Week 12 Outlook
Availability
San Francisco 49ers WR Eric Rogers (ACL) will miss the entire 2016 season with a torn ACL that was sustained during practice on Thursday. Rogers was a CFL star before signing with San Francisco in the offseason.
Fantasy Impact
Rogers will miss the entire 2016 regular season due to a torn ACL. He signed with the 49ers in the offseason following an outstanding career in the CFL. DeAndre Smelter, Bruce Ellington and Quinton Patton will compete for the No. 2 and No.3 wide receiver spots on San Francisco's depth chart in training camp in the wake of Rogers' season-ending injury.
NFL.com believes that WR Eric Rogers could contribute for the 49ers. He's played the last two seasons in the Canadian Football League.
Fantasy Impact
There's certainly a transition from the CFL to the NFL, but Rogers has impressed so far. He has solid size and speed, and he could be a player to watch this preseason. It would seem like the best he could do initially is the team's No. 3 WR, but there is no one truly elite ahead of him on the depth chart, including No. 1 option Torrey Smith.
San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Eric Rogers has been fitting in nicely during OTAs and could be separating himself from the rest of the pack as a candidate to start opposite Torrey Smith.
Fantasy Impact
Rogers caught more passes than any other receiver during team drills at OTAs last week and has shown impressive ball skills. He is likely competing with DeAndre Smelter for the starting job, and it is too early to tell who will earn that spot. The winner of this battle could come into some value during the fantasy season.
The 49ers have signed the Canadian Football League's top receiver in Eric Rogers. The contract is a two-year deal including a signing bonus of $125,000 and base salaries of $450k and $540k in each of the two years.
Fantasy Impact
The move to pick up Rogers is a positive start to the Kelly era. Rogers led the CFL with 1,448 receiving yards and caught 10 touchdowns in 2015. He had 13 offers from NFL teams and is originally from Southern California. The 49ers receiving corps can certainly use more depth with Torrey Smith being the only player on the roster that is a guaranteed starter. The 6'3", 210 lbs wideout will certainly have a shot to play a role in the offense.
