% route share with a 31% target share, a 48.4% air-yard share, 3.18 YPRR, and a 33.3% first-read share. Among 104 qualifying receivers, Lazard ranked ninth in separation and eighth in route win rate. Likely, neither he nor Garrett Wilson will see a shadow from L'Jarius Snead, who followed D.J. Moore on only 53% of his routes in Week 1. Lazard will run about 75% of his routes against Snead (60% catch rate and 77.1 passer rating) and Chidobe Awuzie (50% catch rate and 58.3 passer rating)

Taysom Hill Note
Taysom Hill photo 111. Taysom Hill QB,TE - NO (at DAL)
Hill is the ultimate tight-end dice roll. Last week, he played 32% of the snaps with six touches and 36 total yards. He didn't register a red zone touch or target. I won't rule out Hill finishing as a TE1 in any week, as he managed to do so seven times and was the TE15 in fantasy points per game last year.

Darnell Mooney Note
Darnell Mooney photo 113. Darnell Mooney WR - ATL (at PHI)
Until Kirk Cousins can drive the ball with some decent velocity, I'm staying away from Mooney. Mooney had a 13.0 aDOT in Week 1 and profiles as the team's field stretcher. That's not a role I want to covet with Cousins' current on-field issues. If you have the space to hold him on your bench, do so because this passing attack is incredibly consolidated, and if better days are ahead for the offense, Mooney should benefit. In Week 1, Mooney had an 11.5% target share, a 25.7% air-yard share, and a 17.6% first-read share.

Jalen McMillan Note
Jalen McMillan photo 114. Jalen McMillan WR - TB (at DET)
McMillan was the clear and distant WR3 for the Bucs in Week 1. Tampa Bay utilized him as a deep threat (18.0 aDOT). He had a 65% route run rate with a 10% target share, a 34.4% air-yard share, 1.45 YPRR, and a 12.5% first-read share. This isn't the role we should covet against a Lions' secondary that was 18th in deep completion rate allowed last year and only gave up a 25% deep completion rate in Week 1. If McMillan comes down with a deep shot in Week 2, he could pay off, but it's more unlikely considering the matchup. McMillan will run about 50% of his routes against Terrion Arnold (80% catch rate and 90.4 passer rating) and Carlton Davis (69.2% catch rate and 122.0 passer rating) when on the perimeter in Week 2.

Romeo Doubs Note

Doubs had a 20% target share, a 23.1% air-yard share, 1.67 YPRR, and a 29.2% first-read share in Week 1. Despite the heavy usage, he was the WR48 for the week. Last week, Indy was second in the NFL in Cover 3 rate (52.6%). Last year, Doubs was third among Green Bay's top four wideouts (Watson, Doubs, Reed, & Wicks) in separation and route win rate against Cover 3. He did lead the group in TPRR (24%) against Cover 3, so it could be another heavy usage week without much to show for it for Doubs. Doubs will run about 93% of his routes against Dallis Flowers (61.1% catch rate and 98.1 passer rating) and Jaylon Jones (54.4% catch rate and 106.6 passer rating).

Justice Hill Note
Justice Hill photo 117. Justice Hill RB - BAL (vs . LV)
This doesn't project as a big Hill game unless the Raiders can surprise and keep this game close or take the lead for much of Week 2. Last week, Hill had a 54% snap rate while finishing with seven touches and 55 total yards, with the bulk of that coming through the air. Hill played on 66% of the passing downs while only seeing a 17% snap rate on rushing plays. If Baltimore is able to control this game which is what the current spread projects, Hill won't see the field much. The Raiders did allow the sixth-most receptions to running backs last year, but they also held the position to the seventh-lowest yards per reception. Sit Hill this week.

Colby Parkinson Note
Colby Parkinson photo 118. Colby Parkinson TE - LAR (at ARI)
Parkinson assumed the full-time tight end role for the Rams immediately in Week 1. He had an 84% route run rate with a 10.2% target share, 1.09 YPRR, and an 11.1% first-read share. None of these market share numbers will jump off the page, but he's streamer-worthy this week, considering the matchup with Arizona. The Cards allowed the fourth-highest yards per reception and the second-most receiving touchdowns (tied) to tight ends last year.

