Week 12 Outlook
Availability
Patriots signed TE Will Tye to their practice squad. Tye was seen at the Patriots' practice facility Wednesday after being let go by the Jets earlier this week.
Fantasy Impact
Tye will be insurance for the Patriots if Rob Gronkowski continues to have injury issues. He could also get promoted if the team decides to part ways with the underwhelming Dwayne Allen. Tye had been productive in his two years with the Giants in 2015-16.
Jets TE Will Tye had one reception for four yards in the Jets' Week 2 loss.
Fantasy Impact
Tye is going to go deeper down the depth chart as Austin Seferian-Jenkins is coming back from his two-game suspension. He is simply not fantasy relevant.
ESPN's Field Yates is reporting the New York Jets have claimed Will Tye off waivers from the New York Giants.
Fantasy Impact
Tye was claimed by the Jets to add depth to a questionable tight end depth chart until Austin Seferian-Jenkins returns from his suspension in Week 3. However, since Seferian-Jenkins has never played more than nine games in a season, Tye could wind up seeing a significant role on his new club at different points in the year. From a fantasy perspective, however, he has minimal value and should remain on the waiver wire.
New York Giants beat writer Jordan Raanan is reporting tight end Will Tye has been waived.
Fantasy Impact
Now that Tye is no longer on the team, Evan Engram is in line to open the 2017 season as the team's primary pass-catching tight end. Although veteran Rhett Elison is listed as the unofficial starter, he'll likely make his biggest impact as the Giants' top blocking TE and shouldn't be viewed as a threat to take targets away from Engram in passing situations. From a fantasy perspective, Engram should not be targeted in leagues with less than 12 teams, which is even a stretch. He is nothing more than a TE2 streamer until he proves otherwise.
The New York Giants have re-signed tight end Will Tye to a one-year deal worth $615K.
Fantasy Impact
Tye will return to the Giants for 2017, and unless they bring in notable competition this offseason, he will likely enter 2017 as their starting tight end. Earlier in the week, reports said that the team will not re-sign Larry Donnell, leaving the starting tight end job presumably open for Tye. The two-year veteran recorded a 48-395-1 stat line while playing in all 16 games in 2016.
