Keith Marshall done for the year with injury

Washington Redskins beat writer John Keim is reporting running back Keith Marshall (knee) will miss the entire 2017 season with a torn patellar tendon.

Fantasy Impact

Marshall is not getting off to a good start in his career. After missing the entire 2016 season with an elbow injury, he tore his right patellar tendon Saturday and will be out for the 2017 campaign in its entirety. Mack Brown will likely benefit from Marshall's absence as Matt Jones is not expected to remain with the team come Week 1.

Keith Marshall suffers injury in third preseason contest

Washington Redskins RB Keith Marshall (elbow) exited Friday night's preseason contest against the Buffalo Bills after his first carry of the night with a sprained elbow. Marshall will undergo an MRI on Saturday to determine the severity of the ailment.

Fantasy Impact

Marshall is in the midst of a preseason position battle with Rob Kelley for the No. 3 running back spot on Washinton's depth chart. Reports suggest that Marshall's durability is a concern for the Redskins and this injury could further push Kelley ahead of the rookie rusher. Both backs should remain on the waiver wire to start the upcoming fantasy football campaign.

Keith Marshall ineffective in preseason debut

Washington Redskins running back Keith Marshall was ineffective in his preseason debut against the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday, rushing five times for -1 yards.

Fantasy Impact

On a brighter note, he did catch two passes for 10 yards, but Marshall will need to show better as a runner if he is going to seriously challenge starter Matt Jones for snaps. He is still someone to monitor only.

Keith Marshall could be a sleeper for the Redskins’ offense

Washington Redskins’ general manager Scott McCloughan stated that he is very excited about rookie RB Keith Marshall and could see a role for him in the Redskins’ backfield. McCloughan stated that he sees the Redskins' RB situation with RBs Matt Jones and Marshall as a “two-headed monster in the backfield”.

Fantasy Impact

While Jones is currently the starter, I would definitely monitor the production of Marshall during the preseason. While it will probably take an injury for Marshall to supplant Jones for the starting spot in the preseason, stranger things have happened. If productive, Marshall could really hurt Jones’ value. Marshall is currently going undrafted in a large majority of drafts but may provide value later in the season. For now, I would look at Marshall as a handcuff for Jones or as a late round stash candidate.

Keith Marshall could be roster casualty

Keith Marshall may not make the Redskins' opening day roster, according to the Washington Post.

Fantasy Impact

The writer mentions that the Redskins could keep four RBs, but he has them more likely to take three if no one earns the fourth spot. Marshall showed promise in Georgia, but he continues to deal with injuries, currently a hamstring. He must get healthy and prove he's worthy of being retained.
