Availability
Rex Burkhead announced his retirement from the NFL after 10 seasons.
Fantasy Impact
Burkhead posted to Twitter to announce his retirement. His best season came in 2021 when he totaled 613 yards from scrimmage with three touchdowns on the ground. He last played for the Texans two seasons ago.
Rex Burkhead worked out for the Raiders on Tuesday, per Field Yates. The veteran back has familiarity with Josh McDaniels from his time in New England.
Fantasy Impact
Burkhead spent the last two years as a Houston Texan and primarily found himself in a third-down back role. Burkhead excels in pass protection and could be a valuable asset next to Jimmy G, who is not the most mobile QB. While a Burkhead signing may be beneficial for the Raiders' offense as a whole, the player himself is not a fantasy-viable player heading into 2023.
Rex Burkhead caught three of his five targets for 10 yards in a 31-3 loss to Jacksonville.
Fantasy Impact
Burkhead continues to be utilized exclusively in the passing game. With the limited opportunities, Burkhead can be left off rosters heading into Week 18.
Rex Burkhead caught both of his targets for seven yards in a will over the Titans Saturday. Burkhead recovered a Davis Mills’ fumble in the end zone for a touchdown.
Fantasy Impact
Burkhead and Dare Ogunbowale continue to work in a backup role to Royce Freeman. Fantasy managers should leave Burkhead out of their lineups in Week 17.
Rex Burkhead caught two of his four targets for 17 yards in a 30-24 loss to the Chiefs Sunday.
Fantasy Impact
Even without the services of Dameon Pierce, the Texans did not have Burkhead log a rushing attempt in the loss to the Chiefs. Fantasy managers should feel comfortable leaving Burkhead on the waiver wire. The Texans will take on the Titans in Week 16.
