49ers release defensive lineman Ray McDonald

In the wake of a sexual assault allegation, Ray McDonald was cut from the 49ers, the team announced today. (Jason La Canfora on Twitter)

This is the third time the police have been to McDonald's home since May. The 49ers stood by their lineman when he was accused, and cleared, of domestic violence. This latest allegation was too much to bear. McDonald's contract represents a just under $4.9 dead money hit in 2015 and $2.6 million in 2016. He comes off the books in 2017. An aging veteran with diminished output and a history of these types of issues may have trouble latching on after this. Look for Quinton Dial and Tank Carradine to increase their reps on Saturday.
