Bears cut DE Ray McDonald

Ray McDonald is involved in his third domestic violence or sexual assault case in the last year, and the Bears have cut him as a result.

Fantasy Impact

McDonald has much more important things to deal with than football. Given the atmosphere in the NFL surrounding domestic violence and his incredibly terrible off-field decisions, it's likely McDonald has played his last NFL down.

Ray McDonald released following domestic violence arrest

The Bears have released Ray McDonald after the defensive lineman was arrested earlier Monday in California on domestic violence and child endangerment charges.

Fantasy Impact

McDonald has a history of off field issues, and the Bears signed him in March to a one year deal representing the risk he carried. They quickly cut bait on him, and other NFL teams will likely wait for more details before being willing to touch McDonald.

Bears to sign controversial defensive lineman Ray McDonald

Chicago Bears to sign Ray McDonald per multiple sources. The Bears are looking everywhere to improve their horrid defense. McDonald was released by San Fransisco last year when he was arrested for sexual assault; his second arrest in less than six months. This is clearly a push by Vic Fangio who coached McDonald in San Fransisco.

Fantasy Impact

Ray McDonald is not an elite player, but he is a very talented player. The Bears are obviously looking at the risk and think the possible reward outweighs any public relations issues. McDonald will be an upgrade over guys like Ego Ferguson. If McDonald does not have any more off the field issues, this could prove to be a great signing if the money is right.

49ers release defensive lineman Ray McDonald

In the wake of a sexual assault allegation, Ray McDonald was cut from the 49ers, the team announced today.

Fantasy Impact

This is the third time the police have been to McDonald's home since May. The 49ers stood by their lineman when he was accused, and cleared, of domestic violence. This latest allegation was too much to bear. McDonald's contract represents a just under $4.9 dead money hit in 2015 and $2.6 million in 2016. He comes off the books in 2017. An aging veteran with diminished output and a history of these types of issues may have trouble latching on after this. Look for Quinton Dial and Tank Carradine to increase their reps on Saturday.

Ray McDonald gets his third sack of the season in loss

Ray McDonald had a sack and four tackles vs. Seattle.

Fantasy Impact

He harassed Russell Wilson all day, also registering three QB hits. The 49ers use their defensive linemen mostly as space-eaters, so it wouldn't be wise to count on McDonald to get another sack this season. McDonald is entering his twilight years and has limited productivity remaining in him.
