Koda Glover takes loss in extra innings Saturday

Koda Glover allowed two runs on three hits in the Nationals' 7-5 loss to the Marlins on Saturday. He struck out one, walked one, and fell to 0-2.

Fantasy Impact

The Nationals' bullpen woes continue, as Glover allowed the go-ahead runs in a tie ballgame yesterday. A two-run single by Isaac Galloway is what finally did him in, and the Nationals' couldn't rally in the bottom of the tenth. With Kelvin Herrera expected to return this week Glover's tenure at closer should thankfully be short-lived.

Koda Glover notches first save Thursday

Koda Glover picked up his first save of the season in the Nationals' 5-4 win over the Cardinals on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

It was a little shaky for Glover, who allowed a single and a walk with two outs before retiring Yadier Molina to end the game. Glover has only pitched 2.2 innings this season due to a severe shoulder injury from lasts year. He has a career 4.97 ERA and 1.08 HR/9, so he isn't a high-end reliever by any means, but he looks like the closer in Washington.

Koda Glover dealing with 'severe' rotator cuff inflammation

Koda Glover told reporters that he hurt his lower back by trying to pitch through "severe inflammation of the rotator cuff," according to Mark Zuckerman of MASN Sports.

Fantasy Impact

Glover has yet to resume throwing and, in light of this news, seems like an extreme long shot to ever get the closer's job back in Washington. If you're struggling for roster spots and don't have room for a DL stash, you can feel free to drop Glover.

Koda Glover placed on 10-day DL with lower back stiffness

The Nationals placed Koda Glover on the 10-day disabled list with lower back stiffness on Sunday. The team activated Joe Blanton from the 10-day DL to take Glover's spot on the roster.

Fantasy Impact

Glover blew the save on Saturday, and then reported that he had experienced back stiffness but had tried to pitch through it. That's an obvious mistake by the youngster, who likely made the injury worse than it was, but his frustration was understandable, given his injured season. It's unclear who the Nationals will turn to now, though Matt Albers may be the best bet. The injury may hasten the team's rush to add a closer through trade.

Koda Glover blows second save in one week; dealing with back pain

Koda Glover blew his second save of the week, allowing two runs to score against the Texas Rangers in a game the Nationals ultimately lost. Koda Glover reportedly hid a back issue from his manager and teammates and it is unclear whether or not he will need to spend any time on the DL.

Fantasy Impact

Glover has struggled since being named the closer for the National, especially of late. The back injury was not at play in the blowup against the Athletics. Nothing about Glover's velocity seemed different against Texas, and that loss spiked his ERA to 5.12. He does not boast elite swing and miss stuff as is, but the control has been impeccable for Glover in 2017. The Nationals bullpen has been a disaster this season and regardless of Gover's injury status, it is likely they bring in outside help during the season via trade. The players they target could shift roles upon their rival making it hard to project the job security Glover has on the role.
