Derrick Favors is signing a 10-day contract with the Hawks on Tuesday, Adrian Wojnarowski of ESPN reports.
Fantasy Impact
Favors hasn’t played in the NBA this season after being waived by the Rockets in mid-October. The Hawks are likely looking to add some depth to their frontcourt for insurance purposes with starting center Clint Capela (calf) still working his way back from injury. In 39 games with the Thunder last season, Favors averaged 16.7 minutes, 5.3 points, and 4.7 rebounds. His role could be even smaller for the Hawks and isn’t worth a speculation add even in the deepest of leagues.
Derrick Favors was waived by the Rockets on Friday afternoon, as first reported by Shams Charania.
Fantasy Impact
Favors was dealt to the Rockets from Oklahoma City earlier in the offseason but it was never likely that he would stick around. His release is now official, as Houston had no real use for him amidst their youth movement. Favors will now be free to sign with another team that shows interest in him. He will not be fantasy relevant regardless.
Derrick Favors has been traded to the Houston Rockets in an eight-player deal that also sends Ty Jerome, Moe Harkless, Theo Maledon, and a 2025 first-round pick in exchange for David Nwaba, Sterling Brown, Trey Burke, and Marquese Chriss.
Fantasy Impact
He will provide excellent backup minutes at center in Houston behind Alperen Sengun. Favors had just exercised a $10.2 million player option with the Thunder this offseason. Favors averaged 5.3 points and 4.7 rebounds while shooting 51.6% from the field in 16.7 minutes while playing 39 games last season in Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma City Thunder F Derrick Favors has opted into his player option for the 2022-23 season which is worth $10.2 million.
Fantasy Impact
The Thunder will see Favors return for next season on his player option and hopefully it will mean he is able to remain on the court more consistently as he appeared in only 39 games this year. The big man is worth rostering so long as he stays healthy as the Thunder currently lack much depth to challenge him for the centre minutes. Thankfully for managers there is time before next season to make the decision on his draft stock as it is very possible that the team drafts a forward or centre to pair with the strong back court of Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Josh Giddey.
Derrick Favors (back) will be out for Wednesday's game against the Minnesota Timberwolves.
Fantasy Impact
Wednesday will mark the seventh-straight game that Favors has missed because of his low-back soreness. The timeline on his injury is still undefined, and there's no real optimism that he will return soon. Look for Isaiah Roby to continue to benefit from his absence.
