Jeff Withey has been placed on waivers by the Mavericks.
Fantasy Impact
The former second-round pick by the Blazers back in 2013 made no fantasy impact this season or really at all in his career.
Jeff Withey has agreed to a one-year deal with the Mavericks on Friday. Withey seems to be a backup in place just in case Nerlens Noel doesn't return to the team. At this time, Noel is likely to return to Dallas so his minutes so be minimal.
Fantasy Impact
Withey spent the last few seasons in Utah but like in Utah he's not much of a fantasy option again this season.
Withey went 0-for-2 from the field, but was able to sink two free-throws Saturday. Offensively he was a ghost, but defensively Withey pulled in seven rebounds, one steal, and three blocks for a plus 13 +/- differential.
Fantasy Impact
Withey's relevance is minimal as long as top ten center Rudy Gobert is healthy. However, Withey has shown he can play well defensively, and could be considered a quality handcuff for Gobert in standard leagues.
Jeff Withey played so well last season that the Jazz promoted him to be their third center.
Fantasy Impact
Withey is still behind centers Rudy Gobert and Trey Lyles but it does put him one injury away from fantasy relevance. Though Withey should not be drafted he should be on your "watchlist" in case an injury does occur.
In Monday's 93-91 loss to Houston, Jeff Withey finished with eight points (2-for-8 from the field and 4-for-6 from the line), 11 rebounds, three steals and three blocks in 35 minutes on the floor.
Fantasy Impact
Withey had a nice all-around game on Monday, but he can only be considered as a viable option to go with in the deepest of leagues right now as long as Utah's starting front court remains banged up.
