The New York Giants and free agent running back Shaun Draughn agreed to terms on an undisclosed deal Tuesday.

Draughn, who played the last two seasons in San Francisco, signed with the Giants Tuesday. Playing in all 16 games in 2016, he accumulated 196 yards and four touchdowns as a rusher while catching 29 targets for 263 yards and another two scores as a receiver. With Paul Perkins and Shane Vereen already expected to enter 2017 as New York's top two backs on the depth chart, Draughn will likely open the year at the No. 3 spot ahead of Orleans Darkwa.

Draughn wasn't particularly effective in the running game, but no one could argue with 109 all-purpose yards and two touchdowns on 25 touches. Carlos Hyde's status for next season is uncertain, but no one should be counting on Draughn, a 29-year-old running back who has never distinguished himself in the NFL.

Draughn came in when Hyde needed a breather, spelling him for a down. He does have a surprising four touchdowns on the season, but is not worth owning as long as Hyde is healthy.

Outside of Carlos Hyde, none of the 49ers backfield can be depended on as it appears they will go with a 3-man committee between Draughn, Mike Davis and DuJuan Harris. Carlos Hyde will likely return after the team's Week 8 bye so Draughn is nothing more than a mediocre backup.
