Week 6 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire Rankings

Waiver Wire Rankings powered by FantasyProsECR ™ – Expert Consensus Rankings

Q1. Who is your top waiver wire option of the week, and why?

I’d love to add Kadarius Toney but with Clyde Edwards-Helaire leaving Sunday night’s game with a knee injury and set to miss a few weeks, Darrel Williams has to be the top pickup. Williams was already getting his fair share of the goal-line work and starting to eat into Edwards-Helaire’s snap count, but with Edwards-Helaire set to miss time, Williams becomes an immediate RB2. Jerick McKinnon would factor into the passing downs and Williams has never received a big workload in his career, but he’s obviously earned the trust of the coaching staff. So his upside is enormous and he’s the priority pickup.

With Clyde Edwards-Helaire‘s set to miss a few weeks with a knee injury, Darrel Williams becomes a must-add player across all formats. Dan Harris and I hammered this home all off-season that Williams needed to be rostered in every league already due to the upside that he would have if something were to happen to CEH. However, he is only rostered in 12% of leagues and it’s going to be a mad scramble to scoop him up this week. The severity of CEH’s injury will determine the amount of FAB you should spend, but even if CEH is only going to miss one week, he deserves to be rostered everywhere anyway.
– Kyle Yates (@KyleYNFL)

Kadarius Toney is the lone weapon remaining in the Giants defense after an absolutely devastating Week 5 in Dallas. And what a weapon he is! Versatile and explosive, Toney offers the Giants special upside going forward. The waiver wire isn’t just for filling roster gaps, it’s for potentially winning leagues. Toney is the first player I see having that “league-winning upside.” Therefore, I recommend being aggressive on the open market.
– Joe Pisapia (@JoePisapia17)

Even with some potentially valuable RBs available on waivers, Giants WR Kadarius Toney is unquestionably the top waive wire option this week. Toney is a special athlete, and his performances in his last two games make it abundantly clear he’s ticketed for stardom. We have to abandon our priors with Toney, who was dismissed by a lot of prospect hounds because he didn’t leave college after his junior season and because he only had one season of noteworthy offensive production at Florida. We also have to admit that Dave Gettleman aced the first round of this year’s draft — a difficult thing to reckon with. Toney is dealing a foot injury of unknown severity, but Giants head coach Joe Judge said Monday it doesn’t appear to be a significant injury. Bid aggressively on Toney but keep an eye out for updates before your waiver claims are due.

Q2. Which high-end waiver wire option for Week 6 was the most difficult to rank?

Samaje Perine. Perine played well and dominated the snaps on Sunday despite Joe Mixon being active and scoring a touchdown. Mixon actually looked fairly strong on several touches but Perine was similarly productive. If he works his way into a timeshare, or if Mixon has any setbacks, that Perine is a must-roster and potential must-start player. But it’s equally possible that Perine remains nothing but an insurance policy back with little standalone value.

– Dan Harris (@danharris80)

Mecole Hardman was a difficult player for me to rank this week. Tyreek Hill is currently dealing with an unspecified knee injury, so we don’t know if he’s going to miss time. However, even if he does, there’s no guarantee that Hardman is going to step up and produce like a top-24 WR in his absence. Hardman should be added this week, but I couldn’t put him as my top WR add of the week just because we don’t know what his production is going to be without Hill in the lineup taking away attention.
– Kyle Yates (@KyleYNFL)

Khalil Herbert was given the rock quite a bit in the second half versus the Raiders Sunday. The trouble with Herbert is we don’t know if that’s a one-off, if he’s in a timeshare potentially with Damien Williams going forward and what happens to him in a few weeks when David Montogmery returns. With so many variables, it’s tough to figure out just how valuable he is in fantasy when it comes to investment.
– Joe Pisapia (@JoePisapia17)

It’s hard to put a value on Bears RB Khalil Herbert. He split snaps almost evenly in the Bears’ first game without David Montgomery, but Williams played more early and Herbert gained momentum late. Is Williams 1a and Herbert 1b, or are they co-equals? Or might Herbert actually be the more valuable piece? The Bears also have some difficult defensive matchups on the horizon, including Tampa Bay, San Francisco and Pittsburgh. And will Herbert still be rosterable after Montgomery comes back? Herbert is intriguing to be sure, but triangulating his value isn’t easy.

Q3. For managers renting a D/ST in Week 6, what readily available option (under 40%) should they target?

The Bengals have had a surprisingly strong defense thus far, and they get an excellent matchup against the Lions. Although Cincinnati has just three sacks combined in the past two games, the Lions, with their decimated offensive line, have allowed eight over that same span. There should be sacks and turnovers available for the Bengals, and there’s every reason to add them as a one-week streamer.

– Dan Harris (@danharris80)

The Cincinnati Bengals didn’t necessarily shut down Aaron Rodgers and the Packers in week five, but they weren’t expected to be dominant in that matchup. However, they now get to take on Jared Goff and the Detroit Lions offense and that is a matchup that you’re going to want to target streaming the Bengals in.
– Kyle Yates (@KyleYNFL)

I’ve been talking about the Bengals’ defense for weeks now, and this week they held the Packers to 22 points in regulation. They get the Lions in Detroit and should have a chance to capitalize on the typical Jared Goff mistakes.
– Joe Pisapia (@JoePisapia17)

The unexpectedly fine showing by Texans QB Davis Mills in Week 5 notwithstanding, the Houston offense is one to target with streaming defenses, and the Colts get to face the Texans at home in Week 6. Care to wager that Mills has two terrific games in a row? Me neither.

Notable Week 6 Waiver Wire FAB Recommendations (in %)

__________

Q4. Which Week 6 waiver wire option carries the biggest risk of being a waste of FAB dollars?

I don't think he is, but Kadarius Toney could be a waste of an investment. We have yet to see him produce with Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton healthy, and we just have no idea what the Giants offense looks like when all of Shepard, Slayton, Toney, Kenny Golladay, Evan Engram, and Saquon Barkley are healthy. Toney will and should cost a ton, but there's at least a plausible path where he doesn't return value.

- Dan Harris (@danharris80)

People are going to go chasing after Kadarius Toney and his ridiculous performance from week five, but there's some risk involved. Toney is going to most likely be playing with Mike Glennon at QB this next week, which is a massive downgrade, and there's also the possibility that Sterling Shepard and Darius Slayton return to the lineup. We don't exactly know what Toney's role is going to be with all of the receiving options back and healthy. We should go after Toney this week and pick him up, but we can't allow ourselves to think that he's a locked-in top-30 WR moving forward.
- Kyle Yates (@KyleYNFL)

Samaje Perine did have an impact this week with the Bengals offense, however, Joe Mixon was healthy enough to play. Perine is still more of an insurance policy than a fantasy starter. However, that could change dramatically at any moment given Joe Mixon's injury history and current health. I would still want him on my bench, especially if I rostered Joe Mixon.
- Joe Pisapia (@JoePisapia17)

Devontae Booker is in line to be the Giants' lead back while Saquon Barkley is out, but how long will Barkley be out? Will the Giants sign another RB? Would you trust Booker in your lineup this week with a tough matchup against the Rams? Running backs who are in line for double-digit touches are usually coveted assets, especially with the bye weeks starting to kick, in, but Booker has the potential to be a waste of FAB dollars.
