Fantasy Football Player Notes

Week 16 Rankings

Bijan Robinson Note
Bijan Robinson photo 1. Bijan Robinson RB - ATL (at ARI)
One of these seasons, Bijan is going to string together multiple huge performances. Watching his dynamic playmaking ability on Thursday Night Football against the Buccaneers, just reminded everyone why he may be the best running back in the league right now. Finishing the week as a top 5 back, he had 19 carries for 93 yards and a score, along with eight catches on 11 targets for 82 yards. Only behind CMC in targets and receptions at the position, Robinson is primed to stay hot into the fantasy playoffs. This week, he faces the Cardinals, who are allowing the fifth-most fantasy points to the RB position over the last five weeks. This is a great matchup for the superstar RB.

De'Von Achane Note
De'Von Achane photo 2. De'Von Achane RB - MIA (vs . CIN)
Arguably the most consistent RB of the season, Achane has been phenomenal for fantasy. To make it even better, he has the best matchup for fantasy RBs in your fantasy playoffs. The Bengals can not stop anyone. Averaging the most fantasy points to the position both on the season and over the last five weeks, Ahcane should feast. The Dolphins have quietly turned their season around, despite being out of playoff contention for a few weeks now. With their defense stepping up and Mike McDaniels creating great schemes, I would be worried if I saw Achane on the other side of my playoff matchup.

Jahmyr Gibbs Note
Jahmyr Gibbs photo 3. Jahmyr Gibbs RB - DET (vs . PIT)
Since Week 7, Gibbs had alternated a week of 30+ fantasy points with a week below 20. Based on the pattern, last week was supposed to be a huge game for the star RB. Unfortunately, the Rams are the best defense against the back and managed to hold him to 50 total yards. This week, he has another tough matchup, but not nearly as tough as the Rams. The Steelers held the Dolphins' ground game relatively in check last week, with DeVon Achane accumulating 60 rushing yards on 12 attempts. The Steelers are allowing the 10th fewest fantasy points to the position, but this is Jahmyr Gibbs we are talking about. Continue to ride the explosive back with confidence as we come down the fantasy playoff stretch.

James Cook III Note
James Cook III photo 4. James Cook III RB - BUF (at CLE)
For only the second time in his career, Cook graced us with a three-touchdown game to open up the fantasy playoffs. Despite New England being one of the toughest run defenses on the season, Cook tormented them for 107 yards and two scores on the ground, adding a third touchdown in the receiving game. This week, they face the Browns, who look like a terrible matchup on paper. However, since Week 10, the Browns are allowing the 14th fewest fantasy points to the RB position. Although not a phenomenal matchup, the Bills' offense against an average run defense should find a way to Cook (pun intended).
Christian McCaffrey Note
Christian McCaffrey photo 5. Christian McCaffrey RB - SF (at IND)
For the first time since Week 14 of 2023, CMC finished a game with only one target. Much like their match against the Titans last week, this was largely due to his ability to gouge the defence on the ground. Carrying the ball 22 times for 73 yards and a score was a surprisingly modest day at the office for the fantasy RB1. Unfortunately, his next two matchups are against solid run defenses, with the Colts and Bears, who are 11th and 13th in fewest RB fantasy points allowed since Week 10. Either way, CMC is not your average Joe. Whether it is through the air or on the ground, CMC will always find a way through for fantasy.

