Week 12 Outlook
Availability
DeAndre Smelter sat out Thursday's preseason opener against the Saints due to a concussion, Mike Kaye of FirstCoastNews.com reports.
Fantasy Impact
Smelter has been out since Monday as he is dealing with a concussion and will have to pass the protocol before getting back on the field. The 26-year-old wide receiver is a long shot to make the Jaguars roster and will need to get back on the field soon.
The Jacksonville Jaguars have signed veteran wide receiver DeAndre Smelter to a one-year contract. Smelter was originally drafted by the 49ers in the fourth-round of the 2015 NFL Draft but caught just one reception for the team in 2016. Smelter signed a reserve/future contract with Indianapolis last season but was waived in May.
Fantasy Impact
The Jaguars invited Smelter to try out during minicamp and signed him to the 90-man roster. Jacksonville's receiving corps is in a state of flux but has quite a bit of young talent, which will make it nearly impossible for Smelter to be anything more than a training camp body.
The 49ers have cut 3rd-year WR DeAndre Smelter.
Fantasy Impact
A deep sleeper due to his size/speed/college production, Smelter has had a hard time staying on the field after knee and hamstring injuries. The former 4th-round pick is droppable in all formats and his path back to fantasy relevance is highly improbable.
The San Francisco 49ers signed WR DeAndre Smelter to their practice squad and released WR Dres Anderson.
Fantasy Impact
Smelter was previously released by the 49ers prior to the start of the season on September 3rd. The only way he'll make it on the roster is if other WRs suffer injuries, which Smelter has a problem avoiding as it is. It's doubtful that he has any fantasy impact this year.
The 49ers released oft-injured DeAndre Smelter.
Fantasy Impact
Smelter has promise as an NFL player, but he just can't stay healthy. Even though, if he's picked up, he is not fantasy relevant.