Tyler Johnson Note
Tyler Johnson photo 119. Tyler Johnson WR - LAR (at ARI)
Last week, after Puka Nacua left the game (2nd quarter through OT), Johnson had a 21.7% target share, a 12.3% air-yard share (4.4 aDOT), 3.67 YPRR, and a 16.7% first-read share. He posted 79 receiving yards in Week 1, but 63 of those yards came on one play. Among 78 qualifying receivers in Week 1, he was 53rd in separation and 32nd in route win rate. Johnson will have his moments as a starter for the Rams as long as Nacua is out. He should be the clear WR3 for the team. Johnson will run about 85% of his routes against Sean Murphy-Bunting (2023: 65.2% catch rate and 91.9 passer rating) and Starling Thomas (career: 78% catch rate and 139.7 passer rating). Last year, the Cardinals allowed the third-highest PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers. Johnson is a viable flex play for Week 2, especially in deeper formats.

Alec Pierce Note
Alec Pierce photo 120. Alec Pierce WR - IND (at GB)
Pierce erupted in Week 1 with 125 receiving yards and a score as the WR10 in fantasy. He only saw three targets in the game, but in Indy’s run-heavy offense, that amounted to a 15.8% target share with a 36.7% air-yard share. Pierce had an ungodly 38.7 aDOT. If Alexander is following Pittman all over the field, Pierce will match up with Eric Stokes (career: 59.4% catch rate and 98.6 passer rating). Pierce could burn this secondary deep in Week 2. Last year, Green Bay allowed the sixth-highest deep completion rate and the ninth-highest passer rating to deep passing. The worry for Pierce for Week 2 is that if Downs plays, Pierce could split snaps with Mitchell on the perimeter. The Colts’ wide receiver room after Michael Pittman could become an uneasy rotation. Pierce is a dangerous dice roll for Week 2.

Adam Thielen Note
Adam Thielen photo 121. Adam Thielen WR - CAR (vs . LAC)
Until Young displays the ability to support at least one viable fantasy receiver, much less multiple, I won't be starting any receiving options in this Carolina offense outside of Diontae Johnson. Thielen's Week 1 showing doesn't inspire any confidence either. In the first half, before the game got out of hand, he had only an 8.3% target share and a 15.9% air-yard share. In Week 1, among 104 qualifying receivers, he ranked 44th in separation and 77th in route win rate.

Dalton Schultz Note
Dalton Schultz photo 122. Dalton Schultz TE - HOU (vs . CHI)
Schultz didn’t practice on Wednesday or Thursday before getting a full walk-through practice on Friday. He has been listed with no injury designation. In Week 1, he finished as the TE23 with a 9.4% target share, 0.55 YPRR, and a 9.5% first-read share. Chicago was a plus matchup for tight ends last year, allowing the fifth-most fantasy points, the fourth-most receptions, and the sixth-most receiving touchdowns.

Pat Freiermuth Note
Pat Freiermuth photo 123. Pat Freiermuth TE - PIT (at DEN)
Last week Freiermuth finished as the TE13 in fantasy as the rest of the tight ends disappointed. His four receptions and 27 receiving yards line wouldn't have been that high among tight ends in many "normal" weeks. Freiermuth had a 65% route share with a 17.4% target share (only four targets), 1.42 YPRR, and a 22.2% first-read share. These numbers look better than they actually are. The run heavy nature of this offense limits the target volume for everyone not named George Pickens. It will be hard for Freiermuth to be anything more than a touchdown-dependent streamer this season unless this changes, especially with his 3.0 aDOT. The matchup for Freiermuth is good, though, this week, as Denver allowed the most receiving yards and fantasy points to tight ends last year.

Rashod Bateman Note
Rashod Bateman photo 125. Rashod Bateman WR - BAL (vs . LV)
Bateman only saw a 12.2% target share and an 8.7% first-read share in Week 1 as the team's downfield weapon. He did soak up a 23.6 aDOT with a 40.3% air-yard share, which could come in handy this week if you're looking for some sneaky ceiling from your flex. In Week 1, the Raiders utilized single-high on 53.8% of their defensive snaps. Last year, while the counting stats weren't there for Bateman, that doesn't mean he wasn't good against single high. Among 112 qualifying wide receivers, he ranked tenth in separation score and 12th in route win rate. If Lamar Jackson is looking for big plays downfield in Week 2, expect Bateman to be the receiver he turns to. Bateman will run about 90% of his routes against Jakorian Bennett (2023: 65.6% catch rate and 102.3 passer rating) and Jack Jones (2023: 60.6% catch rate and 68.1 passer rating).

