Ben Sinnott is listed as the TE3 for the Washington Commanders on their unofficial depth chart. (Source: Zach Selby)
Fantasy Impact: The Commanders used a second-round pick on Sinnott in the 2024 NFL Draft, but he hasn't earned the starting job for himself on this offense. In fact, he's currently listed as the third-string TE rather than even the backup. He still has time to win a role for himself in the preseason, but if this doesn't change, his rookie year likely won't amount to much for fantasy purposes.
Jonathan Mingo is slotted in as a starter on Carolina's unofficial depth chart. (Source: Carolina Panthers)
Fantasy Impact: Mingo had a disappointing rookie campaign in 2023, but it looks like he will still get opportunities this year. He's currently listed as a starter prior to Carolina's first preseason game, although that's subject to change prior to the start of the season. Unless he takes a big step up from a talent perspective this year, fantasy managers shouldn't be expecting him to have much value in most league formats.
Xavier Legette is listed as a backup on Carolina's unofficial depth chart. (Source: Carolina Panthers)
Fantasy Impact: The Panthers recently released their unofficial depth chart ahead of their first preseason game against the Patriots this week, and it included Legette in the backup wide receiver slot. His role is subject to change over the rest of the preseason, but his momentum to claim a starting spot may be hindered by the foot injury that he's currently dealing with.
Jamaal Williams has been getting some reps with New Orleans' first-team offense. (Source: Erin Summers on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Williams is an afterthought for fantasy purposes after a disappointing 2023 campaign, but it appears that he may still have a solid role on this offense. He has been seen mixing in with the first team at times during camp, and it's possible that he could claim the short-yardage and goal line roles on the offense. This is bad news for Kendre Miller, who has gained some hype this offseason as a potential breakout candidate.
Braelon Allen is trending towards winning the RB2 job for the Jets this season. (Source: New York Jets)
Fantasy Impact: Allen, a fourth-round pick in the 2024 NFL Draft, has been competing for the RB2 job behind Breece Hall throughout Jets' training camp so far. It appears that he's the leading candidate for the job, as the team has officially listed him as the RB2 on their unofficial depth chart. This is subject to change before the start of the season, but for now, it looks like he's earning a real role for himself on New York's offense.
Giants rookie Tyrone Tracy Jr. appears to have the early edge over Eric Gray and Dante Miller in the training-camp battle to be the primary backup to Devin Singletary. (Source: NYPost.com)
Fantasy Impact: Tracy entered college as a wide receiver before he moved to running back. “Wherever they use me, I’m going to try to do it to the best of my ability,” Tracy said. “But with all the short-yardage stuff — whether that’s a hitch or backs [coming] out of the backfield — I think that’s a little to my advantage because of my background." Singletary will open the season as the lead back, but Tracy could be a player to take a flier on in the last round of fantasy drafts or at least is someone to monitor on the waiver wire early in the season.
The Philadelphia Eagles have consistently been giving rookie WR Johnny Wilson snaps with their first-team offense as a WR3. (Source: Brandon Lee Gowton on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: According to Zach Berman of PHLY, head coach Nick Sirianni mentioned Wilson as a contender for the team's WR3 role, though he also brought up WRs Parris Campbell, John Ross and Britain Covey. Ross has also been reported to be receiving first-team snaps, but Berman said Wilson's snaps are not just "camp rotation-type" reps and that "he's in the mix." Wilson could see action in Year 1, but the Eagles may also be a WR3-by-committee team again in 2024.
Jarvis Landry worked out for the New York Jets on Thursday. Landry last played in 2022 for the New Orleans. (Source: Ari Meirov on X)
Fantasy Impact: Landry's first several years in the league were met with marked success; however, he has been marred with injuries the last few years and was not on a roster during the 2023-2024 season. Landry will look to add a veteran presence to any wide receiver room that he may join.
Marvin Harrison Jr. is expected to see some action in the preseason. (Source: Theo Mackie)
Fantasy Impact: Some teams opt to let their starters sit for most of the preseason, but it seems like the Cardinals are planning on letting Harrison play. HC Jonathan Gannon said “I think he needs to get out there and play,” so it's reasonable to expect that we'll see at least a good bit of on-field action from him in the coming weeks.
Easton Stick will be taking over as Los Angeles' QB1 for the foreseeable future. (Source: Daniel Popper on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Justin Herbert was recently diagnosed with some kind of a foot injury that will force him to be sidelined for several weeks. While he's out, the Chargers are planning on slotting Easton Stick into the QB1 role. He played it for a little bit at the end of last season, but right now it's not looking like this substitution is going to last all the way to the start of the regular season.
