Robert Aguayo released by the Chicago Bears

The Chicago Bears have decided to leave Kicker Robert Aguayo off the final 53 man roster.

Fantasy Impact

The downfall continues for Aguayo, from being a second round pick in the 2016 draft to being released from two teams within less than three weeks. Aguayo has lost all confidence and will always have to live with the added pressure of being a kicker who was drafted with a high draft pick. We will see if another team picks him up, if not the added time off can help.

Roberto Aguayo makes extra point

Roberto Aguayo was brought in to kick an extra point attempt in the 4th quarter in Sunday's preseason game.

Fantasy Impact

Aguayo was brought in by the Bears once he was released by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. He is fighting for a roster spot as he has not been great thus far for the Bears.

Roberto Aguayo signs with Chicago

ESPN's Adam Schefter is reporting the Chicago Bears have signed kicker Roberto Aguayo on Sunday.

Fantasy Impact

The Bears have taken a flier on Aguayo despite his struggles in his first year and a half as a pro. He'll compete with Connor Barth for the Bears' starting placekicker job in 2017.

Roberto Aguayo cut

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have released kicker Roberto Aguayo on Saturday.

Fantasy Impact

Aguayo, a second round pick in 2016, was cut Saturday. He lost his job to veteran Nick Folk. This move doesn't surprise me as the second-year kicker has struggled mightily in his short tenure in the league not only in games, but in practices as well. In his only season as a pro, Aguayo was only successful on 71 percent of his field goal atttemps (22-of-31).

Roberto Aguayo's roster spot 'not assured' in 2017

Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht told the media kicker Roberto Aguayo's roster spot is "not assured" in 2017. “We will do everything we can to bring in the best competition at that position,” Licht said via PewterReport.com. “I think Dirk [Koetter] even said he’s not locked into this roster. He needs to have a great camp just like all of our players, but we will continue to find the best competition that we can and ultimately have the best kicker that we can on this roster – whether it’s him or somebody else.”

Fantasy Impact

Aguayo, who was the 59th overall pick in the 2016 draft, struggled in his rookie season in the NFL. Playing in all 16 games, he was successful on only 22-of-31 field goal attempts and 32-of-34 extra point attempts. With the Seahawks signing Blair Walsh this week, impending free agent kicker Steven Hauschka became expendable, and he is now linked to the Buccaneers. If not Hauschka, expect Tampa Bay to pursue another available place kicker to compete with Aguayo this offseason. The added competition could push Aguayo to reach his potential, or his career could come to an end sooner rather than later -- despite his second-round draft status.
