Latest Injury News

Bryan Rust (upper-body) has been activated from long-term injured reserve Tuesday by the Pittsburgh Penguins. (Source: Wes Crosby on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Rust returns to the Pittsburgh lineup for head coach Mike Sullivan ahead of Tuesday night’s contest against the Washington Capitals and should return to his second-line duties as well as his role on the second power-play unit against Washington netminder Darcy Kuemper.

Kirill Kaprizov (upper-body) is considered week-to-week by the Minnesota Wild according to the club. (Source: Minnesota Wild PR on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Kaprizov suffered the injury in Saturday’s 4-2 loss to the Winnipeg Jets. The club will exercise caution with their star sniper, who has tallied 34 points (13 goals, 21 assists) in 34 games so far this season. Marcus Johansson will likely fill Kaprizov’s role on Minnesota’s top forward line until he is able to return.

Filip Gustavsson (lower body) has been placed on injured reserve by the Minnesota Wild according to the club. (Source: Minnesota Wild PR on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Gustavsson will undergo an MRI Tuesday and is currently considered week-to-week according to the club. In the netminder’s absence, fantasy managers can expect Marc-Andre Fleury to receive the majority of starts between the pipes, with Zane McIntyre serving as the team’s backup. Gustavsson currently carries a .903 save percentage and 2.95 GAA in 22 appearances (10-9-2) in the crease this season for the Wild.

Thomas Novak (upper body) has been placed on injured reserve by the Nashville Predators according to the organization. (Source: Nashville Predators on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Novak will miss four-to-six weeks while recovering from the upper body injury. The center was off to another strong start for the Predators, tallying 12 points (six goals, six assists) including six power-play points in 14 contests so far this season. Michael McCarron should see an increased role for head coach Andrew Brunette until Novak returns.

Sean Couturier (lower body) has been ruled out by the Philadelphia Flyers ahead of Saturday night’s contest against the Los Angeles Kings. (Source: Charlie O’Connor on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Couturier will sit out for a second consecutive contest for the Flyers, with forward Scott Laughton to likely once again see increased ice time Saturday night against the Kings.

Jake Guentzel (ankle) will play for the Pittsburgh Penguins in their season opener against the Chicago Blackhawks Tuesday night. (Source: Wes Crosby on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Guentzel was originally slated to be sidelined throughout October for the Penguins, but the left wing was able to pass through multiple tests on the ice Tuesday morning for head coach Mike Sullivan. Expect Guentzel to reclaim his spot on the top forward line while also slotting onto the No. 1 power play unit against the Blackhawks Tuesday night.

Alex Killorn (finger) will miss four-to-six weeks the Anaheim Ducks announced Saturday. (Source: Frank Seravalli on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Killorn suffered the fractured finger during Wednesday night’s preseason contest, and will now miss extended time after signing a four-year deal with the Ducks in the offseason. Frank Vatrano will likely see an increase in playing time while Killorn remains out.

Tampa Bay Lightning goaltender Andrei Vasilevskiy will miss the next 8-10 weeks after undergoing back surgery Thursday morning. (Source: Tamp Bay Lightning on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Of course, this is a significant blow to the Bolts as the six-time All-Star is the backbone of their team. Vasilevskiy has not only put up a career 2.52 GAA and .919 Sv% across 425 regular-season appearances, he has started at least 60 games in three of the last non-COVID seasons. Next up in line in goal for Tampa Bay -- barring a move -- is Jonas Johansson who owns a career 3.32 GAA and .887 Sv% across just 35 NHL appearances.

Jake Neighbours sustained an upper-body injury in the first period of the Blues 7-2 loss to Ottawa. He did not return to action and St. Louis' head coach Craig Berube stated "he's probably out a while."

Fantasy Impact: This season in 30 games, Neighbours has scored four goals and has four assists with a minus-17 rating.

Andre Burakovsky left the game versus the New York Islanders after just one shift due to a lower-body injury. There was no further update. (Source: NHL.com)

Fantasy Impact: Hopefully, the injury won't keep Burakovsky sidelined for long as the Kraken sit firmly in a playoff spot in the Western Conference. This season in 49 games he has 13 goals and 26 assists.

