Week 12 Outlook
Availability
The Browns claimed cornerback Phillip Gaines off waivers Wednesday. He takes the place of cornerback E.J. Gaines who went on injured reserve with a concussion.
Fantasy Impact
Gaines (Phillip) played in seven games (six starts) with the Bills before they released him at the beginning of the week. He recorded 30 tackles in that time. The Browns also announced that they have claimed safety Jermaine Whitehead off of waivers from the Packers.
Kansas City Chiefs head coach Andy Reid told the media that cornerback Phillip Gaines will start opposite Marcus Peters to open the 2016 season.
Fantasy Impact
Gaines started the first three games of last season before going down with a torn ACL, holding his own in coverage in the snaps he played. However, he was exposed in the run game. He figures to be an average at best player for the Chiefs this season and is unlikely to make many positive players for owners rostering the Chiefs' D/ST in fantasy leagues.
Starting cornerback Phillip Gaines has been lost for the season due to a torn ACL suffered in Monday night's loss against the Green Bay Packers.
Fantasy Impact
Luckily Sean Smith is returning from suspension, and rookie Marcus Peters has held up fairly well. This thin secondary will be a target for passing offenses, and will impact the overall value of the Chief's DST. Aaron Rogers lit them up on Monday night after Gaines left the game, and the ability to get the ball out quickly negated the vaunted Chief's defensive rush.
After suffering a concussion in last week's game against Arizona, Gaines struggled through two practices this week, missing Wednesdays session.
Fantasy Impact
Gaines has played well for the Chiefs, starting opposite Sean Smith for most of the season. Second year player Marcus Cooper will fill in for Gaines should he have to sit out. Oakland is tied for third in the league in turnovers and has the worst turnover differential in the NFL.
