Twins release Jordan Schafer

Outfielder Jordan Schafer was released by the Twins on Thursday.

Fantasy Impact

Schafer began the season as the starting center fielder for the Twins, but with the call up of Byron Buxton and the presence of Shane Robinson and Aaron Hicks on the roster, there just isn't a place for Schafer anymore.

Jordan Schafer leaves game with knee injury

Jordan Schafer exited early Wednesday afternoon with a strained right MCL after slipping on the grass while beating out a bunt.

Fantasy Impact

Schafer has been the Twins everyday CF, but has failed to provide much offensive production this season. The timetable on his return is undetermined, but owners in deeper AL-only leagues will miss his everyday at-bats. Shane Robinson is a likely replacement for Schafer in center unless the Twins decide to bring someone up from Triple-A.

Speedy Jordan Schafer still in CF battle

In Saturday's Cactus League game vs Rays, Jordan Schafer led off, went 1-for-4 and scored a run.

Fantasy Impact

With 103 career stolen bases, Jordan Schafer is a sneaky pick in roto-leagues. He will likely serve as 4th outfielder but look for his value to increase if he does beat out Aaron Hicks & Eddie Rosario for the starting CF job.

Twins and Jordan Schafer agree on one year deal

The Minnesota Twins and outfielder Jordan Schafer agreed to a 1 year/$1.55 million contract to avoid arbitration. Schafer is competing with Aaron Hicks for the center field starting spot. The only player left for the Twins to sign is pitcher Brian Duensing.

Fantasy Impact

Schafer was traded to the Twins during the Trade Deadline last season and finished off strong with a .285 batting average and 15 stolen bases over 130 at-bats. Fantasy owners should keep eyes on Schafer during Spring Training to see if he wins the starting position.
