The 49ers have cut veteran DB Chris Cook.
Fantasy Impact
Cook was a preseason darling in 2014 but was injured early on and didn't contribute. There has been no corresponding move made, but rumors are an offensive line move may be made. Cook had no fantasy value but it is curious the 49ers cut a DB when cornerback is their biggest question mark.
49ers and free agent Chris Cook agree to a one-year contract.
Fantasy Impact
Cook was a disaster in Minnesota, and he never got his feet under him in San Francisco. He looked good last preseason, but he only managed 48 snaps before going out for the season.
In front of the first 49ers’ crowd at Levi’s Stadium, Cook starred, stealing two interceptions. Should Cook realize his potential as a former second-round pick in 2010, he could challenge another big corner, Chris Culliver, for playing time.
Fantasy Impact
Cook realizes this is his shot to redeem his career after playing four years in Minnesota where he started 29 games, but never recorded an interception. If he plays up to the expectations of where he was drafted (34th overall), he may have a shot to legitimately see the field quite often. That being said, his fantasy contribution will be more team oriented than being an IDP contributor.
