The Bucs have benched Alterraun Verner and will go with Tim Jennings, who was released by Chicago and then scooped up by the Bucs and reunited with coach Lovie Smith.
Fantasy Impact
This news upgrades DeAndre Hopkins today.
According to Rich Campbell, the Bears have released Tim Jennings. Jennings counts for $6.75M against the Bears' 2015 cap; $1.5M more than if he made the team.
Fantasy Impact
It seemed like the writing was on the wall for Jennings when Tracy Porter started opposite Kyle Fuller in the third preseason game. Jennings constantly found himself letting up plays against the second string. Jennings will land with another team, but his fantasy value has greatly diminished.
Initially reported by TMZ Sports, Bears' CB Tim Jennings was charged with reckless driving, 12 months of probation on Thursday. However, he avoids jail time. Jennings was absent from camp Thursday as head coach John Fox called "personal reasons."
Fantasy Impact
Fox went on to say that Jennings is expected to arrive at camp on Friday and take part in practice. The Bears hold their first padded practice on Saturday, so having Jennings back in the mix is pretty big. Don't forget Jennings was arrested back in January for a DUI, speeding and reckless driving. He needs to get back to focusing on football before he loses his job with the new regime.
Bears cornerback Tim Jennings was arrested Wednesday by Gwinnett County police in Georgia for speeding, DUI and reckless driving. Jennings was released on $2,711 bond a few hours later. The 2012 Pro Bowler is coming off a down statistical year. Jennings had 50 tackles and zero interceptions in 16 games. He was second in the NFL to Richard Sherman with 13 interceptions from 2012-13.
Fantasy Impact
Jennings just finished his first year of a four year, $22M extension signed one year ago. As it is his first offense, if convicted, Jennings most likely will not face a suspension from the NFL. Due to his contract and the Bears lack of talent in the secondary, it is unlikely Jennings would be released. But with a new general manager and head coach coming in, anything is possible.
Tim Jennings was among several players who sat out of practice on Wednesday. Jennings has a knee injury, however the severity is relatively unknown.
Fantasy Impact
If you have Tim Jennings playing as a DB in your lineup, I suggest you look at other options. Even if Jennings was healthy for Sunday's game he does not deserve an IDP roster spot. Look to other players like T.J. McDonald, Bradley Fletcher, Parish Cox, or Ron Parker as free agents.
