As he continued his fight for a roster spot, third-string QB Matt Simms completed 16-of-23 for 217 yards and two interceptions. In his defense, his two interceptions came off tipped passes that were intended for rookie TE Austin Hooper.

It remains to be seen if the Falcons will roster three quarterbacks, but Simms played well enough to merit a longer look for coaches.
Matt Simms was claimed off waivers from the Bills and signed to the Falcons practice squad on Monday.

Simms looked terrible in preseason action for the Bills. At 6-3, 210 pounds, Simms was originally signed by the New York Jets as a college free agent following the 2012 NFL Draft out of Tennessee. Simms has appeared in four career games, completing 19 of 39 pass attempts for 195 yards, one touchdown and one interception. He has no fantasy value.
New York Jets quarterbacks coach David Lee offered high praise of Matt Simms on Tuesday. "Matt Simms has improved as much as any guy I think I can ever remember coaching," Lee said. "Early on, he threw so hard, our backs couldn't catch it. There was no touch. He developed some touch, and developed more touch. Right now, he is accurate." Simms is expected to receive heavy playing time in Thursday night's preseason finale in Philadelphia.

It is unlikely you'd hear such a positive statement about someone who is going to be cut, so this report suggests that Matt Simms will make the Jets' final 53-man roster over rookie Tajh Boyd. Even if Simms does make the roster, however, you can't ignore the fact that he is the third-string QB, and will have extremely limited opportunity to score fantasy points, if he even gets a chance at all.
