Tampa Bay Buccaneers general manager Jason Licht told the media kicker Roberto Aguayo's roster spot is "not assured" in 2017. “We will do everything we can to bring in the best competition at that position,†Licht said via PewterReport.com. “I think Dirk [Koetter] even said he’s not locked into this roster. He needs to have a great camp just like all of our players, but we will continue to find the best competition that we can and ultimately have the best kicker that we can on this roster – whether it’s him or somebody else.†(PewterReport.com)
Fantasy Impact:
Aguayo, who was the 59th overall pick in the 2016 draft, struggled in his rookie season in the NFL. Playing in all 16 games, he was successful on only 22-of-31 field goal attempts and 32-of-34 extra point attempts. With the Seahawks signing Blair Walsh this week, impending free agent kicker Steven Hauschka became expendable, and he is now linked to the Buccaneers. If not Hauschka, expect Tampa Bay to pursue another available place kicker to compete with Aguayo this offseason. The added competition could push Aguayo to reach his potential, or his career could come to an end sooner rather than later -- despite his second-round draft status.
