Bryan Bickell skates in first NHL game since Jan. 8

Due to injuries to veteran forwards Marian Hossa, Andrew Shaw and Artem Anisimov, the Blackhawks recalled Bryan Bickell from AHL Rockford. He skated in his first game since Jan. 8 and saw 9:11 TOI in Friday's 2-1 OT loss to St. Louis.

Fantasy Impact

The 30-year-old LW added 15 goals and 16 assists in 44 AHL games. This game marked his 24th in the NHL this season with Chicago where he has two assists. Don't expect Bickell to be active in the playoffs, but he should be kept on the postseason roster for emergency situations like this.

Bryan Bickell clears waivers; stays with Blackhawks

After being placed on waivers by the Chicago Blackhawks on Friday, F Bryan Bickell wasn't claimed by any other NHL squad, so he'll remain with the Blackhawks. Bickell isn't expected to be reassigned to the Blackhawks' AHL affiliate, the Rockford IceHogs, according to ESPN's source.

Fantasy Impact

"To be put on [waivers] and clear, it's kind of deflating, but I get some spark here and say I'm still here and looking forward to play tonight and prove myself. I want to be a Blackhawk forever and [it's a] second opportunity," he said. It appears Bickell will be getting just that as he will be active for Sunday's preseason finale. Chicago is stuck with him, so now they just need to figure out how they can use him effectively.

Bryan Bickell placed on waivers by Blackhawks

Earlier Friday, the Chicago Blackhawks placed 29-year-old forward Bryan Bickell on waivers. After a nine-goal postseason in 2013, the Hawks rewarded him with a four-year with an average annual salary of $4 million.

Fantasy Impact

Bickell scored 14 goals and added 14 assists last season. In the playoffs, he notched no goals and added five assists as he battled a case of vertigo. If he clears waivers, he would be assigned to Chicago's AHL affiliate Rockford. That move would save the Hawks $950,000 in cap space. They are already eating $8 million over the next two years by waiving him. After no willing trade partners, the Blackhawks were forced to find a way out of their own bad contract they handed out to Bickell.
