Tashaun Gipson Sr.
S - San Francisco 49ers
Week 12 Outlook
Availability
The NFL did not reinstate Tashaun Gipson from his six-game suspension.
Fantasy Impact
Gipson was expected to be reinstated after completing his six-game suspension this past week. He should be eligible to play next week when the Jaguars take on the Patriots in London.
Free agent safety Tashaun Gipson Sr. will face a six-game suspension for violating the league's performance-enhancing substances policy.
Fantasy Impact
Gipson spent 2023 with the San Francisco 49ers, starting 19 games between the regular season and the postseason (including the Super Bowl). The veteran safety will turn 34 in August and has played 12 seasons in the NFL, seeing somewhat of a career resurgence in S.F. (career third-best PFF defensive grade in 2023 — 73.6). If he does sign with a team, he will be forced to miss some time, assuming his team does not win a potential appeal.
Chicago Bears S Tashaun Gipson has reportedly agreed to terms on a one-year deal to return with the team in 2021, per ESPN's Dan Graziano.
Fantasy Impact
Gipson totaled 65 tackles, seven pass deflections, and two interceptions across 16 games for the Bears in 2020 and will reportedly return after agreeing to terms on a one-year deal. The Bears had one of the more formidable defenses in 2020 and re-signing Gipson will help build continuity to ensure it remains in top form heading into the 2021 season. Playing alongside FS Eddie Jackson and newly signed CB Desmond Trufant should help Gipson replicate similar stats but the Bears will need to enhance their offensive efficiency to allow the defense more rest, as the offense only averaged 29:42 time of possession, ranking 18th amongst all 32 teams in 2020.
Mike Garafolo is reporting that safety Tashaun Gipson will be released by the Texans.
Fantasy Impact
Gipson played 14 games for the Texans last season but was placed on injured reserve late in the year due to a back injury. He lead the team with three interceptions while also combining for 51 tackles. There has been rumors that the other starting safety Justin Reid has been pushing for the team to sign his brother Eric Reid. Time will tell if there is any truth behind those rumors. As for Gipson, let’s see if any teams that missed out adding a safety during the draft will be interested in signing the veteran.
Tashaun Gipson got in on the scoring frenzy against the Falcon, taking a 79 yard INT to the house in a 53-32 win. He also chipped in three total tackles, a pass defended, and a QB hit.
Fantasy Impact
Gipson's TD came in the waning moments of the game and put the icing on the cake for a Texans team that had struggled to put points on the board two of the last three weeks. However, the unit as a whole needs to be much better next week as they go into Arrowhead against Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs.
