We are now less than one week away from the NFL Draft. The latest on the Patriots is that they're open to trading down, but they also like the quarterbacks they could select with the No. 3 pick. It is currently a toss-up based on the betting odds as to who the Commanders select No. 2 overall between Drake Maye and Jayden Daniels with Maye recently picking up more steam. It is possible who Washington selects will impact what the Patriots decide to do as they are on the clock.

New England Patriots head coach Jerod Mayo said the team views quarterback as the "priority right now" in the 2024 NFL Draft but is not "dead set" on drafting one in this year's draft.

Mayo said that to draft a QB at No. 3, you have to "really be in love with the guy." It's impossible to know right now how the top QBs in the NFL Draft (Caleb Williams, Drake Maye, Jayden Daniels) stack up for the Pats, but it's possible that if their guy doesn't fall to No. 3, a pivot to Marvin Harrison Jr. or even a trade down could be possible. Mayo even said QB Jacoby Brissett could "absolutely be" the Patriots' starter in 2024

Mayo has spent the last five seasons as the team’s linebackers coach. Mayo agreed to a new contract last offseason that established him as the successor to Bill Belichick, which allowed the Patriots to forgo the usual head coach hiring process. Mayo will be officially introduced next week.

Belichick is just 15 wins shy of breaking the NFL record of 347 wins as a head coach, so he will likely end up elsewhere prior to the start of the 2024 season. Robert Kraft and Bill Belichick are expected to address the media at noon EST today ahead of the team beginning their search for a new head coach.

The Patriots’ defense allowed 70 passing yards and 185 rushing yards in the loss Sunday. The Patriots’ defense had no answer for Breece Hall, who averaged 4.8 yards per carry. There are question marks surrounding the Patriots’ coaching staff, so it is possible that the defense looks different by the start of the 2024 season.
