10 days after his release with the Cardnials, Jhonny Peralta has found work with the Red Sox's minor league affiliate. He's expected to report on Monday, and will play third base.
Fantasy Impact
The Red Sox have had a revolving door at third base all season, so don't be surprised if Peralta gets called up shortly. Pablo Sandoval's poor play and health have worn out his welcome in Boston.
Jhonny Peralta was only hitting .204 with no RBIs or HRs this season.
Fantasy Impact
Peralta has seen very limited action this season due to injuries but should still draw interest from several teams.
Jhonny Peralta joined AAA Memphis as he continues to recover from an upper respiratory illness.
Fantasy Impact
Peralta recently finished up a three-day stint at Class A Palm Beach in which he went 2-for-8. It is unclear if he will immediately take over starting responsibilities at third base upon his return. Jedd Gyorko has been filling in for Peralta during his absence and has been tearing the cover off the ball, most recently hitting his seventh HR of the season against the Cubs on Saturday. That being said, the Cardinals are not paying Peralta $12.5 million per year to ride the bench. If he can prove that he is healthy and provide a fair amount of offense, he will likely take over starting responsibilities at third base base again. However, expect to see Gyorko continue to receive starts if Peralta falters.
The Cardinals have placed Jhonny Peralta on the 10-day DL with a respiratory illness. LHP Tyler Lyons has taken Peralta's place on the roster.
Fantasy Impact
Peralta is off to an awful start this season, with just a .120/.185/.120 slash line. Jedd Gyorko will likely get the bulk of the playing time at third base, with Kolten Wong playing second most days.
Jhonny Peralta started at third base on Opening Day Sunday evening against the Cubs and went 1-for-4 with three strikeouts.
Fantasy Impact
Peralta was replaced at third base by Matt Carpenter for defensive purposes late in the game Sunday evening. This should be a consistent theme as Peralta is in the lineup more for his bat than his glove. He is expected to split starting duties with Jedd Gyorko, although Gyorko was already in the lineup at second base. Peralta should not be in your lineup in season-long leagues and is a desperate play in DFS.
