Rob Ninkovich has been suspended for four games after testing positive for a banned substance, Mike Reiss of ESPN reports. The veteran defensive end claimed to be devastated and shocked by the news that he tested positive, claiming to have never knowingly taken a banned substance.
Fantasy Impact
This may actually be a positive for the Patriots and Ninkovich. He has been recovering from a torn triceps injury and he was questionable to be ready for the start of the season. The team can replace him on the roster and Ninkovich can get back to full health. The defensive end was on the radar of owners in IDP fantasy leagues after finishing last season with 52 tackles and 6.5 sacks.
New England Patriots defensive end Rob Ninkovich told ESPN that he has been suspended four games for the unknowing use of a banned substance.
Fantasy Impact
Ninkovich claims that the product he used contained a banned substance which was not identified on the label - a story similar to that of Philadelphia Eagles offensive lineman Lane Johnson. Ninkovich is working his way back from injury and was unlikely to make the start of the season anyway. A jack-of-all-trades contributor for the team, his presence will be missed but shouldn't affect the production of the Patriots' D/ST in fantasy this year.
Rob Ninkovich left Tuesday's practice with a triceps injury, the Boston Herald reports. He has an MRI on tap. Per the report, Ninkovich -- who left the field along with a team doctor -- was seen shaking his head at that time.
Fantasy Impact
Ninkovich is slated to be the starting left defensive end for the Patriots this season. He also plays linebacker and last season recorded 52 tackles and 6.5 sacks. He is someone who that should be looked at in leagues that have IDP with his ability to create turnovers and collect tackles.
Rob Ninkovich was on the field for 52 of the Patriots' 71 defensive snaps in Monday's win over the Bills. He recorded a season-high six tackles and 1.5 sacks.
Fantasy Impact
Ninkovich has 29 tackles and 4.5 sacks in 10 games to date. He does not get enough volume in either category to warrant being a must own in IDP leagues.
