Matt Cullen announces retirement

After 21 seasons, Matt Cullen officially announced his retirement from the NHL. He recorded 266 goals, 465 assists for 731 points over 1516 games. He added 132 more games played in the playoffs.

Fantasy Impact

The 42-year-old officially hangs them up after having spent half of his life as a player in the NHL. It's been even longer in the NHL circle when you consider he was drafted by Mighty Ducks of Anaheim back in 1996. He never managed to eclipse the 50-point plateau in the regular season, but he still played a role in three separate Stanley Cup championships during long career.

Culllen collected the puck along the boards and sent a cross ice pass to a well positioned Olli Maatta who beautifully set up Patric Hornqvist cutting through the Caps defense.

Fantasy Impact

Cullen has 5 points in 9 games, a very respectable total for a 40 year old fourth liner.

Matt Cullen with rare multi-point game in Game 2 vs Caps

An evergreen Matt Cullen must be having the time of his life having playoff success and scoring points at age 40. That number certainly didn't show when he blocked a Kevin Shattenkirk shot then hustled and shrugged off the Caps defender and a late defensive effort by T.J. Oshie to score shorthanded and kickstart Pittsburgh's offense. He also racorded an assist on the Jake Guentzel empty-netter.

Fantasy Impact

Cullen has a goal to go with 3 assists in 7 games this postseason.
