Carson Smith will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery Wednesday, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports.

Smith came into the season finally healthy and was a good add in fantasy leagues with the hold category. Unfortunately, Smith hurt his shoulder in the dugout in May and now will have another lost season. Fantasy owners should be moving on from Smith.

Carson Smith was placed on the 10-day disabled list Tuesday with a right shoulder subluxation, Rob Bradford of WEEI.com reports. Smith injured his arm after throwing his glove in the dugout following his outing against the Athletics on Monday.

Early reports are that Smith could be out awhile with this shoulder injury. The 28-year-old reliever was a good player to own in fantasy leagues with holds. But with this extended absence there is no need to stash him.

The Red Sox are hoping for a return of mid-June for Smith. He will be a boost to the bullpen and while he won't be able to supplant current closer Craig Kimbrel he will be in a position to acquire holds. He is a good add in any fantasy leagues that value the holds category.
