The Tampa Bay Rays have traded pitcher Tyler Glasnow to the Los Angeles Dodgers in a blockbuster deal. (Source: Jeff Passan)
Fantasy Impact: Outfielder Manuel Margot joins the right-hander in heading to the Dodgers while the Rays acquire right-hander Ryan Pepiot and outfield prospect Jonny Deluca. It was only a matter of time before Glasnow was dealt as he is owned $25 million for the 2024 season and the frugal Rays were looking to acquire value for a pitcher with a significant injury history. Glasnow tossed a career-high 120 innings in the 2023 season while working to a 3.53 ERA across 21 starts. While excellent when healthy, he has made just 60 starts since the 2019 season.

Shohei Ohtani posted on Instagram that he is signing with the Los Angeles Dodgers, and MLB insider Jeff Passan reports the deal is for 10 years, $700 million. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Ohtani had perhaps the most unique free agency of any player in MLB history: it was shrouded in mystery due to his camp's strict guidelines for secrecy from MLB teams, and Ohtani is one of the best pitchers AND one of the best hitters on the planet but won't be able to pitch in 2024 as he recovers from Tommy John surgery. His $700 million contract shatters the MLB record and will almost certainly come with heavily deferred amounts, but that doesn't matter to fantasy managers. With the Dodgers, Ohtani will be on what should be a competitive team for much of the next decade while hitting in a hitter-friendly ballpark. He was already an elite (for lack of a better term) fantasy contributor on bad Angels teams for the last several years, and his value only goes up now that he'll play for a competitor with a good lineup around him.

Eduardo Rodriguez and the Arizona Diamondbacks are in agreement on a four-year, $80 million contract. With vesting options, it could become a five-year, $99-million deal. (Source: Jeff Passan)
Fantasy Impact: Rodriguez is coming off a great year where he pitched 152 2/3 innings, struck out 143 batters, and had a 3.30 ERA and 1.15 WHIP. The 30-year-old has a career K% of 23.75 and figures to slot in as Arizona's SP2 behind Zac Gallen. Fantasy managers should note that his xERA last season was 4.04, which would make him more of an SP3/4 on fantasy rosters. However, he is currently going in the 17th round in 12-team NFBC drafts, so the investment isn't outrageous.
Aaron Nola and the Phillies have reached a tentative agreement on a seven-year contract. It is expected to be in the $170-$175 million range. (Source: Bob Nightengale on X)
Fantasy Impact: Nola is undergoing a physical Sunday, but all signs point to the longest-tenured member of the Phillies returning. He has been vital to their back-to-back NLCS appearances and will continue to provide stability at the top of their rotation. Since 2015, he has a 3.72 ERA and a 10 K/9 in over 1400 innings.
New York Yankees rookie Jasson Dominguez is set to undergo Tommy John surgery on Sept. 20. (Source: MLB.com)
Fantasy Impact: Yankees skipper Aaron Boone said the 20-year-old is looking at 9-10 month recovery, a standard timeline for a position player while the club hopes he will be able to swing a bat prior to spring training. The club's top prospect was as advertised after his big-league promotion, hitting four homers alongside a .980 OPS across 33 trips to the plate.
Miami Marlins pitcher Sandy Alcantara has been placed on the 15-day injured list with a right forearm flexor strain. (Source: Jordan McPherson on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: This is potentially a devastating development for a Marlins team that enters play Wednesday just a half game back of the final Wild Card spot in the National League. The 2022 NL Cy Young winner tossed a 2.28 ERA last season but regressed to a 4.14 mark across 28 starts this season, including eight innings of two-run ball his last time out. Fantasy managers should prepare for the event Alcantara is shut down for the season while dynasty managers would be adversely affected in the scenario that the right-hander will require surgery.
Major League Baseball has placed Rays shortstop Wander Franco on administrative leave as he remains under investigation for alleged relationships with minors. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Franco is placed on administrative leave after spending time on the restricted list over the last week. He can remain on administrative leave for seven days while being paid and accruing service time before the league has to decide either to remove him from the leave for extend it, with MLBPA permission. Fantasy managers likely shouldn't expect Franco back in their lineup anytime soon.
Reliever Paul Sewald has been traded by the Seattle Mariners to the Arizona Diamondbacks in exchange for Josh Rojas, Dominic Carzone, and Ryan Bliss. (Source: Jeff Passan on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Sewald, 33, has enjoyed a nice season as the Mariners' closer, turning in a 2.93 ERA along with a healthy 35.5% K% across 45 appearances, locking down 21 saves in the process. He should continue to see a good chunk of save opportunities in Arizona, so fantasy managers shouldn't cut bait quite yet.
The Mets have agreed to a deal to trade Max Scherzer to the Rangers, pending Scherzer’s approval. (Source: Ken Rosenthal on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Scherzer has been informed of the trade and would have to approve the move as he has a full no trade clause. The 38-year-old has a 4.01 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, and a 10.11 K/9 ratio in 19 starts this season. Scherzer would provide the Rangers will a top of the line starter for the stretch run and a veteran with 27 games of postseason experience.
Texas Rangers catcher Jonah Heim will attempt to rest his injured wrist and try and avoid in-season surgery in the process. (Source: Evan Grant on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Heim injured his wrist swinging through a pitch on Wednesday and will take two-to-three weeks to rest the injury in an attempt to avoid in-season surgery. However, if the wrist does not respond, the All-Star's season will be over. It would be a major blow for a contending Rangers team as Heim is hitting .280 with 14 homers and an .816 OPS on the season while providing elite defense behind the plate. His 3.5 fWAR leads all big-league catchers not named Sean Murphy.
The Oakland A's are set to promote top prospect Tyler Soderstrom prior to Friday's series opener versus the Twins. (Source: Martín Gallegos on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: The 21-year-old catcher was the A's first-round pick in the 2020 MLB Draft and will get a chance to make good on that billing in the season's second half. He has displayed plenty of power in the minors, hitting 61 home runs, 56 doubles, eight triples, and an .858 OPS across 260 minor-league contests. He and Shea Langeliers should split time behind the plate while Soderstrom can also play first base, offering some defensive versatility in the process.

