Former Tennessee Titans and Minnesota Vikings S Michael Griffin signs a one-year deal with the Panthers. The Panthers are looking for Griffin to make an immediate impact and play for a team struggling with their safeties.
Fantasy Impact
S Kurt Coleman rejuvenated his career in Carolina so maybe Griffin can do the same. Carolina DST is still a top 10 weekly play.
The Minnesota Vikings and S Michael Griffin have come to terms on a deal according to NFL Network's Ian Rapoport.
Fantasy Impact
Michael Griffin played with the Titans in 2015 and was released by the organization earlier in the offseason. The veteran safety was one of the highlights of a beatable Titans' secondary and finished the year with 101 total tackles, one sack, one interception and three passes defended. Griffin could have a big season under HC Mike Zimmer, who is a defensive guru on the sideline. Zimmer helped to re-ignite the careers of veterans Adam Jones and Terrence Newman, who both played for Zimmer in Cincinnati.
Tennesee Titans FS Michael Griffin recorded 10 tackles (9 solo) in the Week 14 loss to the New York Giants. His total tied him with fellow Titan CB Jason McCourty for the game high in that category.
Fantasy Impact
Griffin currently leads all DBs in tackles this season with 96 (74 solo). His production to this point combined with favorable matchups in the coming weeks make him a must start IDP option through the remainder of the fantasy playoffs.
John Glennon of The Tennessean reports that Titans Safety Michael Griffin is approaching the franchise record for tackles at his position. Heading into week 13, he needed only 8 to surpass current franchise leader Blaine Bishop.
Fantasy Impact
Griffin will have to wait at least one more week to reach that benchmark, as he recorded only 4 tackles (2 solo) in week 13, his fewest since week 6. Despite the off week, he continues to be a reliable DB1 in IDP leagues.
After leaving the game for about 5 minutes at the end of the 2nd quarter and being considered questionable to return, Michael Griffin returned to the game and, in total, recorded 11 tackles on the day.
Fantasy Impact
The injury was worrying at first; Griffin went down hard and in very visible pain. It was reported later that he had separated his shoulder. Griffin stepped up well in Tennessee's fairly depleted secondary, though it was nowhere near enough to bring the team to victory.
