Brandon Aiyuk officially requests trade from 49ers

49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk has officially requested a trade out of San Francisco as the two sides continue to be unable to come to terms on a long-term contract extension. (Mike Garafolo on Twitter)

This situation has been brewing all offseason, and now Aiyuk has formally requested a trade. The interesting part of Garafolo's report is that the 49ers have been "unwilling to engage in negotiations since May." That phrasing is surely coming from Aiyuk's agent, but it's an interesting insight into just how far apart the two sides are in negotiations. Aiyuk is 26 years old and entering the final year of his rookie deal, which is the fifth-year option that the team exercised. He has topped 1,000 yards receiving in each of the last two seasons, catching 75 of his 105 targets for 1,342 yards and 7 TD in 2023. If the 49ers do end up moving on from him, it could mean additional opportunities for WRs Deebo Samuel, Jauan Jennings, and rookie Ricky Pearsall and TE George Kittle.