Saquon Barkley Note
Saquon Barkley photo 6. Saquon Barkley RB - PHI (at WAS)
Barkley might be heating up at the perfect time for anyone who has made it this far with him. Despite producing as a middling RB2 for most of the season, we now have back-to-back RB1 games. In each of his last two games, he has had 20 carries and a score, a combination that had only happened once in the first 13 weeks of the season. To make everything even better, Barkley has the best schedule for RBs down the stretch. With the Commanders twice, sandwiching the Bills, he faces the two teams allowing the sixth and fourth most fantasy points to the RB position over the last five weeks. If you've overcome his down weeks, he should come through for you when it matters most.
Jonathan Taylor Note
Jonathan Taylor photo 7. Jonathan Taylor RB - IND (vs . SF)
Last year, Taylor was abysmal over the start of the season, but became a league winner over the fantasy playoffs. This year, it seems the script was flipped, as he started on a fantasy record-setting pace, but four straight weeks of being the RB19 or worse. Especially with Daniel Jones out for the season, fantasy managers will need to rely on Philip Rivers to move the ball. Thankfully, he did an admirable job against the Seahawks last week, giving Taylor 28 touches. With the 49ers next on the schedule, the Colts should find a way to move the ball against their depleted defense. Unfortunately, he plays the Jaguars in championship week, but we'll cross that bridge when we get there.
Josh Jacobs Note
Josh Jacobs photo 8. Josh Jacobs RB - GB (at CHI)
There are two ways to look at last week's performance by Jacobs. The first is that he faced the Broncos defense, and managed his third-highest fantasy points of the season. However, it was a rollercoaster to get there. Not only was he questionable to play up until Sunday morning, but he also played his second fewest snaps of the season. On top of this, he had his fewest rushing attempts in a full game all season, which is likely an outcome of not being fully healthy. Since this knee injury has been lingering, it is fair to assume he won't be fully healthy for the rest of the season. Despite playing his lowest snaps and receiving his fewest rush attempts in a game, he came through with his longest rushing touchdown of the season (40 yards) and his first receiving touchdown of the season. Together, it was clear that the fantasy gods were smiling down on Jacobs' managers last week. As a result, he is still a must-play in Week 16 against the Bears, but managers would like to see his usage increase to feel confident trusting him as an RB1.
Derrick Henry Note
Derrick Henry photo 9. Derrick Henry RB - BAL (vs . NE)
Playing 37% of snaps and having 11 carries for a crisp 100 rushing yards might be the most Derrick Henry performance of all time. Unfortunately, he did not explode against a brutal Bengals defense, but he still managed to rack up enough yards to help your fantasy week. What is most concerning is that despite a positive game script, he only saw 37% of snaps. In past December games with this script, Henry would be almost guaranteed 30 touches. Instead, we saw Keaton Mitchell involved, carrying the ball eight times for 66 yards. December Derrick may not be what he has been in the past, and now he faces a tough Patriots defense. Even though James Cook exploded for three touchdowns against them last week, they are allowing only 70 rushing yards and 0.4 RB touchdowns per game since Week 10.

Puka Nacua Note
Puka Nacua photo 10. Puka Nacua WR - LAR (at SEA)
Who needs touchdowns when you are getting 11 targets and over 160 yards in each of the last two games? With his only game below 10 fantasy points being the game he didn't finish, Puka is one of the rare elite receivers who has a locked-in floor with huge upside. Coming off weeks of WR1 and WR2 finishes, fantasy managers should feel great going into the playoffs. Having said that, Puka left late last week with an injury. Unfortunately, the Rams have a short week before taking on the Seahawks on Thursday Night. If Puka plays, he is a locked-in WR1 even in a tough matchup. However, managers should have a contingency plan in case he is ruled out.
Ja'Marr Chase Note
Ja'Marr Chase photo 11. Ja'Marr Chase WR - CIN (at MIA)
The Bengals were shut out last week, but Ja'Marr Chase still did Ja'Marr Chase things. Finishing with 10 receptions on 16 targets for 132 yards is yet another great performance for the star wideout. To make things even better, Chase has the Dolphins and Cardinals coming up over the next two weeks. Although the Dolphins have been league average against the receiver position, they lack the individual talent to stop Chase. With Tee Higgins potentially missing another game with a concussion, Chase could go nuclear to close out this fantasy season.
Bucky Irving Note
Bucky Irving photo 12. Bucky Irving RB - TB (at CAR)
Bucky had his first down week since returning from injury in Week 13. Fortunately, his down week was not a result of a decrease in usage, rushing 16 times for 60 yards and playing his most snaps since his return. Unfortunately, in a competitive game against the Falcons, the Bucs relied heavily on Baker Mayfield feeding his fully healthy arsenal of receivers. This week, the Bucs have the first of two huge games against the Panthers. Since Week 10, the Panthers have allowed the tenth most fantasy points to the position. Despite splitting work, Bucky is a low-end RB1 this week in a positive matchup.

