The Dallas Cowboys signed former Philadelphia Eagles defensive back Nolan Carroll.
Fantasy Impact
Carroll, a seven-year veteran, signed with Dallas Friday. Formerly of the Eagles, the Cowboys picked up their newest defensive addition from their division rivals. With the Cowboys in danger of losing both Brandon Carr and Morris Claiborne -- both of their starters from a year ago -- Carroll's role on the club could be prominent in 2017 if Dallas doesn't further address the need. Similar to recent years, the Cowboys have been quiet at the start of free agency. Their focus has been re-signing their own players while mixing in under the radar signings as well at positions of need.
The Philadelphia Eagles and CB Nolan Carroll agree to terms on a one-year deal worth up to $3 million according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Fantasy Impact
Nolan Carroll will return to the Eagles on a one-year, incentive-based deal. The six-year veteran finished 2015 on IR due to an ankle injury suffered in Week 12 against Detroit. In 11 games, Carroll tallied 57 total tackles, two interceptions, one touchdown and 10 defended passes.
Nolan Carroll is becoming a house hold name in the Eagles secondary as he continues to make big plays for the Eagles. He recorded his second interception of the season against the Panthers and now has back to back games with an interception.
Fantasy Impact
On top of the fine play in coverage, Carroll is also making tackles for the defense as he had 6 solo and 3 assists against the Panthers on Sunday Night. Carroll is still listed as a CB so unless you absolutely have to roster a CB in your IDP league he might not be in consideration.
The Eagles and Giants were tied at 7-7 before Nolan Carroll's pick six against Eli Manning. The Giants offense was on point during their opening drive and looked like they were in store for a good night but after the Carroll interception the game completely changed and the defense continued to put the pressure on Manning and the Giants offense.
Fantasy Impact
Not only did Carroll get the 17-yard interception for a touchdown he also was helping out the defense by making key tackles and finished the game with 6 solo, and 1 assist. In leagues where you are required to start a CB it might be wise to snag Carroll off the waiver wire as the Eagles defense looks to be one that is always looking for the big play.
Eagles head coach Chip Kelly continues to to draw praises to CB Nolan Carroll, "Nolan Carroll has done an unbelievable job in the offseason. He's a guy that stands out in terms of what he's done in the weight room and some of those other things. I'm not slighting anybody by not saying them, but I just think Nolan is a guy, when you ask me about the defensive backs, that has really done a great job in the offseason."
Fantasy Impact
Carroll never really got a shot to start in 2014 and was more of a role player for the Eagles in his first season with the team. With all the positives during the offseason and praise from his head coach, Carroll might have a decent shot at starting at CB this season.
