Jacoby Brissett named starting QB for Patriots
The Patriots have officially named Jacoby Brissett as their starting quarterback.
Fantasy Impact
Brissett was the favorite to open the season as the starter for New England, but Drake Maye made the decision difficult with his play during the preseason. Fantasy managers should be aware there is a possibility that he has a short leash and Maye enters in after a few weeks. The 31-year-old will have to work behind a weaker offensive line and with a young group of wide receivers in a rebuilt offense for the 2024 season.

Brandon Aiyuk absent at start of practice Wednesday
San Francisco 49ers WR Brandon Aiyuk was not seen at the start of practice on Wednesday, according to ESPN NFL reporter Nick Wagoner, despite the team’s expression that they hoped he would return.
Fantasy Impact
Head coach Kyle Shanahan expressed the sentiment that he was hopeful Aiyuk would return to practice Wednesday, but it seems as though patience is running thin in San Francisco. Aiyuk is threatening to miss game time at this point, and Shanahan stated that the team is preparing for the possibility of playing Week 1 without him and Trent Williams. General Manager John Lynch also expressed frustration for the parties’ communication. This situation may continue to get messier before it gets better, but a future with Aiyuk in S.F. seems more and more unlikely.

Rashee Rice not expected to be placed on commissioner’s exempt list
The NFL is not expected to put Rashee Rice on the commissioner’s exempt list.
Fantasy Impact
The NFL is expected to make a decision about a possible suspension of Rice once the legal process plays out. It appears more likely that a potential suspension for Rice could be pushed to next season.
