Ronald Guzman diagnosed with left pronator strain

San Francisco Giants two-way player Ronald Guzman has been diagnosed with a left pronator strain after exiting his March 12 outing.

Fantasy Impact

Guzman was injured while throwing a pitcher that sailed over the catcher's head in a March 12 contest against the Oakland A's. Guzman is attempting to become a two-way player this season as he features a 97 mph fastball and wipeout slider and will miss the next six-to-eight weeks. Guzman has made just 23 MLB plate appearances over the last two seasons but hit 26 home runs across his first two big-league seasons spanning 210 games. His pitching career will be on hold for a couple of months as he works to get healthy.

Ronald Guzman attempting to become two-way player

The San Francisco Giants' Ronald Guzman is attempting to become a two-way player this season.

Fantasy Impact

The Giants signed Guzman to a minor-league deal a couple of weeks back, but it was just recently released that he is attempting to become a pitcher as well. Guzman hit 30 home runs in 236 games across his first three MLB seasons but has seen just 23 big-league plate appearances over the past two seasons since. In addition to his natural position of first base, Guzman will attempt to become a southpaw pitcher but would need sizable minor-league seasoning to compete at both spots in the big leagues.

Ronald Guzman collects 5 RBI

Fantasy Impact

Guzman will be hard-pressed to find playing time with the Yankees this season but made a strong impression on Monday.

Ronald Guzman signs minor-league deal with Yankees

Ronald Guzman has agreed to a minor-league deal with the Yankees that includes an invitation to spring training.

Fantasy Impact

Guzman tore his meniscus last year playing in the outfield with the Rangers and was limited to just 17 plate appearances. In four seasons with Texas, he slashed .227/.304/.414 with 31 home runs and simply could not replicate the success he had in the minors. The Yankees will give him a look but the chances of Guzman earning a fantasy-relevant role with New York are minimal, so there's little need to consider him for fantasy purposes.

Ronald Guzman (torn meniscus) will miss remainder of the year

As announced Friday afternoon, Ronald Guzman will undergo surgery to repair a torn meniscus, ending the 26-year-old's season.

Fantasy Impact

The injury that landed Guzman on the 10-day IL on April 12th will now force the first baseman to miss the rest of 2021. Guzman's season ends with his lone hit leaving Globe Life Field.
