Lucas Harrell with a rough night

Lucas Harrell lasted just two innings in tonight's game against Oakland before leaving the game with a groin strain. That might have hastened what was going to be an early exit anyway, as Harrell once again struggled with his control and effectiveness. Harrell allowed three hits, walked four and gave up a run before leaving with the injury.

Fantasy Impact

Coming on the heels of his last start, this was nothing short of a disaster for Harrell, who is trying to hold down the fifth starter's role. Derek Holland has made three starts at Triple-A and hasn't been that effective, so Harrell had a chance to hold his spot with a solid outing. At this point, the outlook for that happening is not good.

Lucas Harrell with a subpar start

Lucas Harrell surrendered nine hits and six runs over six innings of work, but did not figure in the final decision in the Rangers' 12-9 loss to the Rockies. Harrell only walked one and struck out eight.

Fantasy Impact

Harrell obviously did some good things - just one walk and eight strikeouts. He also gave up four extra-base hits, including a home run to Charlie Blackmon. It wasn't a great start, but he did leave the game with a lead and stood to earn the victory before the bullpen blew it.

Lucas Harrell struggles with control

Lucas Harrell needed 92 pitches to get through just 3.2 innings in the Rangers 3-2 win over the Astros Saturday. Harrell, making his second start for Texas since being acquired from Atlanta, gave up five hits, walked five and struck out five while allowing just one run.

Fantasy Impact

Of Harrell's 92 pitches, only 44 were strikes. If he hopes to hang on to his spot in the rotation for any length of time, he's going to need to give manager Jeff Bannister a lot more than he showed today.

Lucas Harrell gets the win in Rangers debut

Newly acquired Lucas Harrell allowed four hits and three runs over six innings of work to pick up his first victory in a Rangers uniform as Texas knocked off Kansas City 5-3 on Sunday. Harrell walked three and struck out two to improve his season record to 3-2.

Fantasy Impact

Harrell gave the Rangers a quality start in his debut and with Texas unable to accomplish anything yet prior to the trading deadline, may have assured himself of another start.

Lucas Harrell to get the start Sunday

Newly acquired Lucas Harrell will get his first start in a Rangers uniform on Sunday in the finale of the series with Kansas City. Harrell was 2-2 with a 3.38 ERA in five starts for the Atlanta Braves. He threw six scoreless innings in his last start against the Twins, a team that beat the Rangers five out of seven times just before the All-Star break.

Fantasy Impact

Harrell is auditioning for a spot in the rotation as the trade deadline approaches. The Rangers are in the hunt for a quality starter, but may also step back and see if Harrell and A.J. Griffin can hold down the fort until Colby Lewis and Derek Holland return at the end of August.