Jaxon Smith-Njigba Note
Jaxon Smith-Njigba photo 13. Jaxon Smith-Njigba WR - SEA (vs . LAR)
For the ninth time this season, JSN cracked 100 yards in a game. In fact, he has 12 games with more than 90 yards. Wild. In what has been one of the best receiver seasons of the decade, JSn continues to find ways to be a league winner. This week, the Seahawks have a very important game against the Rams on Thursday Night. With the Rams potentially missing both Davante Adams and Puka Nacua, it will be an interesting defensive battle. On the season, the Rams are allowing the 10th most fantasy points to opposing wideouts. They'll likely have a plan to try and slow down JSN, but the last time they met, he still had nine catches for 105 yards.
Nico Collins Note
Nico Collins photo 14. Nico Collins WR - HOU (vs . LV)
Despite being held to three catches, Collins came through for fantasy managers. On the opening drive, he took a 51-yard reception to the house, and later scored in garbage time to finish with 85 yards and two scores on the day. The Texans have been rolling, and with their elite defense, as long as Stroud continues to play turnover-free ball, they could make a run. On offense, they rely heavily on Collins and some semblance of running game. With three straght weeks finising as the WR14 or better, Collins now faces an abysmal Raiders secondary. The only concern is that the Texans' defense will swarm the Raiders' offense. In fact, the Texans' defense could probably win this game without their offense taking a single snap. As a result, there is a world where targets are at a premium once again. However, if they need to move the chains, Collins will be the g- to target.
TreVeyon Henderson Note
TreVeyon Henderson photo 15. TreVeyon Henderson RB - NE (at BAL)
Henderson might be having one of the most head-scratching seasons for a fantasy running back. Despite having three games with 27 or more fantasy points, he does not have a game between 12 and 26 fantasy points all season. Ultimately, he is the definition of a boom-bust player this season. One thing is clear, and that is his ability to spring big plays. Finishing with 14 carries for 148 yards and two scores, was electric last week. Unfortunately, Rhamondre Stevenson was heavily involved for most of the game as well. If you have made the playoffs with Henderson, his highs are too high to bench, but he is unlikely to score more than 12 fantasy points unless he explodes again. It's a risk, but the Ravens' defense this week is not the scariest. Hopefully, you are relying on him in your flex, and not as your locked-in RB1 this week.
Travis Etienne Jr. Note
Travis Etienne Jr. photo 16. Travis Etienne Jr. RB - JAC (at DEN)
For the sixth time in the last seven weeks, Etienne has finished as a top 12 RB on the week. His three-touchdown performance overshadowed his abysmal 12 carries for 32 yards on the ground last week. Instead, he made his hay with three receptions that all went for touchdowns and combined for 73 yards. With Bayshul Tuten set to miss the next few weeks after receiving surgery on his finger, Etienne is one of the true bell cow RBs down the stretch. Unfortunately, the stretch starts with a tough matchup against the Broncos. Although Jacobs found success on limited work last week against the Broncos, they are allowing the eighth-fewest fantasy points to the position since Week 10.

Kyren Williams Note
Kyren Williams photo 17. Kyren Williams RB - LAR (at SEA)
Amon-Ra St. Brown Note
Amon-Ra St. Brown photo 18. Amon-Ra St. Brown WR - DET (vs . PIT)
Playing through an ankle injury he suffered on Thanksgiving, ARSB has 19 catches, 256 yards and two scores over his last two games. Emphasized by his 164 yards and two scores last week, ARSB is locked in as a fantasy difference maker at the position. This week, he faces the Steelers, who are allowing the ninth most fantasy points to opposing wideouts on the season. Last week, the Steelers shut down Jaylen Waddle, holding him to two catches for 26 yards. ARSB is a far superior player, and the Lions are a better offense, but it's not the best matchup this week against a Steelers team that will want to control the game and lean on their defense. That said, ARSB is a star and remains a top-end WR option.

D'Andre Swift Note
D'Andre Swift photo 20. D'Andre Swift RB - CHI (vs . GB)
Mike Evans Note
Mike Evans photo 21. Mike Evans WR - TB (at CAR)
The Hall of Fame receiver is back and came out swinging against the Falcons. Even though he played limited snaps, his six receptions for 132 yards were more than double the yards of the next receiver. Even in a loss, it was clear that Baker Mayfield missed his big-bodied target down the field. This week, they have their first of two huge games against the Panthers to close out the season. The Panthers have been trying to take over the division, but continue to get in their own way. That said, they have been solid against opposing wideouts all season, averaging the 11th fewest fantasy points to the position, and the ninth fewest receiver points in the red zone. Seeing what Evans did in his return, he is once again a low-end WR1, even in a difficult matchup.

