David Bass among Bears' final cuts on Saturday

Per sources, third-year OLB David Bass has been waived by the Bears. Also, the Bears decided to part ways with QB Zac Dysert, DT Terry Williams, LB's Matthew Wells and Jonathan Anderson, WR's Ify Umodu and A.J. Cruz, TE Gannon Sinclair and OL Michael Ola, according to the Chicago Tribune's Brad Biggs.

Fantasy Impact

The release of Bass has to be the biggest surprise thus far for the Bears outside of Mason Foster on Friday night. Back in July, Bass said he believed playing at his new position, OLB, gave him a "better chance of making the team and be out there come game time" in an exclusive interview with Bears Backer. With plenty of upside, Bass should latch on somewhere else.

David Bass understands the low expectations surrounding the Bears

Third-year Bears defensive player David Bass is transitioning to OLB after playing as a 4-3 DE his entire football career. In 20 games with two starts, Bass has 33 tackles, four sacks, a forced fumble, and an interception return for a touchdown.

The Bears report to Bourbonnais on Jul. 29 and he says he knows he has to be an expert at OLB to make the 53-man roster. He also knows the expectations from fans and experts regarding the team aren't very high. “We are going to be ranked low because of last season," he said via Bears Backer. "However, it’s a new year, new beginning, so people can write us off but all that matters is what goes on in our locker room, meeting room and what we take into the game. We believe in ourselves and that’s all that matters.” Bass is a rising player who could emerge as a star at his new position with little set in stone right now a top the Bears' depth chart.
