The Miami Dolphins are releasing pass rusher Mario Williams, ESPN's Adam Caplan reports.
Fantasy Impact
After one season in Miami, the Dolphins are moving on from Williams. Playing in 13 games last season, Williams accumulated 13 total tackles, 1.5 sacks and one pass deflection. Despite his age (32), and coming off of two disappointing seasons, he should still garner moderate attention on the free agent market from teams desperate for help at pass rusher. Perhaps the Cowboys, who are in dire need at the position, will pursue Williams.
Mario Williams had two tackles, both for losses and one quarterback hurry in Sunday's 28-25 win over the Bills. He played at his normal position at defensive end, but he also spent some time lined up at defensive tackle next to Ndamukong Suh.
Fantasy Impact
The Dolphins defense played much better than they have over the course of this season. This is the second week Williams has come off the bench.
Mario Williams signed a two-year, $17 million contract to come to the Dolphins. He replaced Olivier Vernon who left for his own lump of free agent cash. The move hasn't been an upgrade for the Dolphins thus far, and there's concern that this season may be a repeat of his underwhelming 2015 season. So far this season, Williams has made only seven tackles (two for loss), three quarterback hits and one sack. He was brought in to do much more.
Fantasy Impact
Williams has played 211 snaps which is the most of any Dolphins defensive lineman besides Ndamukong Suh. He should be, and remain a free agent in your league until things change.
Mario Williams was evaluated for a concussion after he left Sunday's game against the Seahawks in the second half. He is now in the concussion protocol. “He’s in the protocol,†coach Adam Gase said of Williams on Monday afternoon. “I have no clue after that. It’s all off us. They have a system in place and they handle it. There’s no timetable.â€
Fantasy Impact
The Miami defensive line showed up on Saturday. Williams played a big part in the pressure put on Russell Wilson.
Mario Williams left Sunday's tilt versus the Seahawks for concussion evaluation in the second half. He had two combined tackles and his first sack as a Dolphin up to that point.
Fantasy Impact
Williams and the Dolphins' front four harassed Russell Wilson all day and sacked him three times. The defensive unit only allowed 112 yards rushing on 32 carries.
