Week 11 Outlook
Availability
CB and special-teamer Ryan Smith has signed a one-year, $1.75M deal time return to the Buccaneers. $1M is guaranteed, with the opportunity to earn up to $500,000 in incentives.
Fantasy Impact
The former 2016 fourth-round pick out of NC Central has been with Tampa Bay for four seasons. He played some corner in 2017 and 2018, recording 62 and 38 tackles respectively. In 2019, Smith was relegated to more of a special teams role, but thrived in that role, and has been doing so all four years with the Buccaneers. He’ll be back with the team for at least one more season.
Ryan Smith (ankle) is now looking doubtful for Week 16 versus Carolina.
Fantasy Impact
He had been a serviceable streaming cornerback play for IDP replacing Vernon Hargreaves while he was dealing with injuries. Hargreaves has been sent to I.R. and it is hard to recommend whoever may replace Smith.
With Vernon Hargreaves (hamstring) inactive again Ryan Smith received the start in his place. Smith recorded eight combined tackles, leading the Tampa Bay secondary in the loss to Detriot.
Fantasy Impact
Fantasy owners in IDP leagues who may have streamed Smith were rewarded in this contest. Hargreaves owners will want to keep an eye on his hamstring situation as Tampa Bay faces off with Atlanta in Week 15 and Smith could once again be a good streaming IDP play at cornerback.
Ryan Smith was inserted as Hargreaves (hamstring) replacement for the matchup against Atlanta. Smith was charged with stopping Julio Jones, let's just say that didn't go well. Jones had a career day and Smith was outmatched in the situation as most defensive backs in the league would have been. Tampa Bay can't pin the loss to Atlanta on Smith however, it was a group effort.
Fantasy Impact
Smith did record eight tackles for any IDP owner who took a long shot gamble on him this week. It's not recommended to take that gamble again if at all possible going forward. If by chance Hargreaves misses any more time there could be a slim chance Smith stays on the radar as opposing quarterbacks pick on him instead of Brent Grimes. But be aware that it is possible that Tampa Bay goes with a different option next time around.