Chase Brown Note
Chase Brown photo 22. Chase Brown RB - CIN (at MIA)
CeeDee Lamb Note
CeeDee Lamb photo 23. CeeDee Lamb WR - DAL (vs . LAC)
Back from his concussion in Week 14, Lamb casually put up his third straight 110+ yard performance. With at least six receptions in each of his last three games, Lamb is one of the steadiest receivers heading into the fantasy playoffs. Unfortunately, the Cowboys take on a Chargers' team that has been the best defense against opposing wide receivers all season. Averaging the fewest fantasy points per game at the position, even the high-flying Cowboys may have trouble moving the ball through the air. Either way, coming off a tough loss to the Vikings, the Cowboys' defense will force Dak Prescott to throw to keep them in the game. As a result, he may have a lower ceiling than usual, but Lamb is still a fantasy stalwart this week.

Jameson Williams Note
Jameson Williams photo 26. Jameson Williams WR - DET (vs . PIT)
There has been a true chicken-or-egg controversy with Jamo's increased production. With Dan Campbell calling plays and Sam Laporta being out for the season, it's hard to know which has led to Jamo's increased fantasy production. Thankfully, it doesn't matter the reasoning; all that matters is that he has been great over the last few weeks. With seven receptions and over 100 yards in each of his last three games, the boom or bust receiver has been impressively consistent. In fact, if you remove his two zero-point outings, he has seven straight weeks as a top 15 receiver. Ofcourse, the two zeros came out of nowhere, and you never know if it will happen again. However, they play the Steelers, who allow the ninth most fantasy points to receivers over the last six weeks. Continue to stay in the flames with Jamo, and just hope he doesn't have another goose-egg down the stretch.

A.J. Brown Note
A.J. Brown photo 27. A.J. Brown WR - PHI (at WAS)
He may have lost his streak of 100-yard games, but his 27-yard touchdown saved fantasy managers last week. Despite only having two targets and two receptions, the star wideout continued his streak of decent fantasy finishes. Just in time for the fantasy playoffs, Brown has arguably the best matchup for receivers in Week 15. Although the Commanders are only allowing the seventh most fantasy points to opposing wideouts, we have seen them be lit up by multiple weapons. In his two games against the Commanders last year, Brown combined for 23 targets, 13 receptions, 162 yards, and a score. With all the weapons on the Eagles, it's hard to know who is going to get home, but Brown has a great chance for a good game in Week 15.
Michael Wilson Note
Michael Wilson photo 28. Michael Wilson WR - ARI (vs . ATL)
Despite being outmatched against the Texans' defense, Michael Wilson managed to come through with 54 yards and a score. Considering he had 11 targets, fantasy managers may have expected more, but this Texans defense is incredible. Thankfully, Wilson has a better matchup against the Falcons in Week 15. Last week, Buccaneers' receivers combined for 234 yards against the Falcons. On the season, they are allowing the seventh most fantasy points to the receiver position. It's going to be fascinating to see Wilson's usage once Marvin Harrison Jr. returns, but until then, Wilson remains a low-end WR1.

George Kittle Note
George Kittle photo 31. George Kittle TE - SF (at IND)
George Kittle is back to doing Kittle things. With four receptions in every game he has played but one, not only does he have a consistent fantasy floor, but he is back to being a fantasy difference maker. With a top 8 finish in six games of his eight games, and 60 or more yards in five consecutive games, he is the second-best fantasy option behind only Trey McBride. Even though the Colts are averaging the fifth-fewest fantasy points to the TE position over the last five weeks, Kittle remains a great option. If you have managed to hang onto Kittle in the fantasy playoffs, feel confident in riding him the rest of the way.

Trey McBride Note
Trey McBride photo 35. Trey McBride TE - ARI (vs . ATL)
You may think you know that McBride is having a good year, but here are a few stats that put his performance in perspective. Currently, McBride has 41 more targets, 28 more receptions, and 274 more yards than the next highest TEs. The gap in fantasy points between McBride and the next best fantasy TE (Travis Kelce) is equivalent to the gap between Kelce and the TE 25 (Darren Waller). As a result, the fact that he plays the Falcons this week shouldn't matter. Even though the Falcons have been the third-best defense against fantasy TEs on the season, they drop to the 12th-fewest over the last five weeks. Don't worry about any of that. McBride is a true fantasy X factor this year.

