The Reds released catcher Austin Romine on Saturday.

Romine was brought in as a non-roster invitee and struggled through nine games in Spring Training. The veteran catcher could get a deal with another team as a backup or as a depth piece in the Minors.

The HR was Romine's third of the season in 100 plate appearances. As he's batting .188 and is splitting the Reds' catching duties, Romine is not a very good option for fantasy baseball.

Romine had some decent seasons earlier in his career but has done little for the three teams he's been with this season. He's currently splitting starts with Michael Papierski and is not someone of interest for fantasy baseball.

Romine spent most of the 2021 season battling injuries with the Chicago Cubs, where he played in 28 games hitting .217 in that span. The veteran is a well-regarded defensive backstop, but is just a lifetime .238 hitter. Fantasy owners should look elsewhere when filling their catcher position, even in two-catcher leagues.
