Fantasy Impact: Ekholm has done little early in the season to provide any substantial fantasy value while operating as more of a stalwart in the defensive zone. The veteran defenseman will not post a large amount of point production as evidenced by his eight points (one goal, seven assists) in 23 games so far this season. Make no mistake however, as Ekholm will make his presence felt in ways that do not show up in the box score for the Predators.

Nashville Predators forward Cole Smith recorded an assist in Friday's season-opening win over the San Jose Sharks.

Fantasy Impact: Smith's second-period helper was the first point of his NHL career and helped give the Predators a lead they would not relinquish. The 26-year-old skated in just his 10th NHL contest on Friday but posted a solid 21 goals and 41 points across 59 contests with the AHL's Milwaukee Admirals a season ago.
