Week 16 Outlook
Availability
Backing up Tevin Coleman the Falcons entrusted Terron Ward with seven carries, which he converted into 35 rushing yards (5.0 avg). On his fourth carry of the night, in the early fourth quarter, Ward fumbled and lost the ball in the Buccaneers red zone as the Falcons were looking to extend their 27-20 lead. He also caught one pass for a three yards loss.
Fantasy Impact
Terron Ward continues to be nothing more than a change of pace back for Tevin Coleman and the Falcons offense in the absence of star running back Devonta Freeman. There is little reason to be rostering Terron Ward, even if you think Freeman will miss a couple more weeks.
With Devonta Freeman recovering from the effects of a concussion Terron Ward took a back seat to the more talented Tevin Coleman on Monday night in Seattle. Ward carried the ball six times for 31 yards, his longest being an impressive 17 yard scamper in which he almost reached the end zone. He also caught one pass out of the backfield for 11 yards.
Fantasy Impact
The fantasy relevance of Terron Ward is completely tied to the health of Devonta Freeman. On this short week don't be surprised if Freeman misses another game to recover. Nevertheless, Ward doesn't seem to be in line for significant touches against a middle of the road Buccaneers run defense and thus should not be in your starting lineup.
In the first quarter starting running back Devonta Freeman was forced out of the game with a concussion, paving the way for Terron Ward to see more snaps. As a result, Ward carried the ball nine times for 23 yards (2.6 avg) on Sunday afternoon. His longest run was 17 yards, so he only gained six yards on his eight other attempts.
Fantasy Impact
It is worth noting that Devonta Freeman took a while to recover from a concussion in August. That being said, aside from fantasy owners banking on a multi-week absence for Freeman there doesn't seem to be much reason to add Terron Ward. Tevin Coleman should see the strong majority of carries, and also has the ball-skills to stay on the field on third down.
Terron Ward received 10 carries against the Cardinals on Saturday night, but only managed to amass 28 yards (2.8 avg) on the ground. However, he did catch four passes for 24 yards (6.0 avg).
Fantasy Impact
Having outplayed rookie running back Brian Hill in the preseason, and now with Hill's ankle injury causing him to miss the final preseason game, the door is wide open for Ward to win the third spot in the Falcons backfield. Nevertheless, Ward is not worth a roster spot, save for extremely deep leagues.
Terron Ward led the Falcons in rushing attempts for the second consecutive preseason game, carrying the ball nine times for 37 yards (4.1 avg). With starting running back Devonta Freeman recovering from a concussion, Ward played with the first team offense, scoring on a five-yard plunge early in the first quarter. He also caught one pass for two yards.
Fantasy Impact
It is not outside the realm of possibly were Devonta Freeman to miss playing time during the upcoming season that Ward would be used in a rotation with Tevin Coleman. Still, at this point, Ward isn't worth rostering outside of extremely deep leagues.
