John Bates
TE - Washington Commanders
Availability
John Bates was back at practice on Friday.
Fantasy Impact
Bates had been sidelined earlier in the week due to an illness. He should be good to go for Sunday's game against the Eagles.
John Bates caught both of his two targets for just 12 yards in the Commanders' 37-3 loss to the Bills.
Fantasy Impact
Bates struggled to get involved on Sunday, being targeted only twice on the course of the afternoon. Washington's offense as a whole didn't play well, so it wasn't exactly a great situation for him to play in. Moving forward, he likely won't get enough work to be more than a fringe streaming option week-to-week.
John Bates, the 25-year-old tight end for the Washington Commanders, put up a solid performance in Week 2 against the Denver Broncos, despite not finding the endzone.
Fantasy Impact
Bates was targeted five times, hauling in three receptions for 46 yards. His longest reception, a 35-yarder late in the second quarter, showcased his ability to stretch the field. While he didn't manage to score, his contribution was instrumental in the Commanders' narrow 35-33 victory. Bates's performance places him at TE20 for the week and TE32 for the season, showing a steady presence in the Commanders' passing game. Looking ahead to Week 3, Bates and the Commanders will face off against the Buffalo Bills, where he'll look to continue his upward trajectory, especially if Logan Thomas (concussion) misses time.
John Bates caught three of his four targets Sunday for 24 yards and a touchdown.
Fantasy Impact
Bates caught his first touchdown of the season and pretty much managed to outplay Logan Thomas in every way. Bates was a fourth-round pick of the Commanders in 2021 and has mainly played second fiddle to Logan Thomas. Bates will need to continue to see more work to be on fantasy manager's radars.
John Bates (hamstring) did not participate in practice Thursday.
Fantasy Impact
Bates has played well as the second tight end for the Commanders, posting 73 yards on nine receptions this season. With John Bates and Logan Thomas trending in the wrong direction, fantasy managers should expect Cole Turner and Armani Rogers to see the bulk of the snaps against Green Bay.
