Free agent kicker Adam Vinatieri told NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero Tuesday that he wants to try and return to the NFL for what would be his 25th season, however, his rehab from knee surgery is slowed due to the quarantine.
Fantasy Impact
Vinatieri started kicking for the Patriots in 1996, spent 10 seasons in New England before joining the Colts in 2006. He’s played in the NFL for so long that his stats year-over-year resemble the length of a CVS receipt. At 47 years old, Vinatieri is attempting to do the impossible, but is determined to keep kicking in the NFL. Meanwhile, the Colts gave k Rodrigo Blankenship a $20,000 bonus, and he’ll compete with incumbent kicker Chase McLaughlin for the starting job this upcoming season.
Colts owner Jim Irsay isn't sure if veteran kicker Adam Vinatieri will be back with the team in 2020.
Fantasy Impact
Vinatieri is currently a free agent, and while the team hasn't officially ruled out a return, they are not committing to the veteran at this point. It has continued to be an up-and-down period for Vinatieri, who only made 68% of his field goals and missed six of his 28 attempted PATs in 2019.
Adam Schefter of ESPN reports Adam Vinatieri is undergoing season-ending knee surgery.
Fantasy Impact
The Colts will place him on injured reserve. Vinatieri has had a tough season and was inactive in Week 14. The 46-year-old converted 17-of-25 field goals this year and 22-of-28 PATs.
Colts starting kicker Adam Vinatieri will not start in Sunday's game against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
Fantasy Impact
Vinatieri's chances of starting this week were pretty slim to begin with as he has been seeing doctors about his knee injury. It is uncertain if he will play another game this season but if he does not, then it could very well be the end of his career. Indianapolis will use Chase McLaughlin in the meantime.