DK Metcalf Note
DK Metcalf photo 36. DK Metcalf WR - PIT (at DET)
Jaylen Waddle Note
Jaylen Waddle photo 37. Jaylen Waddle WR - MIA (vs . CIN)
Despite being the top target for almost all of the season, Waddle has been fairly underwhelming for fantasy. Over the last four games, he has not had more than 52 receiving yards in any game and has only one touchdown. This week, they face the Bengals, who have one good player on defense. Unfortunately, that one good player is a corner who has shut down some of the league's best wide receivers. With Waddle as the clear WR1 on this team, he should get the full Turner treatment. As a result, Waddle is a tough player to trust in the fantasy playoffs. You likely don't have a better option, especially with the Bengals potentially making this a shootout. However, Waddle may not be the "set it and forget it" option this week.

Who would've thought that Tyler Shough and Chris Olave would be the only two bright spots for the Saints this season? Well, that and Brandon Staley coaching a great defense. Sitting as the WR8 on the season, Olave has been nothing but consistent all season. With the fourth most targets and fifth most receptions, Olave has volumed his way to being the WR8 on the season. This week, they face the Jets. The Jets are not the same without Sauce Gardner and Quinnen Williams, allowing five passing touchdowns to Trevor Lawrence last week. As the best option on their offense, Olave should find a way to at least 10 fantasy points, with a great chance at finding the endzone for the second consecutive week.

Kyle Pitts scored 7% of his career fantasy points last Thursday Night against the Buccaneers. He also scored 28% of his career touchdowns last week. All these points define what it means to have an outlier game. Having said that, in the absence of Drake London, Pitts has taken a step forward for his fantasy production. Although early in the week, it appears that the Falcons are hoping to have London back against the Cardinals. If he does return, Pitts' managers will be left in Limbo, wondering the impact of his involvement. That said, with the stretch of games Pitts is on, he is locked into all lineups.

Brock Bowers Note
Brock Bowers photo 63. Brock Bowers TE - LV (at HOU)
This has been the tale of Bowers' season all year. With the Raiders as a team holding him back, he is a name that is cemented into your lineups, despite having a low floor. Thankfully, he has overcome his situation with a top 10 finish in five of the last seven games. However, in the other two games, he finished outside of the top 20 at the position. Last week, with Kenny Pickett under center, he had one of those weeks outside the top 20. With their QB for Week 16 still uncertain, managers need to hope Geno Smith can return for a very difficult game against the Texans. On the season, the Texans are allowing the eighth fewest fantasy points to the position. Having said that, they just allowed 134 yards and two scores to Trey McBride. I'm not going to be the one to tell you to bench Bowers in the fantasy playoffs, but I also wouldn't be the one chastizing you for doing so. All I ask, it consider what other options are available before locking him into your lineup for the biggest week of the season so far.

Usually, I don't have an issue sharing my opinion on who to start in these outlooks. However, I'm going to make a point of leaving this call up to you and providing all the information you need. Goedert has had a good season overall; however, it has been dominated by feast or famine. With six weeks inside the top eight at the position, and seven weeks outside of the top 15 (four outside the top 30), it's been hard to predict. Thankfully, we have two straight weeks of 70 plus yard games, along with two goalline scores last week. That said, he failed to score over 6.5 fantasy points between Weeks 10 and 13. This week, he faces the Commanders, who are allowing the sixth most fantasy points to the TE position over the last five weeks. There is enough evidence to ride the hot hand into a great matchup this week, but I also wouldn't blame you for starting a more reliable option.

Harold Fannin Jr. photo 88. Harold Fannin Jr. TE - CLE (vs . BUF)
Harold Fannin Jr. is second at the position in targets. I'll be honest, that shocked me. The rookie TE/fullback/hybrid has been awesome to watch this season. The Browns have been using him all over their offense, ultimately overtaking David Njoku. With Njoku now injured, Fannin has seen 11 and 14 targets in each of hi slast two games. Although this only led to seven receptions for 48 yards last week, it's elite volume at the position. Unfortunately, he faces the Bills this week who have been lethal against fantasy TEs. Averaging the fewest fantasy points to the TE position, and the fewest passing yards per game, it might be a long day for Fannin and Shedeur Sanders. With his volume, you can continue to roll him out there, but other options are worth considering in this matchup. Also, monitor Njoku's health throughout the week.