Curtis Samuel Note
Curtis Samuel photo 126. Curtis Samuel WR - BUF (at MIA)
Samuel isn't startable until we see his usage trickle up. This is likely related to his turf toe. Samuel only had a 30% route per dropback rate in Week 1, as he ran nine routes. That's not nearly enough playing time to be fantasy-viable. Don't drop him from your rosters, but he's firmly parked on the bench until the snap count improves.

Hunter Henry Note
Hunter Henry photo 129. Hunter Henry TE - NE (vs . SEA)
Henry falls into the low-end matchup-based streaming bucket again for Week 2. Last week, he had an 82% route run rate, a 12.5% target share, a 21.1% air-yard share, the only end zone target for the passing game, and 0.58 YPRR. The biggest concern is Jacoby Brissett wasn't looking for him early in progressions, as he had a minuscule 6.3% first-read share. That could be corrected this week against a secondary that allowed the eighth-highest receiving yards and yards per reception to tight ends last year.
Luke McCaffrey Note
Luke McCaffrey photo 130. Luke McCaffrey WR - WAS (vs . NYG)
McCaffrey isn't viable for fantasy lineups yet after seeing a 60% route run rate last week. He was the designed target/underneath weapon with a -0.3 aDOT, and two of his three targets being the designed variety. He had a 16.7% first-read share.
Tyler Conklin Note
Tyler Conklin photo 131. Tyler Conklin TE - NYJ (at TEN)
Conklin isn't on the streaming radar until he earns more of a market share in this offense or Rodgers starts balling out. Last week he had a 77% route share, but he did relatively nothing with it. He only drew a 6.9% target share (two targets) and a 4.8% first-read share. Tennessee was also stout against tight ends last year, allowing the sixth-fewest receiving yards and the third-fewest fantasy points to the position.

Jaylen Wright Note
Jaylen Wright photo 132. Jaylen Wright RB - MIA (vs . BUF)
Wright could be active for Thursday night even if Achane plays as an emergency back or as a change-of-pace option. Wright is a dice roll flex this week if Achane is out. If Achane is active, then Wright isn't on the fantasy viability radar because his role would be up in the air and could just be a handful of snaps. This preseason, Wright handled 17 carries, which he turned into 91 rushing yards (5.4 ypc). Those numbers look better than his per-touch efficiency. Among 108 preseason rushers, Wright ranked 52nd in yards after contact per attempt and 58th in elusive rating. While those aren't amazing, the reality is Wright has lightning-fast track speed, and if given a crease, he can hit a dinger. Assuming Achane is out, Wright would likely factor in on early downs, with the trusted veteran, Jeff Wilson, handling passing downs and his share of early downs. Wright can take advantage of this Bills' run defense. Buffalo allowed the third-highest explosive run rate in Week 1. Last year, their run defense was the weak link of their defense, giving up the seventh-highest explosive run rate, the fourth-highest yards after contact per attempt, and the 12th-highest yards per carry to gap runs (Preseason: Wright 50% gap).

Cade Otton Note
Cade Otton photo 133. Cade Otton TE - TB (at DET)
Otton is only a low-end matchup-based streaming option. With McMillan in town, Otton has been bumped further down the target pecking order this year. In Week 1, he only had a 6.7% target share and 8.3% first-read share with 0.21 YPRR. If you wedge him into a lineup, you're praying for a touchdown. Last year, Detroit was a good matchup for tight ends, allowing the seventh-most receiving yards, the fifth-highest yards per reception, and the eighth-most fantasy points to the position.

Xavier Legette Note
Xavier Legette photo 134. Xavier Legette WR - CAR (vs . LAC)
Until Young displays the ability to support at least one viable fantasy receiver, much less multiple, I won't be starting any receiving options in this Carolina offense outside of Diontae Johnson. Legette also was splitting the WR3 role in Week 1 with Jonathan Mingo. In the first half, Legette only had a 58.8% route run rate. Young has to prove himself, and Legette has to earn the full-time starting role before we should consider plugging him into a fantasy lineup.

Zach Ertz Note
Zach Ertz photo 135. Zach Ertz TE - WAS (vs . NYG)
Last week, Ertz had a 72.7% route run rate with a 16.7% target share, 1.17 YPRR, and a 22.2% first-read share. He was the WR2 in the Washington offense. There will be weeks that he will have some steaming upside, but this isn't one of them. Last year, New York allowed the 11th-fewest receiving yards and the sixth-fewest fantasy points to tight ends.