German was absolutely untouchable on Wednesday, as he threw a no-hitter over nine innings, allowing no hits, no walks, and no earned runs while striking out nine batters to lead the Yankees to an 11-0 victory over the Athletics.
Fantasy Impact: This outstanding performance lowered German's season ERA to 4.54 and improved his record to 6-5 on the year.
The Cleveland Guardians are promoting top prospect Gavin Williams for his MLB debut Wednesday versus the A's. (Source: MLB Pipeline on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Williams, MLB Pipeline's No. 16 overall prospect, has tossed a 2.39 ERA across 12 starts between Double-A and Triple-A this season. He also punched out 33.3% of the hitters he faced in nine Triple-A starts while he gets a fantastic matchup against an A's team that ranks dead last with a .288 wOBA against right-handed pitching this season.
The Mets reinstated 1B Pete Alonso from the IL, and he will be active for today's game against the Cardinals. (Source: Anthony DiComo on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Alonso has not played since June 7 due to a wrist injury. While his original timeline said 3 to 4 weeks, he apparently only needed 11 days. Mark Vientos was optioned to Triple-A in a corresponding move.

Royals first baseman/designated hitter Vinnie Pasquantino will undergo season-ending surgery to repair a torn labrum in his right shoulder. (Source: Anne Rogers on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Pasquantino was placed on the injured list on Saturday but will now miss the remainder of the 2023 campaign with a torn labrum. Although the Royals aren't contending, it's a major blow considering the 25-year-old was enjoying a solid season with nine homers, a .766 OPS, and a .350 xwOBA across 61 appearances. He should be ready in time for spring training next March.

Astros slugger Yordan Alvarez could be at least three weeks away from any sort of baseball activities. (Source: Chandler Rome on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Alvarez hit the shelf in the first week of July with an oblique injury and it sounds as if he may not even be back before the All-Star break next month. Obviously, it's a significant blow for an Astros offense that is tied for 19th alongside the Washington Nationals with a .313 wOBA on the season while Alvarez was hitting .277 with 17 home runs and a monstrous .977 OPS across 57 appearances on the campaign.
Giants outfielder Mitch Haniger has suffered a right forearm fracture after being hit by a pitch Tuesday. (Source: Alex Pavlovic on Twitter)
Fantasy Impact: Haniger left the game after being hit in the arm by a pitch in Tuesday's game against the Cardinals and will miss considerable time moving forward. It's yet another setback for the oft-injured veteran who played in just 57 games last season and missed the 60-game 2020 season altogether. Haniger is hitting .230 with four homers and a .653 OPS through 148 at-bats this season.