Vegas Golden Knights forward Mark Stone has undergone back surgery and is out indefinitely. (Source: Jesse Granger on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The news is a major blow for a Vegas team that's struggled to stay healthy this season. Stone's regular season is certainly now in jeopardy as the Knights battle for playoff spots in the Pacific Division. One of the league's premier two-way forwards, Stone recorded 17 goals and 38 points in 43 games for the season. The club could be able to place him on long-term injured reserve to afford some trade-deadline reinforcement for a playoff push.

Cole Caufield (shoulder) will miss the remainder of the season for the Montreal Canadiens. (Source: Chris Johnston on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Caufield being ruled out for the rest of the season is a devastating blow to a Montreal squad struggling to generate offense on a more consistent basis with the talented forward out of the lineup. Caufield will finish the season with 36 points (26 goals, 10 assists) in 46 games for the Canadiens and will to be ready ahead of the 2023-24 season for fantasy owners.

Chris Kreider (upper body) has been ruled out by the New York Rangers ahead of the team’s home contest against the Montreal Canadiens Sunday. (Source: Renaud Lavoie on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Kreider will miss his second consecutive game for the Rangers as the forward hopes to be able to practice soon, especially with the Rangers in action again Monday against the Columbus Blue Jackets.

Tyler Bertuzzi (upper-body) is set to return to the lineup Tuesday according to Red Wings head coach Derek Lalonde. (Source: Detroit Red Wings on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Bertuzzi has struggled with injuries over the past year for the Red Wings and provides an immediate boost when in the lineup for Detroit. The dynamic forward will slot onto the club’s top line alongside captain Dylan Larkin and should make an instant impact for fantasy owners.

The Pittsburgh Penguins announced that defenseman Kris Letang will be out indefinitely after suffering a stroke Monday. (Source: Penguins on Twitter )

Fantasy Impact: Letang is reportedly not experiencing any lasting effects from the stroke and will continue to undergo tests over the next week. Hopefully Letang is able to make a full recovery and return to the ice when healthy.

Teuvo Teravainen added two assists in the 7-2 win over the Oilers before departing with an upper-body injury, according to North State Journal writer Cory Lavalette on Twitter.

Fantasy Impact: Teravainen seemed to be getting his groove back with four assists in his last four games, so here is hoping this injury is nothing major. Apparently it was a tweak and Teravainen cautiously took himself out. Seven assists in his first fourteen games is not what those that roster him signed up for, but his play of late has him trending up. Hopefully he can avoid time away with the injury and get back into the swing of things.

Florida Panthers defenseman Aaron Ekblad is expected to return to the lineup Saturday versus the Edmonton Oilers. (Source: Florida Panthers on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Ekblad has been out of action since suffering a lower-body injury Oct. 17 against the Boston Bruins, missing 10 games as a result. The 26-year-old tallied one goal in three games prior to the injury with seven shots, four penalty minutes, and a plus-one rating as well. Despite the lukewarm start, Ekblad should return as one of the premium fantasy defenders the league has to offer on the heels of a 15-goal, 57-point campaign across 61 contests.

The Anaheim Ducks announced Monday that defenseman Jamie Drysdale will miss 4-6 months with a torn labrum. (Source: Anaheim Ducks on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: It's a significant blow for a young player that carries solid fantasy upside moving forward. The 20-year-old former first-rounder was without a point in eight games so far this season but collected a healthy 32 points in 81 games as a 19-year-old rookie last season. Needless to say, he'll be hard-pressed to get back into the lineup this season.

Dallas Stars goaltender Jake Oettinger will be out at least a week with a lower-body injury before being re-evaluated. (Source: Brien Rea on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: Oettinger was injured during the second period of Saturday's game against New York and will miss at least a week's worth of action as a result. It's a massive blow for the Stars as Oettinger was off to a white-hot start, turning in a league-best 1.40 GAA along with a .952 SV% in seven appearances. Due to salary cap constraints, the Stars will need to bring up someone other than Anton Khudobin from the AHL in Oettinger's stead while Scott Wedgewood will take over the No. 1 spot for the time being.

Washington Capitals forward T.J. Oshie is out indefinitely due to a lower-body injury. (Source: Tom Gulitti on Twitter)

Fantasy Impact: The injuries continue to pile up for the Capitals as it was also announced that John Carlson won't play Monday due to a lower-body injury of his own. The club is also without Nicklas Backstrom, Tom Wilson, Carl Hagelin, and Connor Brown up front. Oshie collected two goals and five points with 12 shots across nine games on the season while he's failed to play in more than 69 games in each of the last four seasons.
