Cowboys Veteran C Travis Frederick announced on Twitter that he is retiring from the NFL at the age of 29.
Fantasy Impact
Frederick has decided to hang up his cleats after making it to five Pro Bowls in six seasons with the Cowboys. The lineman out of Wisconsin battled an autoimmune disorder that held him out of the entire 2018 season. Sources say that Frederick has been mulling this decision for a while, and now it’s official. He was signed through 2023 and will forfeit $7M of base salary he would have received this upcoming season. Needless to say, the All-Pro will be greatly missed by Cowboy Nation.
Cowboys All-Pro center Travis Frederick will be ready to go for training camp.
Fantasy Impact
Frederick was diagnosed with Guillain-Barre Syndrome last season, but still appeared and started in all 16 games for the fifth consecutive season. It's great news for all of the Cowboys skill players, as Frederick is arguably the best center in the NFL and an anchor for an excellent Dallas offensive line.
Dallas Cowboys center Travis Frederick has been diagnosed with Guillain-Barré syndrome, a rare neurological disorder in which the body’s immune system attacks the peripheral nervous system. Frederick released a statement saying he does not know when he will return to the field.
Fantasy Impact
Frederick's statement is both worrisome and optimistic. While he notes that doctors do not have a timetable for his return, he expresses that he is already feeling better after receiving treatment over the past few days. Frederick has yet to miss a game in his five-year career, but at this point, he is not a lock to be ready by the season opener. Losing Frederick would be a huge blow to quarterback Dak Prescott and running back Ezekiel Elliott as they look to rebound from a disappointing 2017 season.
Dallas Cowboys center Travis Frederick missed the team’s walk-through practice Wednesday morning to go to Los Angeles to have his shoulder examined, head coach Jason Garrett said, via Brandon George of the Dallas Morning News. Frederick has dealt with stingers in recent practices.
Fantasy Impact
The visit to the specialist is believed to be a precaution more than a concern that something more serious is going on with the stingers he has experienced in recent days. Frederick is the highest-paid center in the NFL, and losing him for any period of time would be a significant blow to the Dallas offense and the fantasy values of stars such as Dak Prescott and Ezekiel Elliott.
The Dallas Cowboys and C Travis Frederick have agreed to terms on a six-year, $56.4 million deal that includes $28.2 million in total guaranteed money. Frederick is now the highest-paid center in the NFL in the wake of his lucrative long-term contract extension.
Fantasy Impact
The Cowboys have their franchise center in place for years to come as Frederick signed a six-year extension on Saturday. Dallas has one of the NFL's elite offensive lines that was built through the draft and will be a force around the league as long as they remain healthy.
