Week 16 Outlook
Availability
While it was initially thought that the Cowboys cut ties with RB Ryan Williams, the team has announced that they have placed him on season-ending IR. He is again dealing with a knee injury.
Fantasy Impact
While he hasn't been released, this latest injury could still signal the end of Williams' career. A once highly-touted RB, injuries have greatly diminished Williams' value.
The Dallas Cowboys have released RB Ryan Williams.
Fantasy Impact
It's a sad day for the once promising RB who the Arizona Cardinals selected with a 2nd round pick in the 2011 NFL Draft. Williams was never the same after rupturing his patellar tendon in his rookie training camp, and since joining Dallas has been in the training room more than the practice field. It's hard to imagine Williams getting another shot considering the amount of healthy talent on the market, not to mention Dallas replaced him by signing UDFA RB Gus Johnson.
According to ESPN's Todd Archer, the Cowboys may leave Ryan Williams off the 53-man roster.
Fantasy Impact
He'll be on the roster bubble after suffering knee swelling during OTAs and minicamp. The three back most likely to make the team at this point are Joseph Randle, Darren McFadden and Lance Dunbar.
Ryan Williams has only played five NFL games in his four NFL seasons, but he could be a huge part of the Cowboys plans for 2015. DeMarco Murray may leave in free agency, Joseph Randle is questionable with legal trouble, and a draft pick is very uncertain; Williams may have the opportunity of his life right in front of him. Williams, still only 24 years old, was the leading rusher for the Cowboys in the preseason of 2014 and a former second round pick by the Arizona Cardinals.
Fantasy Impact
Williams came out of college young at 21 and was known for his explosive running style. It is tough to evaluate Williams, as he only has 58 NFL rushing attempts, but, in his freshman year at Virginia Tech, Williams had 1835 yards from scrimmage and 22 touchdowns. Although that was 2009, Williams has not had the opportunity to be a full time RB since, with both hamstring and knee injuries hampering his career. He was on the Cowboys practice squad last season, but could be a top-15 RB this year if he gets the starting job. The Cowboys have a run-focused offense and an elite offensive line: that leads to success for anyone that is able to be the starter in Dallas. If Williams wins the RB battle, look for him a massive draft day sleeper.
The Dallas Cowboys signed Ryan Williams, former Arizona Cardinals running back to a two year deal.
Fantasy Impact
Let's not read too much into the signing, but the Dallas Cowboys have stated they would use the franchise tag to retain superstar Dez Bryant, if both parties can not reach a long term deal. The Cowboys do still have Joseph Randle, however, Lance Dunbar is also a free agent this year, keep up to date here for all the latest news.