Mike Gesicki photo 137. Mike Gesicki TE - CIN (at KC)
Unless Gesicki's route share increases in the Cincy offense, he's not viable in fantasy. In Week 1, he only had a 43% route share. Yes, he did command a 13.8% target share, but efficiency has never been Gesicki's hallmark, and it wasn't in Week 1 (1.20 YPRR). He's droppable at this point.

Fant is an uninspiring TE2 this week. Last week, he had a 68% route run rate with a 16% target share, 0.58 YPRR, one end zone target, and a 16.7% first-read share. New England was tough on tight ends last year, allowing the eighth-lowest yards per reception and second-fewest receiving yards and fantasy points per game.

Juwan Johnson Note
Juwan Johnson photo 144. Juwan Johnson TE - NO (at DAL)
Last week, Johnson got into the end zone and finished as the TE5 in fantasy points per game, but he will not be startable until his usage increases. While he drew a red zone target and successfully converted it last week, the rest of his profile is lacking. Johnson had only a 42.3% route run rate, a 12.5% target share (three targets), and an 11.1% first-read share. None of these usage or market share metrics scream, "I MUST START Juwan Johnson!." Considering the state of the tight end position after one week of NFL action, he's fine to hold on a roster if you have the space, but if you need it for a sexy waiver wire add, I don't mind cutting him from your squad.

Odunze is dealing with a mild MCL sprain. I don't believe Matt Eberflus, as he labels him "day-to-day." Eberflus has a spotty track record at best with injury reports. I expect Odunze to sit for Week 2. He didn't practice on Wednesday or Thursday and was limited on Friday. He has been listed as questionable. Consider that questionable tag to be closer to doubtful.

Okonkwo isn't fantasy-viable despite securing a touchdown last week. He only had a 50% route share, which amounted to a 6.3% target share (two targets) and an 8% first-read share. Levis has to prove he can play better before we should ever consider a part-time tight end/tertiary receiving option in this Titans offense.

Mike Williams Note
Mike Williams photo 151. Mike Williams WR - NYJ (at TEN)
Williams remains only a stash option for the end of benches. In Week 1, he only ran four routes. His playing time will slowly ramp up, but we don't have a concrete timetable for that, so if you have to drop him, I absolutely understand. He's not in consideration for fantasy lineups right now.

Tucker Kraft Note
Tucker Kraft photo 153. Tucker Kraft TE - GB (vs . IND)
I have always been a proud card-carrying member of the Tucker Kraft hive. Despite this, it surprised me that Kraft was Green Bay's clear starter at tight end in Week 1. He had a 56.8% route run rate, an 8.6% target share, 1.76 YPRR, and a 4.2% first-read share. He entered the game banged up, which could also account for the route run rate not being higher. Kraft is a dart throw only, though, this week with Malik Willis under center. The entire passing attack is in question. This is a good matchup for Kraft, though, if Willis can somehow provide competent quarterback play. Last year, Indy allowed the 10th-most receiving yards and fantasy points to tight ends.

Tyler Boyd Note
Tyler Boyd photo 154. Tyler Boyd WR - TEN (vs . NYJ)
It's not worth worrying about Boyd as a flex play this week. Levis has to improve before he can enter the fray of fantasy flex plays. Last week, Boyd had a 15.6% target share, 0.58 YPRR, and a 20% first-read share. Levis has to prove he can support any wide receiver, much less a yawn-inducing slot option like Boyd before we can consider him for lineups. Last year, the Jets allowed the fewest PPR points per target to opposing slot receivers.

Jalen Tolbert Note
Jalen Tolbert photo 161. Jalen Tolbert WR - DAL (vs . NO)
This is an easy matchup to shy away from Tolbert this week. In Week 1, Tolbert only had a 60% route run rate with a 6.3% target share and 10% TPRR. Until he gets a better matchup, more routes, and is able to draw more targets, Tolbert will remain a sit. New Orleans allowed the second-lowest PPR points per target to perimeter wide receivers last year (Week 1 Tolbert 76% on the perimeter).

He managed only three games with weekly fantasy finishes of WR30 or higher. He opened the 2024 season as an afterthought in the Cleveland passing attack with an 11.1% target share, 0.18 YPRR, and an 11.4% first-read share.
