A.J. Hawk
LB -
Week 12 Outlook
Availability
Falcons have signed former Green Bay Packers LB A.J. Hawk. Hawk signed after also visiting with the Dolphins in September and being released by the Bengals in April. The Falcons needed a LB desperately with LB's Deion Jones, Paul Worrilow, De'Vondre Campbell, and Sean Weatherspoon all battling injuries. It's possible that Hawk could be asked to fill in as soon as their next game against the Broncos.
Fantasy Impact
Hawk is a needy replacement for the injuries suffered to the Falcons LB core. The Falcons DST is one to start offensive players against and one to avoid as a streamer.
Sirius XM NFL radio's Alex Marvez is reporting that the Cincinnati Bengals will release veteran linebacker A.J. Hawk.
Fantasy Impact
After one season in Cincinnati, the Bengals are parting ways with A.J. Hawk. The 10-year veteran appeared in all 16 games last year with the Bengals and only accounted for 24 tackles and a sack. Hawk could catch on with another team and add veteran leadership and depth, but he will likely have to wait until injuries begin to occur later in the preseason to find a new suitor.
In one of the Bengals' quiet off-season moves, they brought in A.J. Hawk, who averaged 109 tackles per season the last three years with the Packers.
Fantasy Impact
Due to Hawk's quiet preseason, it's very possible that he went undrafted this season. If he's available in your league, his past performance warrants careful watching early in the season, if not a speculative add.
According to ESPN NFL Insider Adam Schefter, A.J Hawk and the Cincinnati Bengals have agreed on a contract. The details have not been released yet, but it is pretty close to a done deal.
Fantasy Impact
This is a very big pickup for the Bengals, considering their lack of depth at the linebacker position. The ex-Packer will bring experience and leadership to the young defensive unit in Cincinnati.
According to ESPN's Cole Harvey, former Green Bay Packer linebacker A.J. Hawk met with the Cincinnati Bengals on Monday. Hawk spent nine seasons with the Packers before being cut two weeks ago. The Bengals' main focus this offseason will be to obtain some more depth at the linebacker position. In 2014 injuries killed the Bengals at linebacker, forcing them to start a few inexperienced linebackers in Marquis Flowers and Jayson DiManche. Adding Hawk to their linebacking core would be a great idea, considering the experience he has at the position.
Fantasy Impact
A.J. Hawk had somewhat of an off year last season, recording 90 tackles and only 0.5 sacks. Hawk has recorded 120 tackles twice in his career, and has been over 100 tackles five out of his nine seasons. Tackling was a major issue for the Bengals last year, especially in the run game as their defense ranked 20th in the NFL. Hawk would be a great addition to Cincinnati this offseason, with Burfict coming back from injury and Maualuga coming off a fresh contract, the Bengals linebacking core would be ready to go in 2015.