Dyami Brown has been impressive in several areas of the game at Washington's training camp. (Source: Zach Selby on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: HC Dan Quinn gave praise to Brown recently, suggesting that he has been impressive in several different areas of the game throughout camp so far. He seems like a safe bet to win the WR3 job prior to the start of the season, but fantasy managers should continue to monitor his performance at camp and in the preseason over the next few weeks.
Davis Allen is expected to be Los Angeles' TE2 heading into the start of the season. (Source: Cameron DaSilva)
Fantasy Impact: With Tyler Higbee likely to open the season on the PUP list, Allen will get a chance to see the field a good amount in 2024. He isn't expected to take the starting job from Colby Parkinson, but he seems to be beating out Hunter Long for the TE2 spot by a good amount. Despite that, he isn't likely to see enough work to be a consistent fantasy option this season.
Demarcus Robinson is expected to secure the WR3 role for the Los Angeles Rams. (Source: Cameron DaSilva)
Fantasy Impact: Robinson emerged as a quality depth piece over the back half of last season, and it looks like the team wants to get him more involved in 2024. He reportedly has been a 'star' at training camp this year and is squarely ahead of Tutu Atwell for the WR3 role on this offense. He could have week-to-week streaming value in this role, especially if either Cooper Kupp or Puka Nacua has to miss any time this season.
Minnesota Vikings rookie QB J.J. McCarthy has not yet taken reps with Minnesota's first-team offense. (Source: Alec Lewis, The Athletic)
Fantasy Impact: This should not be taken as an indictment of McCarthy as free agent veteran acquisition Sam Darnold has been a standout in Vikings camp this offseason. He looks like the early favorite to start over the rookie, who HC Kevin O'Connell said is continuing to work on progress and not perfection. McCarthy is still working his way toward becoming the team's franchise QB, but he is not quite there yet.
Cincinnati Bengals head coach Zac Taylor said the team is considering playing its starters in Week 1 of the preseason, though he said it is not "set in stone." (Source: Kelsey Conway on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: The Bengals didn't play their starters in the preseason in 2023 under Zac Taylor. However, with Joe Burrow having been unable to play in the last couple of preseasons and the Bengals starting slowly the last couple of years, a change of philosophy could be underway. While it is not official that they will play, Taylor may let his first team play in the first game on Aug. 10, though it likely won't be more than a couple of drives.
The Pittsburgh Steelers are giving QB John Rhys Plumlee opportunities as a kick returner on Thursday under the new kick return format. (Source: Brooke Pryor on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: After signing with Pittsburgh as an undrafted free agent, there was some talk that Plumlee could move over to wide receiver. The former UCF QB is known for his dynamism as an athlete, but he was a work in progress as a passer, which could potentially lend to him seeing more action in other roles.
New England Patriots WR Javon Baker was seeing some work with the punt coverage team on Thursday as a gunner and on the line of scrimmage. (Source: Chris Mason on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: It should be no concern that Baker is seeing time with the special teams unit, as most rookies do. He has still been getting work with the offense as well. Baker has a chance to push for a role as the team's outside receiver as a rookie, and special teams snaps give him more time to perform in front of coaches.
Second-year WR Dontayvion Wicks is part of a four-man rotation in Green Bay out wide with no clear "rotation or starters;" he is competing with WRs Romeo Doubs, Jayden Reed and Christian Watson for snaps. (Source: Andy Herman on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: This is about what was expected as the Packers have a versatile four-player corps of receivers who are all more than talented enough to warrant a solid snap rate. As a result, this is becoming one of the most confusing receiver crews to invest in due to the uncertainty. Wicks (half-PPR ADP WR66) came on late in the season as a versatile pass-catcher, and Reed (WR34) showed his ability as a RAC and schemed-touch weapon as a rookie. Watson (WR44) is a deep-ball and explosive-play threat while Doubs (WR55) is a solid outside receiver and a red-zone threat. Ultimately, all four receivers may be relevant in fantasy in 2024.
Joshua Palmer is running with the first team at camp and will likely start for the Chargers this year. (Source: Daniel Popper on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: As expected, it looks like Palmer is going to be one of Los Angeles' starting receivers this year. He has been part of the first-team trio consistently this offseason, and barring anything unforeseen happening, he should have a starting spot pretty well locked in. It remains to be seen if that will lead to strong fantasy output from him, but either way he's a high-upside pick in the later rounds of fantasy drafts.
Quentin Johnston is trending towards not being a starter for the Los Angeles Chargers. (Source: Daniel Popper on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: HC Jim Harbaugh has praised Johnston at various points this offseason, but it doesn't look like he is going to win a starting spot on the team this year. It's possible that he will be part of a rotation, but it's being reported that he is not part of the primary wide receiver trio for the first-team offense at camp. He's coming off of a disappointing rookie campaign in 2023, and if he doesn't impress over the rest of camp or in the preseason, we could see him end up being a non-factor for the Chargers this season.
