The Raiders placed veteran safety Reggie Nelson on injured reserve Wednesday with a shoulder injury. His season is over.
Fantasy Impact
Nelson injured his shoulder in last Sunday’s loss to the Chiefs. He finishes the season with 29 tackles and two interceptions in 11 games.
NFL Media’s Ian Rapoport is reporting the Raiders are planning on benching starting safety Reggie Nelson for Sunday’s game against the Colts. Marcus Gilchrist, Karl Joseph and Erik Harris are expected to rotate in place of Nelson.
Fantasy Impact
Nelson has started all six games this season but has struggled, leading to the team making him a healthy scratch coming out of the bye. It is not yet known if this is a one week move or something we can expect to see more of moving forward.
Oakland Raiders safety Reggie Nelson has returned to the field after finally recovering from an ankle injury he sustained in the Bengals playoff loss last season. The veteran safety is one of multiple defensive additions Raiders General Manager Reggie McKenzie brought in.
Fantasy Impact
For the Raiders it makes their defense even more tempting with their new ball-hawking safety back in camp. Teamed with first-round draft choice Karl Joseph, who is expected to earn the strong safety starting job, the blend of youth and experience make for a tantalising well-balanced secondary. The Raiders D/ST is a sleeper candidate this year.
The Oakland Raiders and S Reggie Nelson agreed to terms on a two-year deal on Wednesday.
Fantasy Impact
Reggie Nelson will add a playmaker to Oakland's secondary in 2016. The nine-year pro lead the NFL with eight interceptions in 2015 with the Bengals, adding tow fumble recoveries and 14 pass deflections. Oakland's defense is slowly becoming a defense worth taking a flier on in the later rounds of this year's upcoming fantasy football drafts.
