Semyon Varlamov allowed five goals on 27 shots faced in the Islanders' 5-1 loss to the Capitals.

Varlamov has struggled in net of late for the Islanders, allowing four or more goals in five of his last nine starts (3-5-1, .888 save percentage) for the club. The veteran backup netminder has been mostly reliable when asked to spell No. 1 goaltender Ilya Sorokin this season, carrying a 2.79 GAA and .910 save percentage in 21 starts (11-8-2) so far this season.
